So, I am technically writing this on the 7-hour plane ride home from Manchester to the dreaded Philadelphia. Still hasn’t completely set in that I’m not just going on another weekend holiday to some European somewhere…leaving Liverpool was definitely bitter sweet..it was raining pretty hard once we got to the airport so we all joked that England was about as sad as we are to leave, since it “was crying.” Haha.. The last week in Liverpool was definitely one I won’t forget..after getting notes and little warm and fuzzies from my students, it was definitely hard to say goodbye..especially since they were all asking when I was coming back to see them ☹ Woolton, the teachers, and the students there will definitely keep a special place in my heart…hopefully the students have learned half as much ... read more

I am actually SO bummed to be writing this blog right now...this means that this is my last full week in Liverpool teaching and then I am off to Italy! I'm almost out of time (and money!) and I am so, not ready to go! All of us here are in complete and total denial that this trip is about to end :( Time really does fly when you're having fun! But this past week teaching was such a blast :) Leaving my students is going to be so hard...they keep asking me when I'm going to come back and visit...its so weird to think that even though it has been sooo easy to travel here, it is going to be SO hard to ever come back :( The kids are almost as sad as we ... read more

Sorry its been awhile since written a blog! Last week was our first week of teaching and I have been super busy planning/writing lesson plans. My practicum has been a BLAST, but it is really getting me to think about what does and doesn't work for me when I become a teacher. I did my very first, actual lesson on Thursday...My teacher wanted me to do it on commas....not exactly the most exciting of topics. It was a liiiittle shaky for my first lesson...I thought I was introducing the purposes of commas, when it turns out they new a lot more than I thought..and I was called out by one of my students for putting a comma in an incorrect spot...they, apparently, don't use commas the same way we do back in the states....WOOPS! Sooo, that ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris June 9th 2010

To be completely honest, I started off with low expectations for Paris...it was definitely some place I wanted to go, but I wasn't expecting it to be as romantic and classic as it has been built up to be...I also got a little discouraged when we found out (like, 2 days before we left) that our hotel we booked was definitely not as safe as the website we booked it on said...it was right next to the Moulin Rouge, aka the red light district and would periodically have gun shots out of peoples windows.....not to mention we saw pictures and it looked like it had never been cleaned....needless to say we frantically changed our travel plans and booked a different hotel...it was more expensive, but there weren't many, not sketchy places left..so we just had to ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Greater London » London City June 7th 2010

Luckily, I wrote everything down in my tiny journal my mom gave me since I've been gone for a week haha...however, I'll try to keep it short and sweet since I always seem to write the longest entries ever! London was, of course, amazing, however it was different than I imagined..it is so much narrower, however that made it SO much cooler when you were riding through it on a double decker bus...which was SOO much fun! We visited Kensington Gardens...I'm convinced this is where I will someday find my future husband..haha...every man I saw either had an adorable dog to play with (btw ALL of the dogs here are not only well behaved but gorgeous!,) or was playing with one of his kids 3 Haha..I know...but it really was adorable. We have had a lovely weekend thus far...Again...saw some interesting things..lol..I definitely wish I could take pictures of the people around me in an inconspicuous way, because we saw sooome super cute outfits that I would have loved to share with my family and friends back at home haha......and fyi, English women who like to do the poof with their hair definitely go big or go home...like BEEHIVE big...yikes. We all decided to have a night on the town and the entire group, except one girl who was sick, went out to Fiveways Pub and then Pop World! Ohhh my goodness...a club totally dedicated to outdated pop stars of the nineties?? I think soo!!!! lol Loads of thirty and forty year olds, but still good fun.. haha And AWESOME long island iced tea! We danced to ... read more

My first week here isn't even over and I have already had some interesting adventures to say the least lol...met a lot of people, seen a lot of things...some a little more intense than others but still! It is for sure a different culture, however there is a big possibility that I may never want to leave :( just kidding...kind of.. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to write this, because I'm sure I'm going to forget some things, but there are quite a few things that stick out. I've taken a fair amount of naps in between seminars and meals STILL trying to get over jet lag...my body isn't havin it quite yet, then again I've gotten more sleep than some of the girls on our trip. First of all...I think I'm going ... read more

I honestly can't express the excitement I had earlier today when our plane landed in Manchester... I didn't know if we would ever actually make it here, and here we are!!! The plane ride did seem like forever though, and it was impossible to get comfortable :/ However once we got off the plane, it was smooth sailing :) After being transported by bus to our terminal, we went through probably the fastest customs known to mankind, which was awesome...after loading some vans to be transported to Liverpool, we kept gasping because we kept thinking our driver was driving on the wrong side of the road....wurrdurh. The people here have been so generous and kind since we have arrived here! Our host, Paul Cowell, took us out to the Caldwell Abbey Pub (which btw, has been ... read more

So, on the plane ride BACK to Indianapolis, I decided to document our adventure in Philly... 1. Flight to Manchester…CANCELLED….4 hours prior to leaving Indianapolis, yet they had us fly to Philly still. SIDENOTE Manchester’s airport reopened minutes after U.S. Airways cancelled our flight….best airline evveerrrr. 2. Had to wait in the LONGEST customer service line EVER…..then gave up and went to the ticket counter…. 3. Waited about 2 hours for assistance….was told we would fly out on Tuesday, however had to wait 30 minutes for confirmations… 4. (2 hours later) JUST KIDDING!!!! We’re leaving on Saturday…………another 2 hours later we finally got pink “Hotel Vouchers,” aka a pink piece of paper with a phone number to possibly find a hotel….grand total of 6 hours waiting on the hard tile floor without food 5. We go ... read more

Yay for my first blog entry!! I'm not used to blogging at all, so I figured I would get a head start :) So, I am SO excited about leaving tomorrow!! I guess it hasn't quite settled in that I'm leaving for 2 months yet, however I'm sure that will happen soon enough. The fact that its going to be chilly hasn't settled in yet, either. I looked up the weather in Liverpool for the first time, I think yesterday and the high is supposed to be around 63 degrees...and raining...for some reason it has been set in my mind that I was going to leave and it was automatically going to be "summer," therefore it was going to be warm and dry......wrooong. We had a lovely bon voyage cookout last night at the English household ... read more
