Hi All! Can’t believe this will be one of our last blog updates. The trip has gone so quickly. Luckily the flood waters receded quickly so we could stick with our original plan of heading up to Fraser Island then back down to Brisbane. However as we have not updated this for awhile, we also need to fill you in on the places we stopped on the way. After our last update we had a few more days left in Sydney which we spent exploring the Chinese Gardens and trying to have a picnic at an open air cinema. Unfortunately that didn’t quite happen as the minute we walked outside with our picnic it started to hammer down. So it was off to the video shop to get a DVD and have a picnic on our ... read more

This morning, packing up the Spaceship ©top box for the last time, I glanced down and saw what looked like racehorse froth running off my legs … Such was the ferocity of the continuing rain this morning that I didn’t bother to rinse out my shorts, having hand-washed them, and instead let the rain water wash them and me. Since our return from 1770 to the Sunshine Coast, it has rained almost without pause for 72 hours – the local town had 200mm rain in three hours yesterday afternoon. As more rivers burst their banks it has become increasingly difficult to move about Queensland and we have experienced several detours in the past day or two. Even Brisbane looks like going under water if there is much more rain and the Spaceship© depot was surrounded by ... read more

G'day everybody, Hope you are all well. Our latest adventure to report included doing a 3 night bush camp/ canoe trip in Noosa. When we arrived it looked a little more basic than we expected!! But also very nice with a camp fire going! Our first night was spent in one of the permanent dorm tents in hammock style beds, surrounded by the odd creepy crawly and occasional massive Spider!! So as you can imagine sleeping wasn't the easiest! On our second day we were given our instructions and crash course in canoeing before we set out along with 10 other travellers and NO GUIDE for our 16km (10 miles) canoe trip down the Noosa river!!! Lets just say it was tough going but we made it and it was nice to know the next days ... read more

So, the last time i posted, i managed to just about write up until our trip to the whitsunday islands.... the trip cost around $150 dollars for the day, but i can tell you now, it was some of the best money we've ever spent. the night before we went out, quite stupidly as we were getting picked up at 7, and didnt get in till half 3. Still, it didnt stop us having an amazing time. Whitehaven beach has the purest sand in the world, and the way the beach goes out in to the sea is literally a sight you'll never see again. While mike and i went into the sae we noticed three baby sharks, enought to scare you, but me and mike had a bit of fun chasing them around for ... read more

Brisbane did not fail to impress us. I say that because it was a nice ease back into the city life after what felt like months away from it. Brisbane is Australia’s third largest city and the newest. It’s pretty, picturesque and with the times but not so with the times as to make your head spin. The skyline of Brisbane was fantastic – perhaps it’s not in the same league of the New York skyline or London but it was definitely pleasant enough to put a smile on our faces! The best way to get to see it though is on the CityCat. It’s the local public transport that goes up and down the river all day. We jumped on and got to take in everything on the riverside. What is even better is to ... read more

Arrived in Brisbane after a seven hour flight from Singapore – Business Class of course ! Brisbane is Australia’s third largest city and is vibrant and buzzing, some might say brassy... we stayed in an apartment on the 19th floor of the Oaks Festival Towers, centrally locally in the CBD (not to be confused with an SBD, according to John ! ) convenient for the bars, restaurants and public transport, Festival Towers incorporates the Festival Hall where all the famous names have played including The Beatles, Neil Diamond, Rolf Harris ! Tonight we had our first BBQ, not Australian but Korean...what’s that all about ? We couldn’t find an Aussie BBQ so settled for the Korean BBQ Restaurant. Friday 12th November - Up early for a day out to “Surfers Paradise” on the Gold Coast, caught ... read more

Get to Brisbane and get the feeling that it's going to be a bit of a quiet one so my first night is spent sleeping. It's now my first full day and I decide to go explore. Over the bridge I go and past a museum with dinosaurs outside of it. Definitely on my list of things to do (anything with dinosaurs is automatically on my list!) I end up wandering around for the best part of three hours, finding little walks along the river which was quite cool. For the next three days in no particular order, I did the following: Visited a man-made beach in the middle of the city which was very pretty but a little strange; Went to the casino, bought two chips, wimped out on placing a bet and cashed my ... read more

What a strange, even downright bizarre, few days. I’ve become practically a native of Brisbane. After three days here, I know my way around like a local. The city has a huge river weaving and meandering through its heart like a thick, brown snake, and there are fantastic catamaran and other river taxis plowing their way up and down this river. I spent yesterday riding these ferries as the weather slowly deteriorated and the day deepened, thickening clouds adding a layer of gloom to my speculations about the rest of the trip. I was due to leave for South East Asia’s sweaty climes, but a number of factors were interfering with the normal enthusiasm that would normally greet such a plan for me. I asked Antony what he thought I should do since he is not ... read more

So here it is - my last day in Oz. I've had a pleasant three days in Brisbane. Yesterday, I spent out at the Australia Zoo, seventy km out of the city near the oddball Glasshouse mountains. This was Steve Irwin's famous Zoo. It's a great zoo, and, for me, it's the perfect way to say goodbye to Oz. I had a perfect day out there, the highlight of which was discovering that kangaroo and wallaby fur is softer than the fur on a soft cat. Who would have thought it? So, anyway, thanks for everything Oz - gotta love this place!... read more
