The Barush family is embarking on it's first trip to New York since we became a family. We hope to connect with as many of our old friends and family members as we can while we're there as well as see as much as we can. This will hopefully keep everyone, who wants to see what we've been up to, apprised of our adventures. Hope you enjoy.

Hello again, As we near the end of our stay in Manhattan my access to internet may be limited so it's possible this will be my last entry until we get home. Our day yesterday was a full one and with the aid of ibuprofin and acetaminophen we made it through ok. Our meeting with Henry and Lynn and subsequent tour of Governor's Island was delightful. I discovered another part of this blog called galleries, so I put some of the pictures from this tour on it. We got back to Manhattan around 12:30 and got some lunch, then some italian ices, and said our goodbyes to our fellow Napkins. We did a little wandering around the tip of Manhattan seeing Fraunce's Tavern, Whitehall St, the South St Seaport, Fulton Market (I guess they took the ... read more

Hi Folks, This will have to be a short entry since now I am the sick one who is dragging around. We did hear from Henry and Lynn this morning and we are going to meet them tomorrow for a Governor's Island tour. We just got back, today, from Liberty and Ellis Islands and are waiting for a boyhood friend to meet us for dinner. Yesterday we did our run out to Queens where we started the day with treats from the Lemon Ice King of Corona. Then we walked through Flushing Meadows-Corona Park to Mt Hebron Cemetery where we looked up and found (finally) the graves of Cindy Noonans grandparents and uncle, as well as the great granparents of a high school friend of mine who lives in Benicia. I was ready to give up ... read more

Hello Everyone, Sorry I did not have an entry yesterday but I was wiped out when we got home. I thought I might have time to do it this morning but that didn't work out either. It was Jesse's birthday so we had to make it a special day. We got the unlimited 7-day subway passes for everyone so we could wander freely whereever the mood took us. We started out in Times Square just for the spectacle of it. It really is a different place than I remember from 35 years ago. It's more like Vegas with it's conspicuous excesses and who can outdo the next guy with the most flashy and glitzy facade. It was more suited to a family than the XXX themes of the past but it didn't really hold a lot ... read more

Today is easy to describe. We got up, had breakfast, went to the game, came home, ate dinner, watched TV and went to bed. Well, there was a little more to it than that. Sue is doing much better, but still not quite up speed. The cough is still persistant and the energy level drops off by late afternoon, but at least we're all getting out again. It was our first trip on the 7 train, the Flushing Line, so that was a real nostalgic trip for me. Imagine, we walk 2 blocks, get on the Broadway local, change at Times Square, and were buying our tickets within a half hour. Wish we could get to SBC that quick without having to park for $2.00 each. We bought our nose bleed seats and headed for the ... read more

Wow, this blog thing is pretty cool. I just discovered the place to read the comments that some of you have left. I've checked the personal messages but comments is different. Thanks to those of you who've taken the time. Today was a different kind of a day. Sue is doing much better, but still coughing and not quite readt to resume the pace. The boys were tired as well, so after trying to get them going for 2 hours, I realized I was on my own for the day. So I bought the unlimited subway card and was on my way. I hit every part of Broadway from the Brooklyn Bridge to 90th St. That included Canal St, Chinatown, City Hall, Delancy St, the East Village, Union Square, Grand Central, Bryant Park, Times Square, ... read more

Well, what started out as a real down kind of a day, picked up and really finished with some excitement. We awoke to realize that the bug that had been nagging at Sue had developed into pneumonia. We knew antibiotics were the only answer so we called Kaiser and they were no help at all. So cousin Judy came to the rescue from Michigan by calling her doctor and refilling her own perscriptions and we were able to pick them up within the hour and get started with the treatment. All this took most of the morning so we needed somthing close to home to do while Sue was convelescing. Since doing much running around was out of the question for today, Jesse, Ben and I walked one block west to Riverside Park where we located ... read more

Today was a lot more low key but unforgettable nontheless. We slept in in an attempt to shake off the jet lag and acclimate to the time zone while deciding what's next. That took most of the morning and early afternoon, but when we finally did get going everything was just beautiful. Just walking the 5 blocks from West End to Central Park West we past at least a half dozen community gardens, parks, a riding stable, and a grand old school. Once inside the park we walked around the reservoir, dodging joggers and marvelling at the serenity that can exist in the heart of such a crowded and busy city. When we got to the 5th Ave side it's called Museum Row with one after the other for as far as you can see. The ... read more

Hi Folks, Today's pace didn't let up much but at least we got to really sleep for the first time since Sunday night. It really lat now so I'll put off posting more pics until tomorrow but a brief recap of the day goes like this. Rise and shine to go over to Murray and Lore's for a fabulous breakfast of bagels, lox, sable, and fresh fruit. They were headed back to Pennsylvania so we wanted to see them before they left. Then Judy drove us to Queens where we visited the cemetery. I forgot all my info on where people are buried so we just saw our own grandparents but will have to go back to locate the others we were going to look for. Then we met Jason Hecht at his mom's on 137th ... read more
