Entry by Gemma. We have a few hours left in New York. Has been a fun-packed few days. Arrived thursday evening on the GreyHound bus. The journey was very comfortable, they even showed a film on the bus- DaddyDayCare, Dave read his book, but i enjoyed the film! Stayed at the Big Apple Hostel, location was brilliant-right off of Time Square, i couldnt believe it. I loved being in the middle of all the action. I loved Time Square at night, it had such a buzzing atmosphere with all the lights and the people. We went straight to the theatre where Chicago was showing and got bargain tickets for that night. So we grabbed some food, put our most dressiest outfits on (not very dressy) and hit the town. We absolutely loved it and havent stopped ... read more

From: fran the man Sent: Friday, 29 April 2005. To: everyone Subject: On My Way To London Well New York’s been lovely I’ve almost done it all, Empire state, statue of Liberty, MOMA, Guggenheim, Macys, Bloomingdales, etc not enough quality time at central park though nor have I been to the Met - will try tomorrow though. Am staying in a cool hostel with some cool people and some strange people. I went up the empire state building -no King Kong as he's in Wellington at the moment, It was rather windy but the views over New York were stunning. The Guggenheim had this wicked exhibition on by this artist with a fascination for stripes; he’s put coloured stripes all over the interior and the roof along with a big wall of mirrors. If you threw ... read more

I'm here in New York to visit my friend Ariela who I havn't seen in three years since we met in Peru. There will be no further mention of the Statue of Liberty, Staten Island, Times Square and Fifth Avenue as its already been seen and done. I ventured into Brooklyn. This area is a burough of New York and does have a reputation of being a immigrant and latino neighbourhood with some areas being extremely poor. Many Manhattaners won't venture across into this area which they consider somewhat of a suburb. It has a pretty comprehensive collection including art from the ancient city of Ninevah (the only other western museum to have reliefs is the British Museum in London). The feature on display was Basquiat, who was a famous graffiti turned real artist who then ... read more

Been trying to get a lot of motorcycle riding in before I sell my bikes and head around the world. Changed my plans from starting in South America to heading straight to Japan and heading West from there. This gives me more time to enjoy Asia, South East Asia and India before I have to meet my family in South Africa in January.... read more

...and oh yeah I just realised that the heading of my last post didn't make sense!!! So let me explain that first!!....Obsessions was referring to the amount of STATUES that the Americans(or the American Government at least), seem to idolise!! Especially in Philidelphia and DC!!! I was all statued out MAN!!! They put up statues of past presidents, generals, majors, seargents, celebrities!!!...and then they've got their memorials! Now some of the memorials are kinda cool!! But enough is enough!!.....But I digress!!! Anyways this will probably be my last posting from the good old USA....I leave the day after tommorrow for England! Well! Well! Well!!!! Yup it is just me again:-) Back in the mad crazy NYC, I've been back for a few days now:-) Since I've been back I did the Brooklyn Bridge (got yelled at by some crazy New Yorker for being in the bike lane while taking photos, but I don't care!), uumm what else did the Statue Of Liberty, although I didn't go inside it! You have to pay extra to go inside and who wants to pay $6 to walk up 100 steps!! Not me!!! Too lazy and it wasn't worth it!!! So I just walked around Liberty Island instead:-) The statue was cool to look at and its not as big as you might think...After that got the Circle Line to Ellis Island, which used to me Americas main immigration centre, now ... read more

Well yes!! Two in one day!!! Ok firstly its because I wanted to discuss politics and secondly there's a blizzard outside don't you know!! It started snowing at 12pm and it hasn't stopped!! Its almost 10pm!! Eck!!! In saying that I did manage to get two things done!! The American Museum Of Natural History...but not before I got myself lost again!! Well actually I got on the wrong train!! I was supposed to get on the B to 81st Street..but I waited and waited and no B came...so I got on the D thinking it would go past my stop...and it did go past my stop, right past my stop until I got to 125th Street!!!! Now many Americans have told me that its very unsafe for a white person to go past 100th Street and ... read more

... read more
