Yay for my first blog entry!! I'm not used to blogging at all, so I figured I would get a head start :) So, I am SO excited about leaving tomorrow!! I guess it hasn't quite settled in that I'm leaving for 2 months yet, however I'm sure that will happen soon enough. The fact that its going to be chilly hasn't settled in yet, either. I looked up the weather in Liverpool for the first time, I think yesterday and the high is supposed to be around 63 degrees...and raining...for some reason it has been set in my mind that I was going to leave and it was automatically going to be "summer," therefore it was going to be warm and dry......wrooong. We had a lovely bon voyage cookout last night at the English household ... read more

Day Two/Tuesday,March 16, 2010 We left London at 8:30 and entered the USA at Sarnia/Port Huron and drove to La Porte, Indiana for a visit with Donna Hay Ludwig and Ed. We arrived at 3:30pm Indiana time. (we gained an hour) We were their guests at a lovely Country Club for dinner. Donna and I had breakfast to-gether on Wednesday and then we left for Chicago. Day Three/Wednesday, March 17 We arrived at the home of John and Patty Lehman shortly after the firemen had departed. John had put a corn beef on the stove to slow cook while they went to Aurora to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with son Shea at the local pub. Needless to say dinner was over cooked and the house full of smoke. (yes, there was smoke damage but not enough ... read more

Hotel Bowskill Mr and Mrs Bowskill put me up for ten days in their cat´s home. Sorry, I mean, in their lovely home. (They´ve got three cats with whom they are totally in love.) Their house is very nice and spacious and they´re doing lots to it. Plenty of room for visitors! Did I also mention that Dora is a wonderful cook (doesn´t tend to burn stuff any more)? In fact, as apparently is their wont, Dora and Phillip fed me loads of lovely gorgeous food until my pyjamas split. Indianapolis is not like anywhere I´ve ever been before, but apparently it´s quite common for the Mid-West (should that be hyphenated? Caps or no caps?) The downtown area which looks like a normal city seemed to be to be pretty small and it is surrounded firstly, ... read more

This is just a little blog to a) practise using this site, b) electronically start my trip in 2009 which seems to be advantageous somehow, and c) get my friends and family to subscribe to my blog now while they can still remember who I am. After a lovely send-off from Goga, Anna and Masha at passport control, I proceeded through Security. It went pretty quickly considering there was supposed to be extra security after the attempted bombing on a Christmas day transatlantic flight - or so I thought. I arrived at the gate in plenty of time...to queue for another hour. They performed pat-downs and bag searches on every single passenger. Behind me in the queue was the kind of American I had doubted existed, despite second-hand evidence to the contrary. He was large and ... read more

LOST MY PICTURES FOR THIS DAY.... STILL TRYING TO RECOVER THEM!! Over night while listening to the rain on the roof of the RV, I decided that our RV needed a name. I decided “The Ark” would be a good name. All it has done is rain since we left ---- thus the name. BEWARE of entertainment - there is a price to pay for it. IMHO ---- Indiana has the worst highways for traveling. I spent most of the day running around the RV closing doors and picking up fallen and dangling objects. I wanted to organize my pictures from the last few days, so I tried to work on the computer only to bounce around so much I locked up my keyboard. All it would type were squares....%$#&... The State of Indiana should ... read more

Hello all, and welcome to my travel blog. This is how I plan to stay connected to my friends and family while I am on my China adventure. As most if not all of you know, I am leaving for China early Friday morning and will return late Saturday night on October 31st (Halloween). I will spend 1 week in Nanjing doing the GK12 thing (I will tell you all about that later) and 2 weeks in Guangzhou doing the research thing (more about that later too.) I am totally new to this blogging thing, but I think that it will be a fun way to stay connected and everytime I encounter something strange or scary (for me like monkey brains on my plate with smiling faces starting at me waiting impatiently for me to eat ... read more

So, I am going to see my adviser tomorrow to get some information about study abroad. It is something I've always wanted to do, but now that it is upon me, I have to admit... I am a bit scared. I'll be leaving my entire support system back home, so if something should happen, I'd be on my own. I'll be in a foreign country, with limited knowledge of the language, and with extremely little to no knowledge of how to get where I'm going. It is a bit overwhelming. I've always thought of myself as very independent, a person who likes to be on her own a large majority of the time, and that is true. But, being so alone, without even a friend who knows my language, will be quite challenging. Plus, I'll be ... read more
