After the Storm
There were some awesome late afternoon storms here, but when the sun set it was an awesome scene! While Zoe and Gina had to work today, Bec did too. A day at work for Bec consisted of not much at all! So she took the day off “work” and took is bowling!
I’d love to tell you otherwise but Bec wasn’t working at all! What a nice way to ease into the Bachelor of Arts that she was going to be doing up in Toowoomba! You’ve gotta beware of her because she’ll say she’s never thrown a ball down a bowling alley before but she can knock down the odd strike or two! Robbie was hitting some fine form as he won game 1 and game 2, but had a disastrous 3rd game as I won by a tight 99-97 with Bec not too far away in third! Now we wanted to try our hand at pool!
The Glades Tavern didn’t have any pool tables but geez it was NIIICE as it was a damn hot day outside and the air con was fab-and you can tell how great a pub is by the toilets-very schmick indeed. It had great dining tables, a dance floor for those party nights and maybe it was a touch small,
but nonetheless sparklin’ gaming room! Bec led us here since she’s an absolute pokie fiend. Last night she turned $3 into $10 into $58 (damn!) and luck’s always on her side as she hits the pokies. But not today as I found a dolphin machine which was paying up big time! $35 later and one ticket away off a bottle of bourbon and we made a move for the Y Bar (which hopefully had a pool table). This was a game of pool that we were supposed to start playing about 2 hours ago, and when we got to the Y Bar the balls were a bit smaller than usual (Insert Queenslander insult here at your own peril!). The lingerie waitresses made up for it though, even if it was quicker for us to walk up to the bar and talk about Tooheys New not being served (horror!). Meanwhile, Bec didn’t know that they’d have scantily clad lasses bringing the boys their bevvies, so as we left, Bec’s opening comment of “hey this pub is cool!” was replaced with a, “maybe there won’t be a next time”…
I had to meet some of the crew from the Brisbane branch
of the OSF tonight! In the late afternoon yesterday walking to get used to the Brisbane weather, I got a really nice suit from Vinnies at West End (where we stayed at last time!) and I had to wear it to see the OSF’s tonight.
The afternoon storms here are absolutely stunning. They’re not the pissy baby ones we’ve been having down in Sydney. The lightning actually strikes earth and the thunder booms out right after the sky is lit up. There is no way I am going to get this $36 outfit ruined by the rain!
After the storm passes, the clouds give way to an impressive sunset. It’s really magnificent and it’s one of the best I have seen in a while, and Josie (Gina’s older sister) spots something that I totally miss by the time I get to see anything! At least now it’s night-things might start to cool down but then again its night time-there will be a party starting soon!
Whoever from the OSF had been telling me that Mt Gravatt was directly between Ippy and Brisbane must have been pulling the wool over my eyes as I had to go into town before I even got to Garden City. They really do look after their buses here with underground stations and dedicated bus ways. Most shopping centres and major shops also had huge bus stations, not just stops along the highway. The bus ride to Garden City was a dream ride-XXXpress all the way, only stopping to drop people off.
I didn’t have any idea I was actually at Garden City till I pulled up at the station. Garden City is a decent sized shopping centre with supermarkets, cinemas etc etc. What I didn’t realise was that I lost my damn photo ID. My new one, made especially for this trip so that I wouldn’t have any fiascos like the one in Canberra last year. I had to lose something important, didn’t I? Not a single clue as to where it was. Well I had to have brought it, as I had not been able to get onto the plane with it. I also had a few drinks at the Y Bar and we played the pokies at the Glades’ Tavern. I can’t believe it is back in Ipswich! It’s back on the bus to the city (not even meeting any OSFers), and back out to Ipswich. I’m dejected and try to go straight to sleep but I’m talking to myself now.
“Fuck you’re an idiot…”
