Arrived at Krooombit cattle station in time for lunch. Food was delicious had really nice veggie patties and salad. Got given a cowboy hat and neckcheif and changed into my check shirt, so felt like a real cowgirl :D Took a hike up to sunset hill. Was proper exhausting in the heat so all crashed out at the top and then got attacked by ants so went back down. We then did a goatrodeo! I was useless with the lasso but we had to get into groups on 3, and Anwen had the job of trying to catch a goat, we had a minute to try after which we just had to grab a goat by the horns, Charlotte straddled it and I grabbed the poker and pretending to brand it. Each group of 3 had ... read more

Hi everyone! Sorry it has taken me such a long time to update you, I've been on a coach tour and my schedule has been really full! At the moment I'm in a hostel in Noosa, I managed to get a few minutes to myself before dinner. Yesterday we spent the day at Kroombit Farm, which is a working cattle farm right in the middle of the country. I went horse riding and helped on a 'goat muster' which was pretty awesome. I've also spent three days sailing around the Whitsundays and staying on South Molle island, which was beautiful. My cold has almost completely gone now, just got a little bit of a cough left over but I feel fine. I think I have given it to another girl on the tour though, oops! I'm ... read more

continued......... It was only after dismounting and thanking Tramp that I realised quite how dyhydrated I was (and rather sweaty!), being a Cowgirl is thirsty work. But back at the farm it was time to join the others and learn to rodeo.Yes rodeo! Learning to lasso is hard! There is nothing natural about swinging rope around your head. We praticed on skulls (and each other) until we were rudely interupted by the sound of thunder. I should inform you at this point that in Queensland, in the wet season, when it rains, IT RAINS! Thankfully it stopped at our Goat Rodeo could take place, however, only after it had turned the goat pen into a a swamp! The Goat Rodeo was a timed competation. Three of you entre the pen which is holding about twenty adult ... read more

My time in Australia has largely been filled with beaches, goon and more beaches, however I had the privilage of spending a day at a working cattle station in the outback on the 21st Feb, so I finally have an activity worth blogging about! The trip to the cattle station was included in the Oz Expirence ticket. It was a long drive from the town of 1770, however our fantastic driver guide 'Uncle Buck' managed to make it not just bareable but fun with his games. We crossed the Great Dividing Range, the mountains which seperates the coastal towns (where everybody lives) from the outback (where nobody lives). It was a beautiful and exciting ten minute driving round the mountain's nail biting hair pin bends! Kroombit Cattle station is over thirty minutes from the nearest town, ... read more

Wow what a trip!! I must say the last few days have been awesome!! It started off with a cool chilled out and cheap day in Cool Bananas ($22 a night!) as it was pouring with rain! The next day was also chilled after some drinking (gooning) in the evening. This followed with the essential scooter roo trip combining motorbiking and kangeroo watching!! Bloody amazing considering I have never riden a motorbike before! It started off a bit scary as I was unable to turn right because of issues with my balance (my wii fit age of 36 proves this)!! We got into it and it turned crazy! We had guys just randomly breaking infront of you, followed by overtaking on the left, which when ur biking is alot more frightening than driving! Unfortunately we didnt ... read more

This was a VERY random part of the trip! So we left Airlie Beach at 7am (also known as 'crazy o'clock) to head into the outback for a night. We met our driver for the 2 days (Kino) and got to know the others on the bus...mainly people from Sweeden and a few English (and one crazy Belgian dude). I'm still not entirley sure why this is a stop off on the route down south...it is either to keep the cattle station business going (but with 10,000 acres of land i'm sure money is not that much of an issue), to introduce everyone to a bit of traditional outback Australian life or simply to break up the 600km+ journey to avoid spending about 18 hours straight on a bus! We set off and the further inland ... read more

A few days ago i made the joureny from Agnes Water/Town of 1770, a fair few miles inland, passed the great dividing range into Kroombit cattle Station. We arrived at lunhc time and were greeted with steaks on the BBQ and heaps of salads and bread. After a good chow down, i got my long trousers on a saddled up. I was heading out on a goat muster. As a more experienced rider i was given the boss horse. A lovely chestnut beauty that did what it was told! We headed out into a rocky and hill paddock and started searching for the goats. There were about twenty riders in total and four of us were experiened. The first goat sigthing was in the middle of the paddock so the four of us were sent trotting ... read more

After the slight anticlimax of an afternoon doing washing after seeing the Whitsundays, I went out with some of the passengers and crew from "Whitsunday Magic". We sat by the lagoon in Airlie Beach and a good time was had by all. I didn't stay too late though as I had a big day of travelling ahead of me... We left Airlie Beach around 7am and didn't arrive into Kroombit Cattle Station until the early evening, what a drive! We did manage to play lawn balls and see a few kangeroos on the way though. On arrival we painted our faces and sprayed our hair bright colours purely for the fun of it, it seemed. We sat down to a cooked meal - always welcome, and spent most of the evening trying out the mechanical bull. ... read more

Before we left Airlie beach we managed to catch the last day of the reef festival. This involved some floats going down the road, some fancy dress competitions and some fireworks at night time. The next day we set of for kroombit cattle station, this was an eleven hour journey with a stop of halfway for a quick game of lawn bowls. On the way we saw some wild kangaroos from the bus. When we arrived at kroombit we got to eat some meat that they wouldn't tell us what it was until we had all eaten some. It turned out to be goat and is quite tasty. The bar had a pet cockatoo called boss which was quite cool and entertaining. That night at kroombit we got to practice whip cracking (we hit ourselves a ... read more
