Sunday morning and another beautiful day here on the island After a lovely leisurely breakfast I headed up to the Stella Maris Chapel a wonderful setting for this interdenominational church Today Reverend Terry Ayling was conducting the non denominational service He was a lovely Australian guy, about my age, (yes young then!) who has the reasponsibility for conducting services here and on Hamilton and Day Dream Islands There were 10 of us at the service today including a couple who had been married at Hayman three years ago in the very Chapel We sang to a DVD and watched a video presentation about other people seeing Jesus in us.....food for thought. It was very informal and we had a chance to chat together afterwards and take in the wonderful views It was rather appropriate that we ... read more

Well I mentioned that today was going to be a bit special and it certainly has been. I woke early with the sun streaming into my room looking out over the still Lagoon at Hayman Island Resort. A delicious buffet type breakfast overlooking the Lagoon in the Azure Restaurant was a perfect setting to begin another exciting day At 8am I met my other two guests for the day, Craig and Melissa (another honeymoon couple from Derby) as we headed over to the Helipad (I am getting rather used to this type of travel!!) for our initial flight to Fantaseas Reefworld on the Great Barrier Reef. Jacko was our pilot and guide for the day and made us very relaxed for the 30minute flight. Such a clear and calm sea as we headed over the Whitsunday ... read more

After our Reef adventure we decided to see a little more of the Australian landscape. We were in northern Queensland (northeast coastal area) and wanted to visit the Atherton Tableland. It is from there (50’s era Atherton Motel, home of the rare 24-hour internet access!) where I posted a blog entry last month. After circling counterclockwise from up north Daintree National Park, Mossman Gorge, down to Antherton, then Yungaburra, and Crater Lake, we decided we really wanted another day out at the Reef. We had planned on a day in Yungaburra, but it really is a very small town that is easily seen in an afternoon, so trucked on back to Cairns (and saw some wild kangaroos en route!) and made another launch at the Reef. This time we decided to go to Green Island, which, ... read more

Took a 6 day diving course with 2 days of theory and pool diving followed by 4 days and 3 nights diving on the Great Barrier reef :) The theory part of the course went too fast and you didn't have time really to read the book and do you homework, but the practical part felt relaxed and felt like you had time to learn everything. For the Open Water course we were 10 people and 6 were swedish and just 2 germans. Was pretty easy and got to see most things in the water like turtles and sharks. During what I thought was the Advanced Open Water course I took a photography speciality and rented a camera for 3 dives, but first dive the camera got foggy and the other dives it was too early ... read more

Well our first officialy tour in awhile, on the boat at 8AM and out to Michaelmas Cay, one of the many parts of the reef. Beautiful day for boating... Got to the island which was is the middle of nowhere and the sand was so white and the water so blue it was amazing, hard to belive desolete places like this do actually exist. Dan went for his first intro dive and loved every minute of it, not much freaking out at all... Kel of course chickened out and chose to snorkel, which didn't happen since we ran out of time. We did get to go on a semi sub and see the reef and the wildlife which was very cool. Pictures will be posted soon!... read more

We left Gulnare Inlet this morning to go to Cid harbour which is in the same island (WhitSunday Island0 but on the opposite side, we went the long way around so we could visit Whitehaven Beach famous around the world for its beautiful and incredible expanse of pure white sand, had a swim and went for a long walk with the boys, the water was cristal clear and 23* great for my first swim of the season. Went through the famous Hook passage , past Hook island which has an underwater observatory , a sunken metal tube that allows you to descend and view from underwater the coral and fish, we will visit it when Ella and Dennis come. All this area is very pretty, and very much visited by chartered yachts. We will spend the ... read more

We arrived in Cairns and booked ourselves into a lovely hostel...really chilled out and had a few days hanging out, shopping and planning our last two weeks in Australia. We arrived in Cairns two weeks early than we planned to be there so we had to go back to the LP and travel agencies and fill our next two weeks with fun - filled things to do. I was looking into doing a day trip on the Great Barrier Reef but David and I talked about it and we had just had such an amazing time on the Whit Sunday cruise, that we really wanted to go back out on a boat again for a few days. We decided on a three day live aboard the boat diving trip and I was so excited. This time, ... read more

I haven't updated you in a while, as my adventures are more local, and were getting as exciting as going out for dinner on my birthday (which actually did turn out to be quite memorable, as the waitress served us someone elses home-made birthday cake, that we ate without asking any questions, birthday candles, singing and all). More recently however, I went out to Lady Elliot Island, which is at the Southern-most tip of the Great Barrier reef, 80km East of Bundaberg for all of those familiar with your Australian Geography. My boss flew our staff out to the Island for an all inclusive day on the reef and it was fabulous! I saw whales, a manta and snorkelled with dolphins, sharks, hundreds of fish, sting rays and even held onto a giant sea turtle for ... read more

August 22, 2007 What a wonderful day. We were a little upset because all of the snorkel tours we wanted to do were all booked so we settled on another one, which turned out to be better. There were not many people on the boat compared to all the other boats in the Marina that looked like hardly any room to move around. We were on a sail boat and the only problem was really not that bad. We were on board with a group of Koreans and therefore everything was pretty much done in Korean before it was done in English. It would have been nice to be able to speak with some other people on board but beside us and a couple other families sitting next to us on the bow, we were it ... read more

This was the moment I had been most looking forward to all trip, and it did not disappoint. I doubt I can even explain in words what an amazing experience this was, but I will do my best to try. Our purpose for the day: Snorkling on the Outer Reef. The boat ride was about 70 minutes, and we got to spend 5 hours on the reef, and visit 3 different reefs. As soon as we boarded the boat, there was an announcement that the crew "strongly recommended" taking some of their complimentary seasickness tablets. Vlad followed the recommendations, but Shilo was too tough (and paid the price... but in her defense, there was only 5 min left in the ride and at least a dozen other soldiers fell before she did). Just a quick side ... read more
