Greetings from Corydon Indiana, where the 50's never stopped. We are finally on our way after a fairly crazy summer. The from Virginia to here was uneventful, it rained most of the way. The only notable event was our brief stop in Roanoke to pick up Alec's wallet. Although he lost it in or around Warrenton, it some how made its way to Roanoke. Who knows. We are looking forward to seeing a good bit of the USA. I personally am very excited to be seeing the west coast. Other than a short stay in Seattle a few years ago I have no experience there. Today we are visiting Granny (McQuillen) and we just finished eating a delightful lunch of sliders from the ever memorable White Castle of Harold and Kumar fame. Tomorrow its on to ... read more

We have been at Camp Atterbury, IN since the 21st of August. Since our arrival we have gone through Soldier Readiness Processing (SRP) that covers everything from administrative records, medical, pay, and overall readiness for deployment. After that we worked in our assigned sections in Task Force Falcon HQ to support the seven Task Forces we support. Those Task Forces come from approx. 12 different states and equal about 1400 soldiers. We also train on various "Army" tasks so our skills are sharp and we are ready for "the worst day in Kosovo". Dallas and I don't see each other much since we work in different sections and have seperate barracks. Today we started 24 hour operations for a huge exercise to see how all our different parts work together. I drew the short stick and ... read more

Happy Labor Day weekend to you all! We had an interesting afternoon yesterday on our drive from Joliet to Kokomo, Indiana, where we are staying with Michelle & Kevin, Tom's sister and her husband. In Merrillville, IN we stopped at a candy factory, where we bought some goodies. I was enjoying some licorice taffy, and guess what? I lost one of my gold crowns. We called Michelle to get the number of her dentist. After several phone calls back and forth, I was able to get into the dentist's office, where he took an X-ray, checked out my tooth, and re-cemented my crown. How fortunate was that! Here it was, a Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend, and we were able to get it taken care of. That's one example of a how we've been blessed ... read more

What a Long Strange Trip it has been, and that's just "getting ready" for this road trip. Honestly it has been a blast tearing down and building back up my KZ-Gal getting her ready for the salt. Utilizing all the mechanical talents my Dad taught me over the years and turning a 33 year old piece of history into what should be a very safe and hopefully fast (for her) journey down the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats. So getting from torn down to built back up and now actually tucked inside her lil travel box :), special thanks to my Brothers in Arms (My Bro and My Neighbor) Mel & I are ready to tackle the open highway. Now we just gotta find out what state that World's Biggest Ball of Twine is located. We are ... read more

It was my last year of High School and looking to get myself that dream bike. I had been lusting after the new KZ 900 Kawasaki for about a year and now I was finally ready to buy. Well actually I "finally" got the unwilling nod from my parents to go out and "Kill Myself", so off I went. I ended up on a Honda 550 that year due to limited funds (dreams cost a lot) and admittedly I also had a mild case of intimidation of that KZ beast. Oh don't get me wrong, I was loving life on two wheels, and my last year of school was a blast. But I do remember always hearing that KZ900 sound in the distance wishing it was me. 31 years later, a little wiser and a lot ... read more

We arrived after a fairly normal flight, looking forward to meeting a big chunk of the Hart family and a brave Auntie Sandra and Cousin Kate were there to collect us despite the early hour! It was great to finally see them and Auntie Sandra still has a Brummie 'twang' mixed in with her American which was cool. after a quick bite to eat i headed for a nap while Matt and Kate had a gossip. Kate and Ryan's house is beautiful and the spare room was most welcome! Later on we met Ryan after he had been to work and Ashlyn too. Later that night we all headed over to Sandra and Mike's for dinner and to meet Mike, Zac and Joey and generally catch up and relax. Day 2 was Pottergate.. we went ... read more

As the moon rises on adventurous day 2, we shall remember this day as the day of friends, both old and new. We were lucky enough for an old pal, Deanna, to come back into our lives and join us in Millennium Park, Chicago for a delicious dinner and drinks. Our new friend, well that’s a whole story in itself…we were just exploring all that Indiana has to offer (corn and basketball goals on the side of barns and more corn) when we arrived at the Sun Aurora Resort. Along the dirt road, leading to the resort, several questionable characters were exiting the premises, but we continued forward. We passed a junk yard and cautiously approached a thick fence with a sign reading “Private Members Only- Inquiries Welcome.” Being the curious girls we are, we ... read more

Our membership campgrounds through "Thousand Trails" give us a feeling of "home." They are located throughout the U.S. We stopped at "Indian Lakes Thousand Trails" in Indiana on our way to a Winnebago Rally in July. It was just 50 miles from daughter Kathy so this was a bonus for us. We got reconnected with her and grandkids Taylor and Megan. We met up again with friends Kathy and Bruce. Played some pickleball and then Kathy cooked us a great dinner before they pulled out. Tom is getting major dental work done. He's had 3 appointments and looks forward to a few more. Fortunately we found a dental group with offices in Iowa and Arizona too. Thus, he can have some continuity to all the fix-ups. We know many people that go to Mexico for dental ... read more

Drove from home to Elkhart Indiana today 560 miles. Supposted to have been 8 hours, instead was 10. Made numerous fuel stops, wer're getting about 8-10 mpg. Trailer pulled like a dream, truck struggled a bit, maybe just a bit underpowerd, especially in mountains. Oh well, too late to worry now. Going through mountains in PA were slow, roads in PA are terrible. Once we got over the mountains in Ohio, smooth sailing. Driving along the highway in mid-west looks like driving down RT. 50 near Easton... Flat corn and bean fields. That's about it. ... read more
