After our amazing trip round the Whitsundays we took an overnight Greyhound bus to a place called 1770.. basically one of the first places Captain Cook landed up in Queensland in 1770.. hence the name! it was a really cool place, pretty untouched by tourists so everything is still really cheap! we did a sea kayaking trip ... read more

G'day again from down under. We left Noosa the following day to travel further south 2hr, to Brisbane. We arrived at our hostel a short time later and then set out to explore the area we were in, which was just north east of the city center. One of our first stops was at a local cinema to see if No Country for Old Men had arrived yet, and to my excitement it had. I read the book about a year ago and loved it, which led to me reading two more books by McCarthy all being some of my favorite reads. That is just one reason why I have been wanting to see the film. However, I do know that most film adaptations are usually less than perfect when compared to their book counterparts. I ... read more

Moved into the city back packers on Upper Roma Street on the 30th of Jan. Pretty good place, there's a swimming pool, Irish Bar, Free Internet, (if you can get on). Got into the room and found I was in a 9 person dorm. 3 English lads, an English girl, 2 girls from Finland, a Japanese Girl and a guy from Poland. Pretty good mix I suppose. One of the English Guys Stu talked to me straight away so I quickly decided to adopt him as my drinking buddy. The 2 Finish girls were mates with Stu and were pretty chatty so we went down to the bar for a pint. New years eve was a pretty early start as there wasn't much else to do between Christmas and New Year with everything being shut. Think ... read more

Went in the city centre during the day because I was supposed to be meeting up with a friend called Hannah I met in New York on the first leg of my trip. Unfortunately she forgot I was coming so decided to go to the beech. Ended up checking out a few hostels in the city and asking around about work. Also had a look in a few of the shops in the Queens Street mall for possible bargains after Christmas. Decided that I had to go for a beer on Christmas Eve as I knew my mates back home would be doing that and I'd be with them if I wasn't travelling. Deon suggested we all went up to the leagues club where he played at the previous season. I'd already been once but forgot ... read more

Hello everyone. We are currently in Brisbane for Christmas and New Year. Since Byron Bay we travelled to Surfers Paradise where we had complete luxury without even realising this when we booked it. We had a really nice room with a balcony and own bathroom and fridge and tv etc, just like being in a hotel but paying backpacker price. Also got the use of a swimming pool and free tennis, which we played everyday!!! Was very cool. Surfers was a bit weird though, as you would be lying on the beach and then look behind you and it was like seeing New York. And it was full of Irish pubs, every pub we saw and went in was Irish!!!! Now we are in Brisbane and have gone back to being in a dorm with other ... read more

Hello! Sorry it's been a while, I've been working very hard. I did my last day of selling sand pictures today, it was very sad to leave because it's actually been a lot of fun and I've made a lot of money working with them in the last couple of weeks. Kim has been working there for the last few days too and we worked together today. Kim and I spent a day sightseeing around Brisbane last week, taking photos of each other in a Xmas hat! I've enjoyed living at The Hub, the apartment I'm in, but I will be glad to leave, we think we have had bed bugs, I'm covered in bites. Also, I had an allergic reaction to a mosquito bite and my right arm swelled up, I am having to take ... read more

Hi again and so soon after we did the last one, unfortunately camera batteries were low so we couldn't send any more photos. However we had prepared the earlier blog some days ago and since then we have moved on to Hervey Bay and now to Brisbane. We stayed in a lovely hotel in the Marina and have decided we like four star hotels the best. We went on a ferry to Fraser Island where we travelled around in a four wheel drive with a small group and a very amusing German Guide. The island, the largest sand island in the world was awesome but the drive across it was unforgettable too as really bumpy - we have the odd bruise to show - on the way back Margaret fell asleep and was woken by having ... read more

After a lovely lie in in a real bed and finding that all our washing had been done and just needed to be hung out - heaven!! We decided to head into the city once we'd had a quiet morning and Tony offered us a lift into Brisbane. He dropped us a place called Kangeroo Point which was on the river and directed us to the ferry point so that we could catch it into the city. We had a wander around and found our way to the centre and did some window shopping around the awesomeness that is the Queen St Mall. It's huge and we kept getting lost amidst all the different little malls and shops! We then went and had a look around some of the hostels in the city to find somewhere ... read more

Its my last day in Australia, tomorrow i'm off to New Zealand, like always before finishing my last destination i am ready to move onto my next destination, although it has been very nice to returned to "The Fegan Family" to enjoy & share my last few days with them all. It was so nice going through some of their old photos and travel stories and they couldn't let me leave without having a traditional Oz BBQ :) and you guys back home know how i like a good old Barbie!!! Luckily Lawrie had a day off the next day so he kindly took me up to Mt Nebo for some small treks and shown me their Cafe they use to own.
