Geo: 35.5261, -98.7072After another night of storms we woke to find that Saint Louis had been hit by a Tornado (lucky we were 3 hours west), it seems we have been outrunning them for quite a while now. We head back to the I40 and make our way to Tulsa. The weather starts to clear as we decide to do some more R66 and exit into Reno, here we drive quite a few miles on the historic route and pass the Fort Reno Gates. Back onto the I40, we exit again, drive some more historic road and pull up at Stroud where we were considering staying the night. Still to early in the day, we have lunch and head toward Oklahoma City and it is still raining. On taking another wrong exit we catch some traffic but ... read more

Balaam's Beast, our awesome wheels for the journey, acquired some new spark plugs and wires in Lynchburg, VA thanks to the great guys at Integrity Auto (www.integritywheels.com). However, there was still a slight miss (one of the cylinders in the engine doesn't fire) under idle that disappeared as soon as any load was put on the engine. When we broke camp in Arkansas the miss now also appeared at times under when in motion. As we progressed onto Oklahoma, the miss became more and more pronounced and we struggled to maintain the speed limit on each slight rise in the highway. By the time we were about 150 miles out it was clear that one cylinder was no longer firing. We called ahead and our brother-in-law was able to arrange a family technician to look at ... read more

Adventures in Tulsa The floor at George's place provided a much more restful night of sleep than any so far. To keep it in perspective, the 3 previous nights were spent 1)freezing 2)fearing a meth induced stabbing and 3)quietly pondering all the previous guests who had slept on Misty Matthew's musty old couch and what they may have left behind. With that noted, I'm not sure if the carpeted floor with a thin layer of dog hair covering it was particularly comfortable, but it was relatively so. We said thanks and bye to George, and hit the road for the 7-8 hour drive to Tulsa. The drive was pretty uneventful aside from Mike and I taking a nice lead in the Adam Rubs America Radio Contest. My Metallica pick and Mike's Foo Fighters were both ... read more

Enter Oklahoma. Suddenly trees are shorter, and the weather was very windy and very warm. We are loving each state with all its uniquenesses and adventures! Our best adventure in Oklahoma City was long conversations with our sister and brother-in-law and going to see their work, building projects, and the distinctions of the city. He grew up just a bit north in Guthrie, the original capital of Oklahoma and was able to really fill us in on many of the interesting history of this great State and city. Not only that, they also filled us with some really GREAT food! Excellent BBQ, tremendous breakfast, and an amazing Mexican lunch! However, Rob did underestimate the size of platters in the USA. Unable to decide one of us went for the sampler platter. It was HUGE … and ... read more

We were driving on route 40 out of Memphis, TN by 9:15am. And that was AFTER showering and breaky. We drove into Arkansas in no time--and it was FLAT. With the rain still falling, it was also flooded in areas. As we neared Ft. Smith small mountains and rolling hills could be seen. They weren't as stately as the Smoky Mother Mountains but they were a welcome diversion from FLAT. I sold one of my books at a gas station along the way. I met a really nice lady who is working two jobs, on her 2nd divorce and has had her own trials and tribulations. We motored into Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with Homer screaming at us to turn around. I'm not sure where he wanted to take us, but we followed the directions of the ... read more

Sadly we are back home, state side. I keep clicking my heels together hoping that when I open my eyes I will be back in Wales. I didn't think I'd miss Wales as much as I do. I think for the most part being home means back to school, back to work, back to my internship, and basically back to no free time. Wales was a dream come true. I needed this time away to in a way find myself and grow up. I definitely did a lot of that while I was there. I've learned that I don't have to talk to my mom 5 times a day, but my puppy has also taught me that I'm never allowed to leave her again. I'm good on flying for awhile at least long distances. I probably ... read more

We are home. In Oklahoma. 3,000 miles away from Swansea and Wales. Sadly. I miss it so much already. We barely had time for breakfast before we were on the plane and in the air. I’m so over flying. I took 4 sleeping pills and . . nothing. Everyone else fell asleep but I could not. I slept better in Wales. I sat next to a guy on the flight from Indiana University, He was wearing a Manchester United jersey so we were immediately friends. He told me he saw Fernando Torres in on of the night clubs in London. So jealous! I wish he had not slept the majority of the flight we could have talked more. We made it to D.C. and after a 2 hour layover a delay finally boarded the plane, only ... read more

Hello all! This is my first post of our "Media Production Tour" of Wales! I, and several other students from the University of Central Oklahoma are heading overseas to the UK to produce an informational video as well as create a facebook page and brochures for two nonprofit organizations in Swansea! For me this is the trip of a life time! I have never been out of the country before, and when my professor mentioned this trip to me back in the fall I knew I had to go! I have always wanted to visit England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales and now I actually am GOING! I still can't believe it. . My father's side of the family is Scots Irish, so getting to be this close to my ancestor's homeland is pretty amazing. I would ... read more

The Jitters Well, I'm doing my last load of laundry, nervous, anxious, excited. I'm not looking forward to the 24 hour travel time ahead of me. Luckly, a dear friend of mine hooked me up with a few Ambien to easy the pain. My goal is to try to update daily with uncensored, unsugar-coated travel experiences. Comments and encouragements are greatly appreciated. Love to all, Amy... read more
