Good Day!! Greetings from Oz! We have had the most brilliant time in SYdney, we are both totally blown away by the place. We arrived to a rather chilli 17 degrees which was defibnately a shock to the system after Bali especially while Britain experiences the best heat waves in ages! Sod's Law! We arrived in our apartment to a fantastic view over Bondi beach and the bay. Every morning we watched the surfers as we ate breakfast! It was fantastic having cooking facilities again and I was overwhelmed with joy at the ability to have a cup of tea with real milk again...agh the simple pleasures! Due to this much time was spent walking around countless supermarkets looking for food which we "could" cook, only to leave with more pasta and bolognese sauce. Though having ... read more

Hi all, Another quick update to let you know that we have now moved on and arrived OK at the world famous Bondi Beach!!! We decided to move on as Caroline was unable to get much work where we were and the hostel in Newtown had a really bad tv reception in our room (no good for watching the World Cup in the wee hours of the morning), so we have now moved into a hostel which is $75 per week cheaper and much, much better. Bondi Sands Hostel It's costs us $350 per week (around 140GBP) We are staying in a queen ocean view room right slap bang on Bondi Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the world. We can go to sleep and wake up with the sound of the waves and ... read more

Not much has changed since the last post...we're still working pretty much everyday...but in the long run, the extra money saved will last longer, and we hope to be out of here early July. The rain has stopped for the first time in the past two weeks; now it's just cold, instead of rain and cold. Can't wait to get out of Sydney as it looks like all the travellers have left. Anyway, I've attached a few pics (more to come soon...slow computer), so enjoy! and feel free to comment - Taker easy and we'll talk to everyone soon!... read more

Hey all, just testing this out. As were still in Sydney, we probably won't be writing much until we start travelling, but we'll still be posting lots of pics. Hoping to update this on a weekly basis so save this link in your favourites. GO Jays and Oilers! and they don't have any Crown here, so anyone willing to send a bottle from Canada, let me know! Cheers... read more

(this means pleased to make your acquaintance) We arrived in Australia and checked into a very comfortable youth hostel with a huge Iron door. There was a nice hospitable Welsh owner who greeted us at the front with a ¨whadayawant??¨ (which we interpreted as - might I enquire about your needs?) actually it was more of a ¨alright bud!¨ this place immediately chilled us out after the long journey. How do I start this entry? Okay, so Ive been sick for a while now. Ever since I got to Bangkok really. The last full day in Bangkok, I woke up really sick after about only 2 hours of sleep and an extremely high fever. I visited about 5 pharmacists until one told me I needed to go to the hospital immediately. I went, and they diagnosed me with an intestine infection, hooked me up to an IV (for my very first time), quite scary actually, and told me I needed to spend atleast one night in the hospital. Emily decided she wouldn't be able to sleep at our guest house on her own, so they rolled an extra bed in the room just for her. I was really happy, because the person sleeping next to ... read more

Hey guys, We went to Bondi Beach yesterday, which was really cool; it was nice and warm, clear blue skies (although it did cloud over later in the afternoon). While you guys were all stuck at work, we were lying on a beach getting very burnt. Yes, my face is red and lizzy has random red patches, and half a red face. Lizzy climbed the harbour bridge the day before, unfortunately she survived. I didnt really want to do it so I just sat in the sun by the harbour crossing my fingers. We are going off to our next hotel tonight, the check in time is of course later than the check out time, so we have to wander around with our big backpacks for a while. I think Lizzy can carry mine as well. ... read more

So what should have been a relaxing time in Christchurch turned into a rapid stressed affair whilst we tried to sell the car and sort things (mainly banking stuff) out for Oz. We managed to visit the Antarctica Centre but that was about all. So an uneventful flight led to Sydney arriving in the early evening - a dubious shuttle bus to Hotel 59 a nice friendly place although as we were to find out later that evening right in the middle of the red light district! At our first meal out we were greeted by "not even the Australians dare come here!. Anyway a few drinks later and a quality western meal of burger and chips sent us to bed early in anticipation of meeting Rachel and Peter the following morning. Woke to glorious sunshine ... read more

After my body recovered from the Milford Track, I made my way through Dunedin and on to Christchurch. Dunedin was definetly memorable because I met up with three friends from Chicago; Emily Fitzmaurice, Katie Pascente and Nora Houlihan. It was a lot of fun because I got to see the contrast between our two travel experiences. Whereas Rachel and I blitzkreiged our way throughout the whole country in two months, these girls settled in Dunedin for three months. They had their own room in a hostel, had a group of stable friends and had jobs. I had a great time hanging out with them. We went to the beach, talked about pastimes, got sick from eating too much chocolate on a Cadbury's chocolate tour and had a Mexican Fiesta Bon Voyage night. At this point ... read more

Well, my intermediate class was cancelled yet again. I decided that I needed some pictures to prove to you guys that I'm actually going out there so I 'HIRED' a surfboard today and went out with mark and mike. THe surfing was choppy as hell and really difficult. I was also on a shorter board to make it more difficult; but it was fun as always! We then went out for a 'gourmet burger' afterwards at Burgerman and I was going to take a picture of the burger when it got there but then I took a bite instead. And then it was gone... but I got a picture of the plate. Tonight Marks cooking a nice Italian meal, I vow to not put on weight but its been difficult. They eat so damn well. I ... read more
