Wow, this blog thing is pretty cool. I just discovered the place to read the comments that some of you have left. I've checked the personal messages but comments is different. Thanks to those of you who've taken the time. Today was a different kind of a day. Sue is doing much better, but still coughing and not quite readt to resume the pace. The boys were tired as well, so after trying to get them going for 2 hours, I realized I was on my own for the day. So I bought the unlimited subway card and was on my way. I hit every part of Broadway from the Brooklyn Bridge to 90th St. That included Canal St, Chinatown, City Hall, Delancy St, the East Village, Union Square, Grand Central, Bryant Park, Times Square, ... read more

Well, what started out as a real down kind of a day, picked up and really finished with some excitement. We awoke to realize that the bug that had been nagging at Sue had developed into pneumonia. We knew antibiotics were the only answer so we called Kaiser and they were no help at all. So cousin Judy came to the rescue from Michigan by calling her doctor and refilling her own perscriptions and we were able to pick them up within the hour and get started with the treatment. All this took most of the morning so we needed somthing close to home to do while Sue was convelescing. Since doing much running around was out of the question for today, Jesse, Ben and I walked one block west to Riverside Park where we located ... read more

Today was a lot more low key but unforgettable nontheless. We slept in in an attempt to shake off the jet lag and acclimate to the time zone while deciding what's next. That took most of the morning and early afternoon, but when we finally did get going everything was just beautiful. Just walking the 5 blocks from West End to Central Park West we past at least a half dozen community gardens, parks, a riding stable, and a grand old school. Once inside the park we walked around the reservoir, dodging joggers and marvelling at the serenity that can exist in the heart of such a crowded and busy city. When we got to the 5th Ave side it's called Museum Row with one after the other for as far as you can see. The ... read more

New York, New York! yay! had a day off so went on a day trip to New York - if your lucky you'll be getting a postcard sometime (arent i nice!) - i sent them away today! If you missed out, it was because you were 'the weakest link, goodbye!' haha! nah just kidding! (you'll get one one day, if i have your address!) New York was so cool! I loved it, but man, how nuts would it be to grow up in this city - its fully concrete! its so huge, everything just towers above you - auckland doesnt even compare. Spent the day just cruising around, wandering the street. Didnt use cabs or the subway to get around, just the good old waiwai express! (thats feet for those who dont know their maori!) was ... read more

Leaving NYC today. Stayed at my brother's place on the upper East side. Monday night we went out and had some german food and beer w/ John (whose last day at work is this Friday) and my brother. Yesterday Sherry and I ate at Red Bamboo, one of her favorite veggie restaurants. I had the soy chops and they were pretty darn good, like schnitzel. We then took a walk down through Soho and across the Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn Heights. Celebrity sightings yesterday: * The guy that plays the lead in 'Blind Justice', sorry no picture. Eating at Red Bamboo. * Reggie C, aka Mr. Move, again sorry no picture. Standing on a corner in Brooklyn. Reggie C is actually a friend of a friend of Sherry's. He's a self-described white booty rapper, and we ... read more

Day 9! Its my last day in New York! I can't believe I've made it this far alone! But before I head to Boston I stopped by the Intrepid Air & Space Museum to see some planes and submarines. Afterwards I dashed over to check out Ground Zero and it’s just a big empty space right now. It’s so weird to see it so empty and open. Its huge yet its so small. I can't quite describe it. I finally made it to the Amtrak station and luckily it was running late again so I was able to get on my train with ease and without having to rush. I headed to Boston and caught glimpses on Connecticut and Rhode Island beaches. I should take a driving tour sometime in the future. I kind of like ... read more

Day 8! I spent all day at The Metropolitan Museum. One could spend a whole week there though! There is so much to see and do. I started off in the Egyptian section and three hours later I realized I had been trying to read every single little info card and it was driving me crazy! So much Egyptian history! How much of it is just random crap? Still, it was nice to see. I've always had a fascination with mythology ever since I was young so it was great to see all these relics and historical crap. I also saw some armor I would fit in! Henry the VIII's armor was awesome and not that fat. I thought he'd be fatter. Still, it was cool seeing a molded belly instead of a molded six-pack one ... read more

Day 7 It’s been the most action packed day EVER! I started my morning with a fancy breakfast at a ritzy looking place and then took a walk through Central Park. The park is filled with plenty of nooks and crannies. My favorite place was visiting the Angel Fountain. Afterwards I went over to the Guggenheim where they didn't allow me to take pictures of any of the art but I saw plenty of Mapplethorp prints anyway! Then I headed over to the piers to take my cruise around Manhattan. It was a three-hour tour. I got to see the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge up close but the rest of the tour was sort of boring. Too much sun and after a while all the buildings start looking alike. Still the New York ... read more

I went all 'Great Romanticism Poet Movement of the 19-20th Century' with the title, though not meaning to. Basically, it means that I'm starting to tire of this little island. Not in the bad way, and when I say tire I don't exactly mean that I'm beginning to wish I wasn't here, but in fact it means my body is beginning to see the effects that the 24 hour lifestyle (And I'm talking the real 24 hours, not the Tesco is open 24 hours kind of lifestyle) is having on me. Being placed in front of mega enormous advertising signs and sitting in coffee shops with other regular people at any hour of the day is really difficult to get a hold of, and until now it has only been my adrenaline that has kept me ... read more
