My husband's cousin has invited us to his house in Matteson, Illinois. We're excited about going because the kids will be able to see relatives they haven't seen in a long time. If you know me personally, you'd know I couldn't take my family to the state of Illinois without a few day trips to Chicago. My husband and I haven't been back here since we had children. When we came to visit his cousin in 1998, we only spent one day in Chicago. I had gotten us tickets to a taping of the Oprah show. After the taping we went shopping at Niketown and ate at Michael Jordan's restaurant (which I believe is out of business now). These days an Oprah taping is out of the question; she doesn't take guest members under 18, plus ... read more

After 2 dull days driving through Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois, we came to the end of our USA travels, back where we started 6 weeks before in Chicago. We were tired, sweaty and very happy after driving 11,000 miles, seeing some incredible sights and getting a really good taste for life in this great country. Approaching Chicago from the West, across seemingly endless plains, we became aware of a huge and stunning city rising majestically from the horizon. The massive Sears Tower (443m / 1454ft) is surrounded by equally beautiful, if smaller, buildings. The city has always prided itself on incredible architecture and even invented the steel framed skyscraper. To the East, the city is bordered by the turqouis, placid waters of Lake Michigan. In summer, this lake and the long line of beaches that ... read more

I woke up sad this morning. It was my last day on foreign soil. I woke up, called a cab, grabbed a quick breakfast, then said goodbye to the hotel. James and I shared a quick cab ride, then met a bus that took us directly to the airport. We sat and reminisced about the trip, and laughed until we got to the airport. He, like many others on the trip, is extending his holiday. Nick, Phil, Lyn, George, Rios, and the Italian boys are going to the Greek Islands. There are others on the trip who are going to be gone for months more! I wish I could travel longer! I don’t really miss much about home. Sure I miss my family, a few friends, and my dog. But, nothing much beyond that. When I ... read more

Terryn Honeycutt Chicago While this trip happened last summer, I thought it might help someone out there wanting to experience The Windy City. The whole decision was based on wanting to see a Chicago Cubs game. So I starting to research and found I wanted to do so much more! I first found that the Field Museum was having a Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibit, and knew I had to see it. The process was easy, the Field Museum offers a very helpful website in which you can pre order tickets, quick and easy! This really helps cut down on waiting times once you get there. The museum has many other exhibits that cater to not only kids, but adults as well. The year round Egyptology exhibit was phenomenal. (www.fieldmuseum.org) I ... read more

From the moment the idea of going to Lollapalooza (one of the biggest music festivals in the US) was floated between myself and fellow music fans Matt Dunshea and Raggedy Andy Tam months earlier, I knew that I couldn't resist being there rain, hail or shine, and with or without company. As it turned out, circumstances conspired against us and it was without company that I flew into Chicago on the Wednesday before the 3 day weekend festival. By happy coincidence a mate from home, Ryan Bowland, had driven into town the same day, so we headed out to see what was happening on the north side of Chicago. As we swapped stories of our travels, I couldn't help but be amazed by his schedule over the previous few months. He had driven coast to coast ... read more

Chicago is one of the most amazing cities I have ever had the privilege to visit. We went to the windy city for the wedding of our close friends Adam and Ashlyn and made a whole weekend of the trip. We arrived early Friday morning and spent the day exploring the city by foot - primarily Michigan Avenue. We drove in via Lake Shore Drive and it was absolutely beautiful. I have never really given my Chicago pals credit for the beachy atmosphere of the lake, but it is pretty big. Still not an ocean - but I will give it beach credit nonetheless. Michigan Avenue was amazing. Axel had to physically restrain me in the Chanel store. I'm shocked that he didn't take away my credit cards before we went through the doors. I could ... read more

And the journey home begins. As much as we hate to say it we both were looking forward to being back in Evanston even if it was only for a few days. Ok well maybe we were more excited to be starting our new life in LA. We have had an amazing adventure that will never get to do again. I cannot begin to describe what and amazing experience this was and we will never forget it, but before we look back we still need to get our butts home. Before we even began our journey home we were delayed! Yep that's right we check the time for our first flight and it was delayed 3 hours. Seriously we cannot remember a time when we've flown that they posted a delay 4 hours in advance. The ... read more
