G'day ye lil ripper....we finally left Aussie and have arrived in our first port of call in Asia - Singapore! The flight over was an interesting one in which we spent most of our time being insulted by a drunken Irish hooligan from Belfast! - as per usual, showing the country up! After insulting people at the front of the plane, he was unfortunately sent down to us at the back of the plane. The cabin crew hoped he pipe down with less people to insult at the back of the plane...however it got worse, long story cut short we moved jst to get away from him and 4 hours later touching down in Singapore the local police boarded the plane and escorted the nice young gentleman off the plane to no doubt spend 10 years ... read more

We arrived in Cairns and booked ourselves into a lovely hostel...really chilled out and had a few days hanging out, shopping and planning our last two weeks in Australia. We arrived in Cairns two weeks early than we planned to be there so we had to go back to the LP and travel agencies and fill our next two weeks with fun - filled things to do. I was looking into doing a day trip on the Great Barrier Reef but David and I talked about it and we had just had such an amazing time on the Whit Sunday cruise, that we really wanted to go back out on a boat again for a few days. We decided on a three day live aboard the boat diving trip and I was so excited. This time, ... read more

We drove to Airlie beach and thought we make use of our voucher that we won at the neighbours night in Melbourne and book ourselves on a three day, two night cruise! It was class...we both had an amazing time! Such a good time in fact that we have booked ourselves on another one...only this time, we'll be doing 11 dives on the Great Barrier reef including two night dives so I can't wait! Lets just hope the weather holds out! Been a bit blustery lately in Cairns. All the people on the boat were really cool...we fell in with two Irish girls and a couple from Leeds. We set off on our sailing boat called Broomstick! It was built in South Africa to win the Cape Town to Rio Yacht Race. From there the boat ... read more

We flew to Brisbane city and only stayed one night as we had spent the last week and a half in cities and decided that we had had enough of them. We picked up our little hire car....another Hyundai Getz only this time, a nice baby blue colour and made our way to Surfers Paradise in the Gold coast. We spent a couple of nights there lazing on the beach which was beautiful and going into the sea for a dip every so often. It was great as the beach was only a 50m walk from our hostel. David's cousin Lynsey was also there with some of her medical friends who apparently were out there doing their elective...how unfortunate for them having to do it in Australia...haha..but we managed to fit in a night out together ... read more

We flew from Queenstown in New Zealand to Sydney...a good three hour flight and booked ourselves into the Railway Yha and slept in an old train carriage which was interesting! It was comfortable though and didn't look like a train in the inside at all. We spent the first night having a walk around the centre and we saw people from all walks of life except from Australia! We couldn't believe it! There wasn't an Aussie in sight! They must be all in London and Dublin....I think it must have been about a week before we actually met some Australians! David couldn't believe it...it was definitely not what I imagined for Sydney! And where are all the Aussie bars?? Every bar you pass is called Paddy O'Flannigans or Shenannigans or Molly Malones! I think if we ... read more

We flew into the South Island and straight away, the difference in scenery was evident, the South Island is definitely much more mountainous and browner than the North Island. The views from the aeroplane were amazing and the plane had to completely turn on one side to fit in between the tight nest of snow capped mountains so as it could land. Queensrown was crazy. Being the holidays, the town was fully booked and David and I couldn't get two dorm beds in the whole town for one night nor the next town over. The place was bedlam and apparently it was going to be like that for the next week or so. We decided to cut our losses and make our way up the east coast and hopefully manage a stop in at Queenstown towards ... read more

First of all, apologies for the lack of blogs lately.....blame it on new zealand, there's just too much to do there!! We have just been having the best time and with email being pretty expensive, the blogs have definitely taken a back seat in things! Well, we left South America, gladly, although we had a class time there, the spanish really was a strain and we were ready for a modern country with toilet roll flushing toilets, English speaking people, tourist information and the main thing was a car.....let's say a big goodbye to the 20 hour buses for a while! The flight wasn't too bad, slept most of it...pretty used to long journeys by now and have mastered the skill of being comfortable with long, boring sessions of sitting about with nothing to do, whilst ... read more

Glacier Spotting in Ushuaia and El Calafate South America » Argentina » El Calafate » Perito Moreno Glacier By The Smiles June 16th 2007 We wrapped up warm the following day and thought we make a trip to see the martial glacier. It was absolutely freezing and apparently you can walk to it from our hostel in a few hours but we copped out of that one and hopped in a taxi to the chairlift. According to the guide book, it was supposed to be a two hour walk from the bottom of the chairlift and we were told that the chairlift wouldnt be working at this time of year. We arrived and the chairlift, to our surprise was up and running. We jumped on and got dropped off at the top...the views were spectacular...snow ... read more

We took a flight from Buenos Aires to Rio Gallegos and there was definitely a drop in the temperature! On came the coats, hats, scraves and gloves, hoods up! We stayed one night in Rio Gallegos and thank goodness it was only the one night because there is nothing to do there. Got a twelve hour bus the next day, off four times for passport control, exiting Argentina, entering chile, exiting Chile, entering Argentina! Arrived that evening in Ushuaia, the southern most city in the world, 800 miles from Antarctica and the air had turned icy cold! We only get daylight from 10 in the morning to about 5 at night. All around us are snow capped mountains, forests, lakes and the town is a delightful town full of lots of little wooden lodges as ... read more

We took a flight to Foz de Iguazu, a little town on the border of Brazil. We only stayed the one night there and the reason was for the Iguazu falls. The falls are in between the borders of Argentina and Brazil so it is a good crossing over point. The first day, we saw the falls from the Brazil side which we were told was the less spectacular side. When we arrived, me and David couldnt believe it. We imagined that the falls were jst one huge waterfall but they were actually dozens of gigantic waterfalls pouring over from all sides into a huge river! The waterfall system consists of about 270 falls along 2.7 kilometres of the Iguazu River. Some of the individual falls are up to 82 metres in height, though the majority ... read more
