In Fort Wayne, we boondocked at Cedar Creek Farm which was stocked with pumpkins, mums and apples for Halloween. We bought a cauliflower the size of your head. Dee and Wayne Johnson, missionaries we financially supported for decades, hosted us for dinner at their home. Before we left town the next morning, Safelite repaired a chip in our RV windshield in the westside Walmart parking lot.... read more

Ask about Fort Wayne Indiana and you'll be told its the 2nd largest city in Indiana. However, there's not much to do there...WRONG!! There are things to do enough to spend a weekend and explore this city 2 1/2 hours from Indianapolis. We went for our oldest son's basketball tournament and decided to stay overnight. I found a few money savings offers on Groupon that helped ease our pockets as we found things to do. The thing with this city is almost all things are too spread out so you need a car to explore. We went mini golf playing as family and the kids played games for tickets, they had go-carts to race as well. Its a small place but friendly. Naked Chopstix was close to the hotel so my daughter and I enjoyed some ... read more

Geo: 41.0755, -85.0991We began the day at 8:30 AM, 70 degrees and…yep…overcast skies that stayed with us most of the day, with a little rain tossed in for fun. This was another travel day. As the trip is winding down, and we have one eye on the finish line, it is getting more difficult to write anything interesting for this blog. But I am hanging in for anyone out there who is hanging in with me. Thanks for your support.Although the GPS wanted to turn us toward the east, we pointed the car to the south and continued down the coast of Lake Michigan. We drove through more small towns that seem to have been there forever and some seemed lost in time, but that is what makes them interesting. We made a stop in Charlevoix, ... read more

I stayed in Bluffton for a couple days, enough to hang out and catch up a little bit. Annie showed me around Bluffton’s campus, which I had never seen before. I watched the women’s soccer game against Goshen, and was quite impressed with Goshen’s team! Early on in the game Bluffton scored one goal and going into the second half the score was 1-0 Bluffton. Goshen pulled through with 4 goals that half, and won the game 4-1! I think I picked a great game to watch. This was Goshen’s first game of the season, and from what I saw everyone worked very well together including the new girls on the team. During the game I hung out with a few of Trisha’s friends that drove over to watch the game. Ben was included in this ... read more

We spent a week in our childhood hometown in Indiana, visiting family and old friends. Danielle's neice and nephews went canoeing with us one day, which was awesome. We wish we had brought a waterproof camera with us! We took two canoes, found a couple of rope swings, and had a great day in the sun. Paul worked on an old mustang a lot, which we had bought over Christmas to sell. It just needs a few minor repairs and it'll be in near perfect shape. Danielle went to a couple of soccer games that the same neices and nephews were in, and then mostly we just relaxed with friends. Also, Echo had a new friend to play with while we were there. Danielle's neice just got a Yorkie puppy named Bella, who only weighs 3 ... read more

A couple of weeks ago we picked up our soon-to-be European RV - an Itasca Navion. We had fun stocking it with cutlery, crockery, linens and other everyday necessities and will shortly do a couple of overnight stays to see what we missed. Overall, this seems to be a fun vehicle and fairly self-sufficient. It is built on the Dodge Sprinter chassis which is based on a Mercedes diesel engine with a five speed automatic gearbox. Drives pretty much like a car.... read more

"Let the world change you...and you can change the world." This is a quote from the movie "Los diarios motocicletas" (Motorcycle Diaries) that which I have chosen to, in a way, be the theme of my experience abroad. Mainly because this quote involuntarily pops up in my head whenever I am thinking of my travel abroad. This quote is so true. Everyone I know that has gone abroad assures me again and again that this will be a life-changing experience. I suppose that is what makes it so alluring, at least to me. I am constantly trying to decipher my life. I have set goals for myself in an attempt to decipher my life. I feel like going to Lima will be another place where I can find myself. This is something I try to encourage ... read more

In 20 days, I will be 4000 miles south of where I am sitting right now. I guess that really gives me an idea of the magnitude of our planet. When you're driving and 800 miles is 17 hour drive, you sigh impatiently just thinking about it. On the other hand, the world is so small, when you put into context. To us, the world is so large. To our galaxy, our planet is pathetic. To the universe, our galaxy is puny. I guess it's just amazing what God has created. That sounds cliché but by golly its true. There is everyone's science lesson for the day. I hate being anxious. I have anxiety. I get anxious all the time, and I bite my finger nails, tap drum beats, wildly bounce my leg up and down, ... read more

The title is funny. It's funny because I am anxiously awaiting my arrival in Peru. A country is a living, breathing thing though after all. Obviously, it lives and it breathes because of people. I read a book by Pope John Paul II called "Memory and Identity". It was the last book he published prior to his death. The book itself is a tough read. It's extremely philosophical and political. However, I rather like some of that occasionally. Back to the point, he (PJPII) notes that your home country is, in a sense, your mother. I just thought that applied here. I am feeling nervous/excited/anxious. I suppose that all of those emotions have similar effects on me physiologically. My stomach tightens up and begins to flutter. I have to close my eyes and inhale slowly and ... read more
