Hi As you may have seen from the facebook pics we went to Australia Zoo. It was great, we got to stroke a baby alligator, hand feed kangaroos and wallabies, saw a crocodile display in the crocoseum and an awesome tiger display where the keepers played with them in the enclosure. I also met terri irwin and had a pic taken and got to hold a koala called kramer. We took loads of pics, over 100. Yesterday we laid by the lagoon on a manmade beach and soaked up the sun and went on a big wheel like the london eye. We are off to Byron Bay for 3 days tomorrow and then 8 days in sydney before flying out on 20th feb. Glad the dvd came ok, cant wait to see it again. Get Jem ... read more

We made it to Brisbane at last (12 hours of Caroline sleeping lol), we have overcome the shared bathroom phobia too but its so busy at the hostel its mad, i feel like the oldest one here lol !! We are off to see Oz Zoo Thursday which will be very cool. Went to see a warship today at the Queensland Maritime Museum which was awesome we both really enjoyed it and they also have another lagoon thingy we can paddle in if we get chance. We are off to see a bit of culture tomorrow at the Art Gallery as well and there is a Brisbane eye like the one in London which we want to go on. We also stayed in Rockhampton for 3 nights at the YHA which was very nice accept nobody ... read more

14/01/2010 Our final day in Brisbane so we are going to chill at South Bank and in the botanical gardens. This evening we are due at Nyree’s house for ‘ROO NIGHT’ Rob is so excited! The roo was delicious! We will certainly be trying it again in its many forms! We can’t believe our trip is planned and we have got so much to look forward to here is a brief rundown - Noosa, Rainbow Beach, Hervey Bay, Fraser Island, Bundaberg, 1770, Airlie Beach, Mission Beach, Cairns, Cape Tribulation, Port Douglas, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Bells Beach and St Kilda - all before flying to Auckland to spend 40 days in New Zealand. 15/01/10 Time to move on - let the adventures begin! We caught the City Cat to Riverside before hiking to the transit centre (this ... read more

Despite our late arrival, we were still up at the crack of dawn! We were unsure of what we wanted to do considering the long flight we had just encountered, lack of sleep and the time difference. However, this decision was made easier by Tom (a fellow traveller from France) who offered to take us into the city and show us some of the sites, we initially thought this would be done by bus and were shocked to arrive at the dock where we boarded the city cat (a type of ferry which operates across Brisbane River like a bus). We also used this opportunity to get a new laptop to replace the broken one :-( After getting our breakfast and bearings we walked to South Bank (the artificial beach) and relaxed before lunch. We went ... read more

Kohta on kolme kuukautta luuhattu maailmalla, joten lienee pienen yhteenvedon aika. Pelkastaan Australiassa on istuttu greyhoundissa 40 tuntia. Yosijan meille on tahan saakka tarjonnut 32 eri paikkaa. Taso on vaihdellut vetoisesta lastulevykopista kahden huoneen asuntoon, jossa oli takapihalla mm. uima-allas ja kaasugrilli (jota kaytimme ahkerasti). Autossakin on nu... read more
Varikasta uutta vuotta!

Well...so...yeh... Rain!!! darn rain, ok, well it hasn't exactly been raining all of the days but it has rained rather a lot. However apart from talking about the weather all of the time, it is also quite hot, and when the sun is shining its rather pleasant. On the whole Brisbane is quite a nice city, its not full to the brim of endless things to do, but is on the right side of busy in my opinion. There is no beach here, but they have a man made swimming complex on the south-side of the river which makes for a great free get away, with nice views of downtown Brisbane to boot. Thats the thing I've found whilst staying here, although it might not have the beating pulse of London back home, it's much more ... read more

Met up with Ben from back at village east which was good fun. Very weird to meet up on the other side of the world. Safe to say his is the only mobile number i currently have!!!! The hostel, I'm Currently at is Base Backpackers Central. Its pretty big as hostels go, filled with people from all over. Cant really give my opinion on it yet as haven't been here long enough. Safe to say at present, it will do. Its 7:45am and I'm in the lobby which serves as a travel agent/ internet hotspot/ 'job club'. The original intention wasn't ... read more

Settling in So, I was staying at the Billy Tin Backpacker Hostel on George Street and like other backpacker joints I’d previously stayed in there were a lot of-long termers. In amongst all this were the other the transient folk from Germany, France, Korea, Taiwan who were working as slave labour in fruit picking. Or the Germans/French who were out here and were so bloody young it was painful. It was a strange environment to be in; half-student house, half-hostel, with everyone cooking in the kitchen of an evening and DVDs/TV being shown constantly. You then saw the same people on a daily basis, either coming in from work or just waking up and making some lunch. Getting to know Brissie As you can probably imagine I was rather keen to sort myself out with a ... read more
