Day 41 - Willowbank Raceway Wow, what a day it’s been at this the 42nd Castrol Edge Winternationals here at Willowbank Raceway, drag racing’s finest. Let’s do the family announcements first of all! Happy Birthday Ray! Sorry we’re not there to share the beer with you but we’ve sunk a few in your name over here! Happy 30TH Birthday to Lisa Rumble! Hope you survive your day without any dramas or surprises that you don't want! Congratulations Aubrey & Alison on your wedding day! Here’s to you both and many happy and adventurous years to come. When we got up at 5.45am it was really cold, damp and very foggy. At 8am when the schedule for the racing was due to start you still couldn’t see the timing lights from the burnout boxes! Undeterred, as you ... read more

Day 40 - Willowbank Raceway 5.45am and we’re up ready for a shower and the day ahead! The amenities block is right next to us but Dar finds a queue even at that time of the morning, they’re a clean bunch! There’s no queue in the ladies but there is a frog in the toilet! I’m told that the secret is to flush twice before you use the loo as frogs in the toilet is quite common! Something to remember! We head off in search of racing, it’s due to start at 8.30am but there’s a solid amount of fog covering the track when we get round there at just gone 7. As we wander in the direction of the top sheds we bump in to none other than Steve Werner, 2 seater dragster driver and ... read more

Day 39 - No standing, please consider those behind you. Willowbank Raceway Gone are the days of sleeping in, no-body sleeps when they’re this excited! No early morning call from the birds, just the glorious thunder from the 530 entrants in the pits! There’s nitro in the air and the dark grey clouds are being swept far away by the lovely white billowing ones! In fairness we could have slept in as they don’t start til 1pm today but to be in the atmosphere you need to be awake and we were! Willowbank is set in a wooded area which gives the place a completely different feel to the tracks back home especially when you’re out in the pits. Each ‘group’ has it’s allotted pit area, the groups climb up from the sportsman classes through to ... read more

Day 38 - Warwick to Willowbank All quiet on the night shift front, both of us slept like logs having picked a pitch far away from the highway! Having power in the caravan gave us the opportunity to charge up the batteries for this, that and the other plus gives us the luxury of heating for what was another chilly night! We were heading off to the race track today to settle into a 4 day meeting starting tomorrow. We headed into Warwick early to get some supplies, usual assortment of kangaroo steak, seafood, pork chops, salad and beer! In Oz the alcohol isn’t sold in the main section of the supermarkets, it’s usually a separate area next to it or you need to seek out a drive through bottle shop. Regardless of which, the beer ... read more

Heading off from Karen and Derek’s early, we needed to get to the bank. I still had problems with my Visa card. The banking system does not quite work the same way in Australia, so getting started has not been easy. We drove back up to Maroochydore to see Belinda who is the Branch Manager; she has been exceptionally helpful in getting things sorted out for us. With that done we headed out to see Nick at Australia Zoo. From our experiences there we felt strongly that we wanted to give them feedback in how to make the Volunteers feel more like part of the team. Unfortunately for us, we felt that some of the zoo keepers did not appreciate that people were giving up their free time to help out and had no respect for ... read more

4 weeks to go until we leave for our latest adventure. This time we are visiting Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt and Jordan, we will be gone for 6 weeks and we can’t wait!!. This holiday has taken longer to plan, because Brianna and Sophie are coming with us, and tour companies don’t believe children less than 12 years of age can behave. So we’ve had to arrange private guides and tours everywhere. Our itinerary is as planned: • Depart Brisbane 6/09/08 at 1300hrs and arrive in Singapore at 1900hrs. (8hrs Flying time) • Depart Singapore 06/09/08 at 2000 and arrive in Abu Dhabi 2330hrs (7hrs flying time plus 6 hrs time difference). • Depart Abu Dhabi 07/09/08 at 0130hrs arrive Dubai at 0300hrs (1 ½ hours on a bus). Note: Long flight + adjusting ... read more

Namaste Ozy and Indian friends and family and of course blog readers around the world Just wanted to touch base and let people know that I was suppose to be in India at this moment, however, some pressing family affairs here in Australia are keeping me here this year. I will however be setting off November/December 2008 again touching down in Ahmedabad to meet with my Indian family who live in the quiet and gorgeous city of Gandhinagar. Feel free to continue checking out my precious memories of India anytime. I will definately add to all of them at the end of this year. Ajvu Tess x0x0... read more

Wow! It's a happenin!! I have my passport back and Indian visa in hand. Each day brings with it another issue or supposed object that is needed to think about in preparation for my trip. Amazingly, I have already accomplished so much. I now have my travel pack and bits and pieces. Pets all in order and carers lined up. I have had the ongoing dilemma whether to vaccinate or not. I have attempted to obtain help and advice from allied health, but not been too succussful. And might I say that's another story. Best left unsaid I suppose!! I have pretty well made my decision on that matter and feel confident in my strength and health. There is no real substitue for Maleria prophylaxis and so I will definately seek such. It is a labyrinth ... read more

While Zoe and Gina had to work today, Bec did too. A day at work for Bec consisted of not much at all! So she took the day off “work” and took is bowling! I’d love to tell you otherwise but Bec wasn’t working at all! What a nice way to ease into the Bachelor of Arts that she was going to be doing up in Toowoomba! You’ve gotta beware of her because she’ll say she’s never thrown a ball down a bowling alley before but she can knock down the odd strike or two! Robbie was hitting some fine form as he won game 1 and game 2, but had a disastrous 3rd game as I won by a tight 99-97 with Bec not too far away in third! Now we wanted to try ... read more

I’d like to tell you about the day I lost my virginity. In fact, it was today. You know, I’ve never been on a plane before! Never ever in my whole life. There was this one time when I was 10, I was on a pretend plane for trainee airhostesses with silly paintings of the land from high in the sky where the windows are supposed to be. Not this time. I nodded to a lady next to me and told her today was my first plane trip ever. “Well I hope you brought your parachute!” I had this really obscene look on my face as members of the NSW cricket team walked past. There is this spot from where I watch planes take off and land sometimes, close to the airport. It’s a really ... read more
