The flight to Brisbane was in a word bearable. Compare to the flight to Denver it felt significantly shorter mostly because it is a shorter but also because of the fact that I did manage some sleep this time thanks in part to the little neck support cushion. The In flight entertainment system on the air plain was inferior to the one on the Delta flight to Atalanta. The "where you are" screen was horribly useless and had this feel of 80's TV. The movie selection also seemed smaller than the Delta flight. The screen felt smaller and the lack of touch screen made using it less pleasant. I did get to watch some interesting Documentaries. The one was about a mother who counsels people that have been visited by UFO's and her son who thinks ... read more

Firstly, I have noticed a few glaring mistakes in my previous blog... Notably, 'Chow' at the end of the blog should be 'Ciao', clearly I was thinking of Chicken Chow Mein and Mr.Powell should instead be 'Mr. Baden-Powell' and actually make sense in the camping context that it was written! Clearly, I should re-read my blogs more closely! Secondly, I am going to try and figure out how to put pictures up on this blog. Fingers crossed they'll be uploaded in the next couple of days. ... read more

On Tuesday I headed out of Sydney with Oz Experience - a bus company that I'm doing all my travelling with here in Australia. We set off pretty early and there were lots of lovely people on the bus. We travelled up the Pacific Highway, stopping in various tiny towns along the way. My first overnight stop was at a surf camp just up the coast from Coffs Harbour (a small town known for growing bananas). The surf camp was a pretty cool place, full of surfer dudes from all over the world who are working there, and heaps of backpackers getting in a surf lesson. I went kayaking that afternoon and then chilled out with a few beers around a camp fire in the evening. The atmosphere was great, and we played lots of different ... read more

As you probably have worked out by now, these blogs have been typed by me (Lisa) while we are on the road when travelling between townships (coz I ain’t tugging no big thing behind me other than my butt). Then of course Mr G adds in his additions, quips and any wise words of wisdom that he may fancy at the time when we arrive at our destination (GS – all the funny shit....). We have put on our R M Williams gear and are boot scooting our way through QLD, listening to lots of country and western, talkback or gospel and Christian stations (not too much choice when the iPod runs out of batteries). So we hope you are enjoying our blogs. Get yourself a cuppa and sit back for a read. Well here we ... read more

G'day! Just a quickie - Right, Ellie and I are still staying at the City Backpackers in Brisbane and are now both working and have been for a couple of weeks. I have picked up a data-entry job at a law firm in Greenslopes (around a 15 minute bus journey in the morning from Brisbane CBD) and Ellie is currently working at the EKKA Festival selling show bags (2 days into it). Ellie did start working at the bar here in the hostel but to cut a long story short (Ellie tells it a lot better than I do so ask her!); she stopped working there, and started cleaning at the hostel for free accommodation for around a week and is now working at the EKKA for 10 days. We were both meant to be working ... read more

For those of you who are wondering what the EKKA Festival is and what it is all about, here's the official website: http://www.ekka.com.au/. I probably should have put that link on earlier but better late than never I guess...... read more

Woke up to a lovely morning and found that Airlie Beach temperatures were hotter than in Trinity Beach, mainly because there was no wind. I went for an early morning walk along the beach and Stephanie and Tux went off to the market and to investigate options for getting over to the Whitsunday islands. The next time we heard from them was to say that they had failed to find a boat trip across but had got a discounted deal on a seaplane flight to land on Whitehaven Beach - Google it! The rest of us had decided to explore the area by car, but met up with them at the marrket after having breakfast in Airlie Beach. The place has a very heavy backpacker influence, but is beautiful. Stephanie and Tux needed to be at ... read more

Managed to leave Trinity Beach around 7.30 for the 400 mile trip to Airlie Beach. As I think I have mentioned before its amazing that the maximum speed on the main Bruce Highway is largely all 62mph and everyone seems to observe this rule! It therefore took until about 4pm before we arrived in Airlie beach, with Tux doing first and last session and me doing a long middle stint. Tom Tom working really well. The main feature along the road is just hundreds of miles of sugar cane and no evidence of the flooding early in the year. Apartment was very nice, spread over 2 floors and had wonderful views out to sea. That evening we ate in the restaurant on the complex. Just before going down, we cracked open the last bottle of bubbly ... read more
