Hello all and sorry for the delay in communications! So our final stop Florida and a stop characterised by substantial food, drink and more food! We were met by my sister and overwhelmingly grateful for her clean, lovely house, washing machine and clean sheets...agh the simple pleasures!! We had a great time catching up with family news getting to know our beautiful niece better and of course exploring he various food options of the states, highlights include the ale house full of chicken zingers and many, many beers and enourmous chinese take aways all washed down with my sisters emormous cocktails! Can't remember much more after a few of those but know it was good at the time! Continuing along the theme we went ona wine tasting session and got to sample some of Florida's best ... read more

Hi Everybody!!! We have just spent a fabulous few days in the not so hetrosexual San Francisco. We diecided as the trip is coming to an end, that we would go all out and upgrade our hotel, so we stayed in the terribly English King George Hotel in Union Square. This was a great idea, we totally lowered the tone of the hotel with our rucksacks and unwashed clothes! but nomatter we had a great time. The room was so posh they even gave us a complimentry jar of sweets! Nic was so excited she jumped up and down on the bed for a good half hour, until she realised that jumping up and down after half a jar of sweets is not a good idea! See what i mean abotu lowering the tone! We spent ... read more

Dear all, hope everyone is good and having a great summer.... I hear Big Brother is about to finish, who will win? Will it be Pete or will it be Glyn??? Who cares!!! Time for your next Travelblog Installment!!! Ok so we flew from Rarotonga to Tahiti, unfortunatly our jobs do not make enough money for us to be able to stay in Tahiti, so two hours later we left, bound for LA Baby! LA was Fabulous, abosolutely mind blowing and what surprised us most was that it was exactly as you expected! Our first night i booked us into a fancy comfort inn hotel(!!!) for the first night. This was great, we ordered in Pizza (American sized)watched TV and had a great time, we just ignored the fact that we were staying in downtown LA ... read more

Diving Again!

Published: August 9th 2006Oceania » Cook Islands » Rarotonga

Hey all, sorry for the delay but we had a definate lack of communications in the south pacific. The Cook Islands were very beautiful and we stayed in a great hostel in Rarotonga the main island. The beach was fantastic with two islands off the beach that you could snorkle or even wade out too. We had some a great time chilling on the beach with a lovely couple we met (Hi Chris and Lea!) and had alcohol fuelled evenings sitting on the patio playing cards and eating. Unfortunately the sunshine deserted us and by day three was set for five days of black clouds and rain (not exactly the post card I had in my mind!) We didn't let the rain stop play however and decided to go to the only place where the rain ... read more

Fantastic Fiji

Published: July 26th 2006Oceania » Fiji » Viti Levu » Nadi

Dear all, hope everyone is sitting comfortably...... then i'll begin.... we have just spent the week in Fiji, slap bang in the middle of the South Pacific!! its as far from home as we could ever get! Fiji was as you could expect hot, infact very hot at times, i believe it may have been as hot as the "supposed" heat wave in UK. We stayed in the main town of Nadi, prenounced Nandi for some apparent reason. Nadi was a bit of a disappointment, as we found it quite dirty and full of people trying to hustle us into their establishments. After Thailand we were more than prepared for them! I even rugby tackled some guy for trying to hand me a flyer! honestly! so we spent quite a bit of by the pool and ... read more

Hello all and greetings from New Zealand! We have just had one of the best weeks of our travels. We started off in a cold Auckland which was bit of a shock to the system! It was nice to be in a city again and we busied ourselves round the shops (mostly on a hunt for jumpers!) Auckland is just a nice place to explore on foot and we spent time just wandering the streets and alleys. We visited the sky tower and watched others throw themselves off it! On our second day we took a free bus tour of the city and surrounds and got to see the beach and some great views of the city and surrounding landscape. After that it was a bus journey to the middle of the island to stay in ... read more

Great Barrier Dives!

Published: July 10th 2006Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns

Dear all, hope everyone is well and enjoying a hot British summer. We have just spent the last week of our travels in Cairns, Queenslands most backpacker and scuba diving friendly city/large town. Its a great place and we had a fantastic time, the entire town is 100% geared up towards backpackers and people who wish to dive the great barrier reef. That was us on both accounts! We stayed in a great hostel (or backpacker resort!!) called bohemia where we had a tv,heat and actually room to walk around, which after our campervan experience was a godsend! We were also able to enjoy benifits of a swimming pool, a kitchen, so i could once again continually impress Nic with my variations on Spaghetti Bolognese. (believe me there are many variations!) The weather was once again ... read more

So onwards and upwards on the East coast! And with the travels the sunshine comes out, a welcome relief! We spent a few long days driving to get up to Airlie Beach, the gateway to the WhitSunday Islands. Even the postcards don't do the beauty of the islands justice, we have never seen colours in the sea like it! We took a boat trip round the Whitsundays and got to explore deserted islands, with beautiful white sands and amazing views. We even braved the chillier water (23 degrees but we've become such wusses after the heat of Thailand) to snorkle around the reef, just where the Great Barrie Reef begins. WE were treated to an amazing sight, beautiful colourful coral and some big fish. Even one called Elvis a giant wrasse, about half a metre long, I ... read more

Campervan Capers

Published: June 27th 2006Oceania » Australia » Queensland

Well folks here we are at last in a posistion to complain miserably about the weather...... after weeks and weeks and weeks we have finally been hit with the most awful weather we could have imagined, which along with our large spacious clean (!!!) campervan has made for an interesting week. We started the week by collecting the van in Sydney and then driving 800 km to the world famous Byron Bay. This is mainly a surfers hangout and after our experiences in Bali we believed that this would be the place for us. This may have been the case if we could actually have left the van to check if the surf was good, but unfortunately we were unable to leave the van for anything..... except food! and believe me cooking in a trangere stove ... read more

Good Day!! Greetings from Oz! We have had the most brilliant time in SYdney, we are both totally blown away by the place. We arrived to a rather chilli 17 degrees which was defibnately a shock to the system after Bali especially while Britain experiences the best heat waves in ages! Sod's Law! We arrived in our apartment to a fantastic view over Bondi beach and the bay. Every morning we watched the surfers as we ate breakfast! It was fantastic having cooking facilities again and I was overwhelmed with joy at the ability to have a cup of tea with real milk again...agh the simple pleasures! Due to this much time was spent walking around countless supermarkets looking for food which we "could" cook, only to leave with more pasta and bolognese sauce. Though having ... read more
