Well, the journey is about to begin! My last day of work is Monday, and my plane leaves on November first. Look out Europe, here I come!!! Having my new and GREATLY improved passport (and my plane ticket) make this trip finally feel reel. I will be moving to Dusseldorf, Germany for a year to be an Au Pair with a family. The kids are young, 1 & 3, girl and boy respectively... I don't know what to expect this time. This will be my third trip to Germany, but I've never been there for so long before. The last time I was there, I was near Regensberg in Bavaria. That time was only a month long stay, and it wasn't enough. That gives me comfort to know that I won't be wishing I were "back ... read more

THE AMERICAN ADVENTURE SOUTHWEST AND THE ARIZONA AND UTAH CANYONS On the 28th of September we farewelled the Grand Canyon and headed south to Flagstaff - a university town popular for skiing and the train crossroad town for Arizona on Route 66, where a train goes through about every 15 minutes, some being hauling 140 double levelled containers. We spent the weekend here getting topped up on our groceries and awaiting Corrie’s dentist appointment on the Monday morning to get the cap put back on that fell off just before Tracey’s wedding. During the weekend we visited Wupatki and Walnut Canyons and the Sunset Volcano crater. We also hiked the Elden and Buffalo mountains, enjoyed some time in the old historic part of Flagstaff and bought ourselves some NZ Merino wool Icebreaker tops and a ... read more

THE AMERICAN ADVENTURE ET LE WEDDING IN SANTA FE We eventually hit Trace and Marc’s about 4pm in the midst of tears, laughter and lots of screaming. In the coming hours we of course got to know Marc and his wonderful Moma and Popa and her gorgeous son Josh - enjoyed a beautiful BBQ dinner cooked by Trace as she plied us with wine in preparation for giving us our “duties list” for the coming days - I never knew Tracey could be so organised - it was most impressive. Revy became 3037B, parked outside T&M’s front door ,in a partially opened state, so we didn’t disturb the neighbours in their Cul de sac too much. In the 3 days preceding the wedding (which by the time the wedding came seemed more like 3 weeks) we ... read more

FROM “THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK” to “THE BIG AMERICAN ADVENTURE” “AND ALL THAT JAZZ” Well - hi there you all and a big gidday to all our great friends and wonderful family. Sorry there has been such along time between drinks, but when you get through reading these next few chapters of what The Bald and Blonde have been getting up to you will no doubt understand the delay. In short we’ve just been plain ol busy, having a damn good time in The wonderful US of A. Yes on the 18th August we departed Aus and after a 13-hour Qantas movie marathon, (best one being, “Fracture”, with Anthony Hopkins). Next day or the same date, we arrived across the other side of the world to LAX International airport. Checked in our Airport hotel, had a shower ... read more

Obfuscator writes: Day 48 was largely another driving day. We started out in Worthington, and really didn't stop until we got to Spring Valley, MN. We stopped there for lunch, and to take a look around a bit, since our family friend C hails from there. Spring Valley is a nice little town, and we ran into a lady who runs the historical society right on the main street, so she was helpful in directing us to the points of interest. She also told us that the place to eat lunch was Homestyle Pizza. We took her advice, and indeed, they had a very tasty buffet lunch that included good pizza, potato soup, and salad bar. The town also has a very pretty old Methodist Church that now houses the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, since she ... read more

Updated: Trips - activities 26th October. NB: I'm probably going to update it whenever I remember things - there's so much, trying to keep it short _______________________________________ Ok, so here it is - this site's server crashed early August and they lost everything I had uploaded - which i got pissed about. Recently checked and its all back so it's all good. I was in the Owls cabin which are the eldest (15-16) - my co-counselors were Terry and Laura who were married and had an adjoining cabin. Terry has been at camp for 20 years on and off over the years. It was Laura's first time to camp so whenever we needed advice we would just ask Terry which was handy. There is a book written about Kabeyun called Cabin Pressure by Josh Wolk. Names ... read more

This was my 4th visit to Paris but I had not been since August of 1996, so I was very excited! We drove up to Fort Wayne to catch our Northwest Airlink CRJ to Detroit. We had to sit in DTW for about 6 hours but at least it's a nice terminal to wait in. We happened to see on the news that a transit strike was occurring in Paris. Oh great, we thought! At 9:20 pm, Northwest 50 to Paris departed. The flight was smooth and routine.... read more

Sandra and I have had an eventful couple days and spent some time in numerous cities. While flying out to Sacramento we were only supposed to have a 2 hour layover in Chicago. However, we made a spur of the moment decision and took a voluntary bump and spend the night in Chicago. In return we received a free round trip ticket to use at any time with no blackout dates. The airline also put us up at the Hyatt Regency for the night in the executive wing and booked us on a 9am flight out of Chicago the next morning with an estimated arrival time into Sacramento at noon. We didn’t do much in Chicago but sleep, but it was a very comfortable sleep. The next morning we were off to Sacramento, oh another good ... read more
