DRIVING MS BONNIE - Bonnie & Joe

Recently retired, now it's time for some "shoestring" non-exotic traveling

Before we begin our trip, I would like to say "Thanks to TravelBlog.org" for creating a venue that allows travelers to post their adventures for "FREE."

We got a GR8 deal on a Class A motorhome and soooo we are off to see some of God's country that we have never seen before. The first segment of our trip will start in Kansas and take us through Missouri and Illinois.

WISH US LUCK!!

So we decided one more stop was needed. Looked at the map and decided Stockton State Park in Missouri might be a good place to check out. Heading out ... it was like.... RAINING! Stockton is a nice lake. In addition to us, there were three other campers that decided to camp out. We took a short hike to the marina and around the lake. We headed home around noon and we are home now. Our trip in October was great and I'm thankful we did not have any major problems with the RV. I'm glad Joe is handy with figuring [View Full Entry]

We are heading out to the hometown of Mark Martin. This is Joe's favorite NASCAR driver. Our day in "The Ark" started with rain --- go figure. On the way to Arkansas, I spotted an amusing billboard. I made Joe stop so I could capture it with my camera. Mark Martin's museum was so impressive. We also drove to the track where Mark started his career in racing. FYI: My favorite driver is Clint Bowyer and his hometown is Emporia, Kansas. We might get to make a trip there some day. Mark Martin is a lot older and has been racing [View Full Entry]

Heading to Memphis --- more specific to an RV park around the casinos. We have seen enough (perhaps it's me) trees and hills. We expected to get to Memphis before night fall, because we were traveling the Interstate. Joke on us. After not one, but two delays we got to Memphis around 8:00pm. The positive side --- we weren't the cause of the delays. Thank God!! The casinos gladly took our money, but the fee for the RV park was very reasonable. Some of our RV neighbors spend eight months out of the year at the park. There is also a [View Full Entry]

Joe found another scenic drive for us to check out. Off we head to the next drive. This time on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Come to find out, once we found the entry, that this drive started where the Skyline ended. The weather was still unstable. It would rain and then the fog rolled in, but we decided to continue on. We decided to exit at Roanoke. That would make our drive 120 miles. By the time we reached our exit, the RV had overheated and Joe wanted to stop and let the engine cool down. The map of the parkway [View Full Entry]

Today we are headed out to drive the “Skyline Drive” in Virginia. The drive is one of many scenic drives that are listed in the Atlas we have been using for the trip. In spots, you can tell the trees have gone past the prime time for viewing the fall foliage. Then there are other spots that the trees look just right for viewing. By the time we arrived at the start of the drive the rain had stopped, but the skies were full of some heavy hitting clouds. That didn’t scare us off for the drive. We decided we would [View Full Entry]

These pictures were taken while traveling from Maine to Pennsylvania. The day we left we had a few minor problems. Joe had fixed the wiper blades and step, but the mud flap was put in the bin under the coach. Now there are two mud flaps in the bins. We also need to get a new tube that was carrying the hose to drain the tanks. The flap and tube were torn off backing the RV out to leave my aunt's house. We got kicked off of the Taconic State Parkway in New York. When we entered the road there was [View Full Entry]

This was the last day we went exploring in Maine. We wanted to visit the ocean one last time before we headed out to our next designation - The Great Smoky Mountains. We headed to Portland to see the head lighthouse on Cape Elizabeth. After we found the park we were greeted by four tour buses and wind that would blow your clothes off. After we spend time at Cape Elizabeth and Ft. Williams we headed down the coast. [View Full Entry]

This is the day we decided traveling and hanging out at places like this was not for us. We are going to come out of retirement and go back to work ----- NOT!!! Enjoy the view --- we sure did. Miss everyone but still having fun. [View Full Entry]

The next few days we spent driving around and just taking it all in. This is the best part of being retired. No pressure to meet a schedule. We took a trip into the mountains one day. We took a trip to Ft. Popham and Popham Beach one day. And we finished by taking one day to visit Cape Elizabeth and Old Orchard Beach. Once again pictures say a thousand words. Hope you enjoy the pictures as much I have enjoyed taking them. [View Full Entry]

What's up in Maine? Lots and lots of trees, water and back roads. I spent the morning visiting with my aunt. Joe spent the morning running around getting the necessary items to fix our problems with the RV. We then decided to head out to a couple of the Islands. Orrs and Bailey Islands is where my aunt used to live, so I wanted to show Joe. We stopped at Cook's Restaurant (for a beer) then headed around to different spots on the islands. Not much to say, so I'll let the pictures tell the story. [View Full Entry]
