From Wollongong it was onto Jervis Bay, we stayed at a quiet little caravan park on the northern side at Currarong Beach. We drove into Huskisson which is the main town in the Bay. Here is the whitest sand beach besides White Haven in Australia. It really is beautiful, Hyams Beach, the sand was so white and the water clear and blue, also nice and calm, but we did not go swimming, too cold for us Queenslanders. We also went into Booderee Nat Park which forms part of the ACT although we are still in NSW. We had to pay $10 per day, just to go into the park, it was nice, but even NSW only charges $7 per day for there national parks. Still both are a bit of a Rip Off, we don't pay ... read more

First of all, happy 80th birthday to Sydney Harbour Bridge! It’s a shame we won’t be there for the celebrations, but be sure to make up for it when in another 10 days or so. We had planned to stay the night in Ulladulla (Australia does have some funny town names) but when we got there it didn’t really float our boat, so we continued on to Jervis Bay and set up camp at “Green Patch” within Booderee National Park. This spot is BEAUTIFUL! It reminded us a little of Mount Buffalo and, like Mount Buffalo, it rained as soon as we arrived. The weather had cleared by lunchtime the following day and we went for a couple of nice long walks along the beaches and through the rainforest. We saw heaps of animals: kangaroos (eating grass ... read more

Thu 16 Feb ----------- Last stop before Sydney - this is Myola on Jervis Bay in New South Wales. Lovely drive here (I am being boring so won't say this again). This camp is a bit like a wildlife park. Loads of beautiful parrots and we have been feeding wild kangaroos on the grass where you hang out your washing! That was fun and they are quite friendly and not frightened of people. Anyway, another beautiful day, very hot and NO RAIN! Iain has just seen what he thinks is a redback spider in the Gents toilets (see photos), These are very poisonous apparently. We haven't seen any snakes though - yet!... read more

11 - 13 February 2011 Parma! At long last! We surprised dad for his 60th by turning up unexpectedly at the farmstay at Parma. He knew the rest of the family was going but thought we were down on the Great Ocean Road so when we jumped out from behind the bedroom door after mum & dad arrived, he nearly had a heart attack! It was so good to see everyone and the kids went beserk together. Mum had cooked up a storm for the first night so we ate, drank and somehow ended up at a rave in the lounge room. What a funny funny night! We all danced for hours with the kids and our glow sticks - what a strange bunch! The kids collected eggs from the chooks - pity they didn't actually ... read more

2/02/11 - 8/02/11 Hmmm, what a whirlwind we have just popped out of! Leaving Porepunkah, we stopped off at Bright to have a look and then continued up towards NSW. Crossed the border once again and travelled straight into a terrible storm. We stopped at a very little town not far from Gundagai called Jugiong. We knew a storm was close so we set up as quickly as possible (not quick enough!) and watched the weather radar very closely. The storm was pretty terrifying - wasn't so much the torrential rain that was worrying us, but the galeforce winds. There were trees coming down with the force of the wind and the local council was out that night trying to clear the roads of fallen trees and debris. After we set up camp, we took refuge ... read more

Waking in the morning we were pleased to find that the temperature had moved up a couple of degrees and the sun was doing its best to break through the clouds. We drove to Jervis bay and stopped at Hyams beach. It is said that the sand at Hyams beach is the whitest in the world so we were looking forward to seeing what it looked like. Pulling over at the side of the beach we got our first sight of the sand. It was so white that you needed your sunglasses! The sea was so clear and blue, even the white surf as the waves rolled over was aqua in colour - just stunning. We grabbed our snorkel gear and towels and headed down the bank. Stepping on to the sand was an experience in ... read more

Mollymook and Jervis Bay, Sunday 11th to Wednesday 14th April 2010 With our kangaroo watching complete we headed off to see our friend Lynn, who we’d organized to stay with that evening. Lynn had a summer house in Mollymook. As we drove away from Pebbly Beach we kept our eyes peeled just in case anything else decided to fly out from thin air and crush our car. We arrived at Lynn’s holiday home at 5.45pm. The house was set in a remarkable location, with a definite wow factor. It was set into the side of a hill looking down upon Mollymook Beach and the national park behind. Having been built in the 1960’s it was a traditional beach home and only a stone’s throw to the beach. We waited for Lynn’s arrival who was not far ... read more
