Tyre Burning Middle East » Lebanon » Baalbek
Well i arrived in Baalbek safe and sound and was introduced to a half Lebanese/half Italian Dr of Archeology in Baalbek making a model of the ruins. Unfortunatly he didnt speak any english and my Arabic and Italian are non existant. However he took me around the site of Baalbek and then got the police to drive us out to see "The Pregnant stone" - a huge block quarried for use in the temple complex of Baalbek but never used. I also got driven out to see a number of other ruins that are in the middle of nowhere really. Cool. [View Full Entry]

Well it was surely a good sign when told by the border gaurds in Jordan that I wasnt allowed to walk across the border, and was instead given a lift over in a canary yellow Mustang Charger. Mohammed Didnt go but I did My First day in Damascus unfortunatly happened to be a Friday, so almost everything was shut! I did manage to check out the Al Azeem Palace - after getting lost for at least an hour beforehand. Enjoyed the most amazing fresh mint Lemonade at the Leila Terrace restaurant. I checked out the Umayyad mosque - which used to [View Full Entry]

Umayad Mosque

Well after enduring the overnight bus ride from Cairo to Nuweiba (i nearly froze due to the over-enthusiastic aircon). I then spent all day waiting for a 1 hour ferry to Jordan. Was taken care of by a lovely Jordanian Girl who kept me entertained with pics of her family. The fact that neither of us could understand anything of that the other was saying still made for good conversation. On the boat over i got talking to Chris, an American who was teaching English at a Uni in Jordan, after spending over an hour and a half waiting for our [View Full Entry]

Luxor Arrived late in luxor and checked into a suitabley dodgy hotel. Went for a walk to orientate myself and quickly made myself an Egyptian friend. Alex or Ali to his egyptian friends - of which I was one (apparently) he brought me a random syrup dessert and took me to the government run papyrus shop - and because i had come without a guide everything in the shop was half price! Anyone who has ever been to an Arab country will know that any shop you ever go in to has a half price sale - for one day only [View Full Entry]

Ronscavalles 0km Caught the 6pm bus from Pamps to Ronscavalles. Me and the rest of the Pilgrims that is. Spied 2 others with bikes (sub sequentially I never saw them again). Signed up for my passport and spent the evening chatting away to a South African who was looking at living on the Camino next year, he was hoping to write a book so good luck to him. Also enjoyed my first Pilgrim meal, mmmmm Soup, fish and chips and some random dessert. Fortunately it also came with wine. Bilbao Well if the last few days are anything to go by my travelling mojo has well and truly run out and my Epic Camino Cycle Experimental Adventure is looking more and more Robert Falcoń Scott then Ed Hillary. On arrival into Bilbao I hauled myself and my Bike Bag (containing my bike of course) into town. I was able to leave said bike bag at a bar whilst i went off looking for a place to stay for the night. The abundance of "Completo" signs was a little disturbing. But i perservered in my search, 1 Star Pensions - Completo, [View Full Entry]

Hanging with Jace Europe » Italy » Marche » Ancona
Ancona Met up with my Flatmate Jace in Ancona, not a lot to do here really. Headed out to Sirolla which is a small beach town down the coast and spent the day at the beach doing absolutly nothing. Watched a group of Boy Scouts stoll past and off into the hills but that was about it. L'Aquilla Next day we headed inland to a random mountain called L'Aquilla. We had been planning on going from L'Aquilla into the mountains to take a walk and see a glacier, but we arrived to late to get there. Soooooo after being helped to [View Full Entry]

Acess Denyied Africa » Tunisia » Tunis
This is a story about my trip to Tunisia. After having said goodbye to Hel and Scott in Agrigento i made my way up the coast (via Selinute) to Trapani to catch my Ferry to Tunisia on the 4th. I meet up with 2 Aussie blokes on the boat (Henry & Andrew) and they were kind enough to lend me there guide book to Tunisia so i could suss out a plan of action when i got to Tunis. I was getting quite excited about all the things i was going to be able to see over the next week- Carthage, [View Full Entry]

Spartan Surroundings Europe » Greece » Thessaly » Meteora
Mycanae After a huge Boat, Train, Bus, Cab, Wait, Bus mission we managed to make it to Mycanae. Mum Nearly had a fit at some women in Corinth for giving us the wrong travel directions. But we made it. After spending nearly 24hours trapped in travel mode it was quite nice to take a stroll from new Tourist Mycane up to the old ruins. Washed clean by the thunder storm that we'd sat drinking beer through, it was at first sight a rather odd location for one of the greatest and wealthiest citys of the Homeric Age (Mycanae for the uninitiated [View Full Entry]

Knosses calling Europe » Greece » Crete » Knossos
Arrived in the middle of the night in Iraklio after a bumpy ferry ride from Mykonos. Managed to find a bed in a rather Seedy youth Hostel. Next morning i rocked up at the hotel i was meant to meet my folks at - turns out they had been on the same ferry as me from Naxos onwards. my mum was most surprised that i hadn't heard her on the ferry coughing and spulttering away with a cold she's picked up. She blames me for it of course. Spent the day at the Cretean Archeological museum admiring Minoan Pottery and Jewelery. [View Full Entry]
