Today was the day we had to check out one of Australias most famous beaches - Bondi beach, for Tom's birthday. He had to go surfing! We got there and said in all seriousness, 'Is that it??' The sand was nice, obviously much nicer than back home, is was only a small bay and we didn't really understand what all the hype is all about. I also had my first ice cream since iv been out here! We had a bit of a problem trying to light the candles for toms birthday coz he wudnt leave the room!! but we managed it and the $3 chocolate cake from Woolworths was great!... read more

The next day we met up with a hungover Phil, who'd gone out again despite insisting he was going to have a quiet night and recharge. We all went to Manly for the day, a suburb that has the harbour on one side and the beach and sea on the other. We caught the ferry from Circular Quay, and enjoyed the crossing, with its stunning views of the enormous harbour, with coastlines that looked like something from the Med - all rocky sides, crashing waves, and wooded areas. The harbour was teeming with life, a playground for the city goers who like to take out their boats on a weekend, as well as light aircraft in the sky swooping low above us, and tons of ferries. Manly was a lovely, with a long sweeping beach, and ... read more

Mine ... read more

Due to a late night internet cafe sesh and Louisa having the only key to the room, I slept in the TV room! Had breakfast then slept for the rest of the morning. Later we took a very long bus ride to Bondi Beach. Wasn't that impressed, very built-up, seen better almost everywhere, it's not Blackpool! ;-)... read more

Hi All, Will make this a quick update to let everyone know where I am, safe and fine, but very tired! Had a little nap on the beach, so thought it best to get out of the sun before I burn to a crisp. I love the blue skies and gentle breezes, and the fact that it's tuesday and the beach is still busy! Will post photos from here and vietnam later, now for a nap! Take care I'll update soon love anna xx... read more

Hi everyone! Made it across the Tasman safe and sound and now we're in Sydney for a few days. In our last few days in Christchurch, New Zealand I managed to unload my guitar on trademe.co.nz which is like eBay in the States. We also sold Chippy to a guy Caitlin met on Stewart Island. We didn't get too bad a price and I was just relieved to sell the car in such a short time. Stu and Barabara, the couple we were staying with, lent us their car to drive to the airport. I was amazed by this immediate generosity since they had only known us a few days. In speaking with them at dinner (and sharing a bottle of wine with them), I learned quite a bit about true Kiwi hospitality. They live by ... read more

Today I redid the Bondi to Coogee beach walk without the downpour, which was far more enjoyable. It is a beautiful stretch of coastline past Tamarama, Clovelly and a graveyard. We spotted huge spiders and skinks, but the strangest event was a middle-eastern tourist. Why? Well, I was standing reading the plaque above Bondi when said tourist approached and demanded to know "Where are all the people? What time is there more people?". This was odd because firstly, I was reading the info on the plaque, implying I was probably not the local guru and secondly, why he was so insistence on knowing! Having suggested that the forecasted rain and overcast sky were keeping people away and that usually there were lots of people, several times, he walked away unsatisfied (after trying to get an exact ... read more

Su and I braved the packed, hot, bus from sydney centre out to Bondi today. Crystal water and pearly white sand draped in towels and tanned locals greeted us. The sun was blazing but the water was lovely....ever had the Pacific ocean break on your head? strange feeling, swimming and playing in the rip tides! then heading up the beach for a sun-worship. Its a feast of flesh up there! quite alarming. but much sunburn for my liking! watching the surfers demonstrate why Oz is so famous for its waves was great fun. but then it was back on the bus to sydney in the heat and the crowd...Sunday must be a popular day for Bondi! Trying to gently build a tan but the weather is a bit unpredictable...I burnt in the cloud on my first ... read more
