Geo: 30.4208, -87.2172Today was beach day. We headed out to Santa Rosa Island, enjoyed the sun, sand and water which was warm enough to swim in comfortably. Then it was back into town to change and have dinner at the Oarhouse restaurant - a well known local restaurant where again we enjoyed some great seafood.... read more

Geo: 30.4208, -87.2172We timed our trip to coincide with the Blue Angels Air Show which is held only 2 days a week. It was quite a show starting with Fat Albert which is capable of very short take-offs and landings. Next came the actual show with the Blue Angels who fly F-18's. It was a very impressive show. Lots of acrobatics and low level flypasts. We then toured the indoor and outdoor exhibits. The aircraft date back to WW1 and have been restored by service volunteers - many of them retired. The Air Museum was very impressive and we also took a bus tour of the outside planes. The tour guide was quite a character and had lots of stories to tell about many of the aircraft some of which had been retrieved from Lake Michigan. ... read more

Geo: 30.4208, -87.2172Today is our final day on the road. Starting from Panama City we stayed along the coast. Much of the area is very built up with low and high rise condos, townhouses and shopping areas. Definitely a haven for tourists. We did discover one older area which had a smaller beach community type of atmosphere. It is likely the homes on the beach in that area had been destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Newer homes had been built nearer the shore and were built on stilts like others we had seen before. We arrived in Pensecola which is a very old settlement. It is the first to be settled in America by the Spaniards. The neighbourhood that Bill & Debi live in is known as North Hill and there are many older well ... read more

10am: Sanak and I want to make use of the complimentary breakfast today. The gujju in me wants to extract full value for the money I am paying and Sanak doesnt need an excuse to eat anyway. Learnt how to make a waffle today 12noon: We head out to see Savannah. About Savannah: Savannah is often referred to as the first planned city in US and the prettiest city in US. And its easy to see why. Plenty of quaint old buildings and cobblestone streets right out of story books over here. Lots of interesting stuff here for those interested in history and architecture. Landmarks include one of the oldest African Baptist churches in US, one of the oldest synagogues, St. John's Cathedral etc. The downtown area is one of the largest designated National Historic ... read more

We were really tired. We took a while to leave the hotel room. When we finally left, we went to the National museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola. Amazing museum... lots of aircarfts from all the wars that the US has been in. As a guide told me, they receive damaged aircrafts or found in the ocean or found in some wierd place from wars as early as world war I, Vietnan or Korea, even from Iraque on a daily basis. But they don't keep them. They restore them and send them to museums all over the world. We didn't really stop to see the beach area, but from my window it looked gorgeous. After the museum Terry tried to fix some stuff on the trailer and that took forever but we drove a little bit ... read more

From Tallahassee we headed south to the coastal roads. There is so much of northern Florida that we've not seen in the years that we have lived here, so we decided to take our time and follow the "scenic" route through the panhandle. Frank is doing all the driving and I'm doing the navigating, photography, log keeping, garmin programing etc. That's keeping me mighty busy I might add. We've passed through the Apalachicola National Forest, and have actually seen a few hills (Florida is very flat down in the southern parts). The back roads are definitely slower but so much more interesting. We came across a field full of old very rusty cars which according to a lady at the local library, had been placed there as someones "artistic expression". If you're heading south on Highway ... read more

Pensacola to Orlando - 33°c Pardon the lack of content in today’s blog, but today was one of the least active and least interesting days of the tour. It was the day with the most travelling and most miles covered so far, with nearly 11 hours on the road (including a one hour lunch stop and a few quick rest stops), right the way down the centre of the sunshine state of Florida, from Pensacola to Orlando. After waking up around 7:15am, we left our Pensacola hotel at 7:45am and started our trip to the fun capital of the world! In between our stop for lunch in Tallahassee and one of our rest stops in Gainesville, I managed to catch up with some sleep on the coach whilst several of the others watched ‘Pirates of the ... read more

7.45 Bags to Coach! Had a bit of a sleep, stopped at a truck stop... nothing exciting there. We had another stop at Tallahassee, the capital of Florida, and another at Gainesville, where we went into a Target! Target in the US is more like a Big W... It all looks like Big W... plus they sell food and ice cream too. Some where along the way we were stuck in traffic for AGES! Standing still on this freeway... not so fun. We finally got closer and saw all these blue lights, realised it was an accident. Everyone was looking out the bus as we went past, as you do coz we're all sticky beaks... Then we all saw a body bag... It was fairly horrible... the smash looked pretty bad... So that put a pretty ... read more

Temp: 38°C - very humid We got abit of a sleep in today, bags to coach wasnt until 9;00am. We jumped on the bus and headed for Pensacola, Florida. It was planned we'd have a day at the beach.. unfortunately for us, the storm that has been following us across the country continued to stalk us. We got off the bus and headed for the water, only to be told about 10minutes later that we must get off the beach and head for cover as there was lightening around, apparently 'the water isnt the safest place to be in a storm”, who knew?! So we spent the next 2 hrs over at the shops, having a walk round and some lunch. It looked like the storm has cleared abit so we tried our luck again at ... read more
