This is the official blog by me, Daniel Neal. All others claiming to be Daniel Neal are frauds and should be prosecuted in a court of law immediately! I will be travelling around Earth for the next 5 months from October 16th, 2007 to March 11th, 2008, with my friends Kamberly and Pauliwog (not exactly their real names). We will be travelling to Middle Earth for 2 months, aka New Zealand, which is actually closer to Antarctica than I was expecting so I will need to pack some warmer clothes. Australia for 2 weeks, where my aunt and uncle brought back one of the funniest gifts for me, a pouch made out of kangaroo scrotum. It's practical because it keeps the kangaroo population down and I can store things in it. Thailand and Cambodia are next, this is where Kamisan will be meeting Paul and myself and where we will be spending a solid 5 weeks. Apparently we should stay on the beaten path in Cambodia because they still have landmines, oops. Then for the last 5 weeks we will peruse Italy and Spain where we will most likely spend the remainder of our money plus some we don't have. I can picture myself calling family members, asking how much it is worth to them, monetarily, to get me home : )

I think the website claims that anyone can comment on my journal entries, so I encourage that. You can also continue leaving messages or poke me on facebook if you so please. I will have my cell phone on me, but the number is different for travelling. If you just have to talk to me for some unforseen reason, an asteroid is hurtling toward earth and we only have a day left, then you can call me. Message me or call my parents for the number. Otherwise I will keep contact with all of you through this, facebook, myspace, and e-mail. That should be sufficient.

I will try to update this at least once a week so keep checking back. I will see all of you when I get home.

Peace out, Daniel

Hello for the last time from this travel blog. The end of my journey is finally here. It is hard for me to believe that 5 months of traveling have gone by already. It seems like not so long ago I was sitting in the same spot I am now, at my computer in the house I grew up in, looking at the dogs lying on the couch and enjoying the peace and quiet. It feels nice, comfortable, after constantly moving from city to city, culture to culture, country to country, but it also feels a bit strange. I think because I have gotten used to the consistent exploring of a new environment every day for the past 150, that being back in the familiar will take a bit of getting used to. But before ... read more

March 8th 2008

Hola again! I am back for the second to last post I will make of my trip, so let´s get to it. The following morning in Granada I awoke at 5:30 to a morning of travel. I took a taxi to the train station followed by a 4 1/2 hour train ride to Madrid a 30 min express train to Toledo, and two buses (one took me to the opposite side of Toledo I needed to go to), which finally put me at the doorstep of my hotel. Apparently the door of the hotel is always locked and the man who runs the place doesn´t seem to be around all the time, so I waited out front for about 20 min, periodically ringing the doorbell until he woke up from his afternoon nap. The room is ... read more

March 4th 2008

Hola! I felt I should post again so soon because otherwise my final post would be ridiculously long with way too many pics. So on the morning of the 4th day in Sevilla I took a train 3 hrs east to Granada. I managed to make it to my hostel without much difficulty even though I had to transfer buses and walk through crazy angled cobblestone streets. I found out upon arriving that I had booked a room for 2009. Whoops. The owner was super nice though and got me a room with no issue. Then I set out to explore the town with what little time I had left of the day. I thought the streets of Sevilla were winding, but no, Granada´s take the cake. I had a map and became immediately dissoriented after ... read more

Hola all! I'm glad those that responded to my last blog enjoyed my pics. I had fun taking them and a ton a video. I'm trying to get a little more fotage because I'm planning on cutting together a personal narrative of my trip when I get home. So check your local video store in a few months. Paul and I split off and are basically traveling to the same citys, but at slightly different paces throughout the rest of Spain. 5 months of traveling with someone requires some space from time to time. So I took a ridiculously nice train to Valencia which is 3 hrs south of Barcelona. On the train I received some little sweets, headphones to watch a movie, and the leg room was phenomenal compared to having none when I was ... read more

February 26th 2008

Hola! The past 4 days have been packed with sights here in Barcelona. Here we go. Alright so the first day in Barcelona, which was my birthday, I spent getting my barrings and seeing some buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi was a Spanish born architect who designed many unique buildings in Barcelona in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The first building I went to was the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia (Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family), which is basically a huge cathedral with an incredibly detailed exterior of the nativity scene and the the crucification of Christ all done with sculptures. The building is probably a few hundred feet high and is still not yet completed. The work had been started in the late 1800's and is projected to be finished sometime ... read more

Bonjourno for the last time from Italy. Alright so we traveled from Naples on an overnight train to Palermo, which is on the northern coast of Sicily. Paul and I had a sleeper car, which we payed way too much for, but on the plus side we did get a good nights rest for our day in Palermo as compared to Kam who was an angry beast until he got his Fanta. We walked through the city, finding ourselves at the Theater Massimo, which is the 2nd largest Roman theater in Italy, and where they filmed one of the final scenes for Godfather III. We meandered the streets, witnessing a rally, smelling the fresh fish of an outdoor market, admiring yet another church, catching a bus to a small town on the outskirts where we ... read more

Bonjourno! We are currently in Italy, the 5th country on our trip around the world. First let me back up to when we were still in Bangkok though. The day I wrote my last blog we had a wonderful Japanese dinner with Lily and her boyfriend Bank and then we were kindly escorted to the airport by them directly afterwards. Upon checking in for our flight we were told that it was delayed by 8 hours, till 8 am the following morning. We didn't take the news to hard because we were put up in the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in in my life! It had to be a five star because there were bell boys everywhere in matching outfits, a huge lobby complete with a stream in the middle that had color changing ... read more
