Budgeting has put a tight hold on Summer Vacations this year but I refuse to go down without a fight!! My solution? Lets "getty up" to the part of Texas that has the beaches!! Corpus Christi is the most well know beach area because of the mainy attractions such as the U.S Lexington Battleship and the State Aquarium, however the actual beach part runs very low on my score card. The sand is a bit on the rocky side and the waves are not the relaxing soft waves I have come to adore over my travels. If I was to give advice to other families I would not suggest you roll out the mats on this beach for swimming. The overall city looks runned down to poverty or neglect. However, the restaurants are pretty darn good ... read more
Coming up with fun things to do with your children on regular days can be a challenge. While watching the Foodnetwork channel I got an idea to see if any Candy factories or unique Candy stores was in our city. After searching the internet I came across the web page for the Candy Lounge. I must admit the colorful graphics of the page drew me in and the promise of 50 diffrent types of soda from diffrent places. How could that not be fun?! I wasn't sure how this was going to to over with my kids at first but I got my children excited talking about the place and showing them the web page. I discovered it was on the same street as the McNay Art Museum, easy location. When we arrived we were pleaseantly ... read more
Yes, I read the book! I was thrilled to find out my new neighbors wanted to see this show just as much as I did. They also had the hook ups for tickets since the worked at the Majestic theatre a few years back. We had corprate balcony seats. I guess that means you get access to the skylite lounge to order cocktails and a waitress comes around to your seat during the show. An intresting fact that my friend Leah shared was the very top balcony pushed to the very back of the theatre was used during segration times. There has been talk weather or not to allow the public to view the area but its off limits currently. I loved the decor inside, the large old wooden beams and german pup style lanterns. Elaborate ... read more
Since we have moved to our new destination in Texas, I have been wondering if I have given this country a fair chance with traveling destinations. Sometimes I feel a little guilty by always wanting to leave the country instead of exploring it I decided this year I was going to do just that not to mention traveling in my own home land during a recession is good for my budget and good for the economy ( I try to repeat this to myself alot lately!) So I bought a awesome book with pretty pictures of the hill country area that surrounds San Antonio and began plotting my destinations. First up to see is Fredericksburg TX. A little town that has German roots. I was skeptical about the info in the book comparing it to Europe ... read more
I once thought Sea world was an overpriced aquarium for fish but I was WRONG!! There is so much to do in this place. Rides for kids and Adults, A play ground of sorts, Feed and pet Dolphins, Imax Theathre, Aquariums, Budwieser house ( 2 Free beers for adults), All sorts of shows and a water park during the summer. It would be a very long day if you tried to do everything at once. Luckily we decided to get season passes which was an excellent idea by our neighbors. We got all of Nov/Dec 08 free along with being covered for 2009. I found myself being amazed more than the kids by the Shamu show, The Boluga Whales show was a take on Cirque de Sole and was really cool. Snacks can be pricey here ... read more
This seems to be the biggest event for fun in San Antonio thats done every year. This being our 1st time living in Texas decided to go check it out. I'm not into cattle but anything thats a new adventure is always fun for me, plus it gives me something to blog about. Since it was going to be an all day event we decided we would split the day up in two parts to give the kiddies a rest. That way we wouldn't suffer a melt down during the concert and rodeo show. Parking is where you get ripped off at $10.00 a pop. So $20.00 was for parking alone! Upon entering the carnival part you are greeted by the most beatiful artwork of outhouse's you have ever seen. Brilliant! Who could take a relief ... read more
This summer's traveling has been a little bit discouraging due to all the rain. However I have had one fun trip this summer to Namiseom Island. It was set up by the Hannam Village church. The guys got to go participate in paintball and the ladies went to the actual island itself which is about 2 hours by bus outside of Seoul. The island was full of trees and alot of things to do like a train ride around the small island by UNICEF, a pool, bicycling, Dr.fish, jet boats. Banana float rides and lots of artistic things on the island to see. We got drenched but still proceeded to take in everything to do. We had a blast even as our toes squeked with water in our shoes. My favorite was pedaling the 6 persons ... read more
Catching up on a back log entry because I just recieved the pictures from a friend. We had gone out that night just do get out and do something. Scott's coworker took us to the Rodeo Dr of Seoul. It was very cool to see all the western influences and how the Koreans standards of status revolves around name brand things made in America or for the Americans. That includes food and clothes! I was surprised to find Gelato here and even though it wasn't warm I couldn't pass it up! Its my favorite ice cream and I wish I could have had a scoop of every flavor! So much betterthan Cold stone chains in my opinion. We wentto a couple of little food anddrink places until we found the Fruit and Drink spot. It was ... read more
This Museum was everything but BORING, meaning even if your not into history stuff this is still a great museum to go see. Plus the price is amazing for what you see I paid 5,000 won for our party of 3 today. I thought it was going to be cheesy and i would have to beg my kids not to whine but I was wrong! We spent 3 hours in it and my kids still didn't want to leave! There is a ball museum there too for an addional fee but we decided to save that for another rainy day because it was 10,000 won a person. It would have been too much in one day. There was so much for them to intereact with, climb in, touch...they had a Navy ship display that you can ... read more
Winter months make it tiring to travel outside with the kids but time is not on our side. We have so much to still see in S.Korea!! We took a taxi allthe way up as it was cold and snowy. Notice the lack of color in the pictures, this is a typical of winter here. We definitly need to come back at night to see it lighted up! ... read more
