Scotland - The Beginning of the End …. By Miss Wendy O A little tired, a little jaded, and a little over it, our last leg of our adventure feels like the end of our hard travelling as we return home to Scotland. But rest we don’t, as although not a culture shock (apart from the return of the original chip supper and excessive drinking yippee), we have many things to do, places to explore and family and friends to visit. A return to our homeland wasn’t initially on our itinerary but this quickly changed when Lorraine and Jonathan announced their [View Full Entry]

Orkney, a group of stunningly beautiful, barren and mystical islands off the North coast of Scotland was our destination to visit some more far flung family members. The islands fill the visitor with a real sense of history, there were civilisations here 2000 years before the birth of Christ and it was a popular destination for the scariest of invaders, the Vikings. The resulting culture is kind of Scottish with more than a hint of Norse thrown in for good measure. Scattered around the islands are incredible remnants of all the different periods of life on Orkney; ancient dwellings, spook [View Full Entry]

Missus Lorraine Dunbar By Miss Wendy O The Hen Night Dream Boyz, pink fluffy handcuffs and a dancing pole …. But enough about the stag night, the hen event was a much classier affair. In the afternoon, Lauren, Helen, Erin, Lorraine and I took off to Dunfermline for a spot of water-skiing. Of course a bottle of champagne was in order to prepare us for the cold icy waters on this drizzly Scottish afternoon. The Hen was first up and got to her feet before swallowing half the murky loch and retiring. I had a go wakeboarding, which was heaps of [View Full Entry]

Ciao Bella, Buon Giorno Italia. Being European explorers, Stuart, my wee sis Laura and I took off to Italy for a 10 day adventure. It was great to turtle up and I soon got into the swing of travelling again, armed with our Italian phrasebook and an appetite for the best pizzas in the world. Reunion with FiFi The main reason for our trip to Italy was to catch up with my good friend Fiona and the lovely Vito. I hadn’t seen Fiona in over 4 years so was well excited. Fiona and I used to work together in Peterborough at [View Full Entry]

If there is one word to sum up Roma it would be magical. Upon arriving in the city, we took a quiet stroll and within 5 minutes from leaving our hostel we were standing outside the Colosseum. Wow. We walked around the outskirts of the ancient Roman ruin as the sun was setting behind us. Beautiful. It’s unbelievable how well preserved this 14AD stadium is. You can almost feel the gladiator aggression and the crowds cheering as you walk around this ancient arena. Then we took a leisurely stroll through piazza’s, cute Italian backstreets, across the Tevere River to Trastevere fo [View Full Entry]

Having the privilege of avoiding any 'real life' responsibilities (read jobs), one thing we really wanted to do was spend some quality time with friends and family during our trip to Europe. First stop .. a return to Hendrix's birthplace, Belgium. My big brother Gordon and his partner Ingrid live in a cute wee village called Wakkerzeel, just outside Leuven (famous for being the home of Stella Artois) and within an hour of Brussels. With mile upon mile of green, flat farmland and quaint old villages with stereotypical wee pubs and shops it oozes tranquility and has a sweet country communit [View Full Entry]

aka The Bug, the cutest kid in Chicago
After 2 dull days driving through Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois, we came to the end of our USA travels, back where we started 6 weeks before in Chicago. We were tired, sweaty and very happy after driving 11,000 miles, seeing some incredible sights and getting a really good taste for life in this great country. Approaching Chicago from the West, across seemingly endless plains, we became aware of a huge and stunning city rising majestically from the horizon. The massive Sears Tower (443m / 1454ft) is surrounded by equally beautiful, if smaller, buildings. The city has always prided i [View Full Entry]

Nevada, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Utah Nevada and Las Vegas From Yosemite we entered the blistering state of Nevada and started our travels through the deserts of South Western USA. It seemed to take us forever to make it through the parched Nevada landscape to the outskirts of Las Vegas. We passed the famous Death Valley on the way. The road to Las Vegas passes through an incredible collage of desert vistas, we saw dust storms and mirages, desert yuccas and cactuses and occasional scary settlements clinging onto tiny patches of green grass, breeding gangs of wrecked cars.
