I'm staying in Kampong Glam this time at a hostel called Sleepy Sam's. It's lovely. It's more like a house than a hostel, it's nicely furnished and very clean and the beds are very comfy. My train got in after 1am yesterday morning and I slept so well when I got here. Kampong Glam is a great area, I tried to find it when I was in Singapore before but couldn't. I'm glad I stayed here this time becuase it's got a really nice feel to it. It's just a few streets and they're lined with palm trees and lovely little boutiques and cafes. The perfect place to end my trip. I fly home tonight (sniff). ... read more

The morning of the day I left Melaka, for Taman Negara, there was a big thunderstorm. The jungle at Taman Negara isn't very accesible and because of the storm I ended up leaving on the afternon bus and having to stay a night in Kuala Lumpur becuase there wasn't a connecting bus to Jerantut until the next morning. From Jerantut you can get a bus straight to Taman Negara or you can get to a jetty at Kuala Tembling and the get a boat across. I wanted to get the boat beacuse it's a scenic three-hour trip and the last one is supposed to go at 2pm so I thought I'd miss it because my bus from Jerantut didn't get in till about 13:15. Lukily, I met an Argentinian man on the way to Jerantut and ... read more

Somebody should have warned me about the bus to Malaysia! I caught the bus from Singapore to Melaka last night and as we were about to cross the border the bus driver stopped the bus and shouted, 'Ok, go', and everyone ran off the bus to join a stampede of people rushing towards the immigration station. So, I grabbed my passport and followed them but I hadn't been given an immigration card and didn't realise I would need one so I was escorted into an office to fill one in. I was worried I would be late back onto the bus and would hold up the queue but I made it back before some of the others and before the bus. I was a bit flustered after all the running about and just as I started ... read more

Aaargh! There's people eveywhere! I went for a walk around Singapore today. First, I walked down to the Asian Civilisations Museum, passing Raffles hotel and the harbour. The museum is really good, there's lots of different galleries for different parts of Asia, I had a look through the ones relating to Singapore and a quick look at the others and then went for a coffee on the harbour to prepare myself for the masses of people I was sure to encounter in Chinatown. I couldn't face walking all the way through Chinatown so I stopped for lunch at one of the first restaurants I came to. It was nice and not too busy inside. After lunch, I walked back to the hostel to rest by the airconditioner for a while! Then I caught a bus to ... read more

I arrived in Singapore last night and I'm staying at The Hangout at Mt. Emily in Lilttle India. It's a nice hostel and most importantly has air conditioning! It's not that hot here, it's just humid. After getting lost a couple of times trying to find the bus stop I jumped in a taxi to get to Singapore Zoo in time for the first show at 13:30. The first show was Taking Back the Rainforest and some of the zoo animals had been trained to put on a performance to promote rainforest conservation, along with staff. At the end I had my photo taken with the staff from the show and a snake! I saw both of the other shows, one was with a sea lion, manatees and penguins and the other with Asian elephants. All ... read more

On Saturday afternoon Anne-Marie, Judith and I went to Aquascene, which is based on the harbourfront and is where lots of fish come up to the shore and you can go and feed them. There were loads of them, I can't remember all the names but we saw some rays of some sort, diamond fish, milkfish, catfish... Then later in the afternoon Anne-Marie and I went to East Point Reserve for sunset. We were hoping to see some wallabies, which we didn't, but the sunset was lovely. On Sunday we set off to look for Myilly Point Heritage Precinct but got lost and ended up in the casino! We just had lunch there and then on the way back to our hostel we found the buildings at Myilly Point, we'd walked past them earlier but hadn't ... read more

Anne-Marie and I went on a tour to Litchfield Park today which included a Jumping Croc Cruise. We did the croc cruise first on the Adelaide River, the staff on the boat dangle maet over the side of the boat on a long stick and the crocodiles come up and jump to catch the food. We saw lots of crocs and some of them jumped really high for the meat, it was amazing. It was a bit strange though and they teased the crocodiles quite a bit, they never fed the crocodile on the first jump so that everyone got a good photo and if they didn't think the crocodile was trying hard enough they'd do everything they could to try to get it to jump higher. Poor things. I did get some great photos though! ... read more

We arrived in Darwin late last night after a thirteen hour bus journey, which sounds like hell but it was actually really nice just to sit in an airconditioned bus for a day after being in Kununurra. Today we went for a walk to explore the city, we walked down to the Survivor's Lookout where there are some nice views over the harbour. Then we went to Parliament House to have a look around. This evening we went to the Mindil Beach night market with Judith, a Dutch girl we met in our room. We bought dinner from the market and went and sat on the beach to watch the sunset. The beach and the market was packed with tourists and locals too. After sunset we had a look around at some of the craft stalls ... read more

We've spent the last couple of days in Kununurra, which is in the eastern part of the Kimberley region. The rest of the Kimberley isn't as accessible without a car and tours are expensive. On Monday morning we started to walk down to the celebrity tree park by the lagoon, where celebrities have planted trees. It's only about a kilometre to the park but it's so hot here we had to stop before we got there and lie under a tree for a while and then go and sit in a cafe for an hour or two because we both felt sick. We finally got to the park in the afternoon and saw Rolf Harris' tree and Princess Anne's, we didn't recognise any of the other names. The lagoon is gorgeous, freshwater crocs live there but ... read more
