As we moved from Carrabelle Beach we drove up to 10 and turned left, we are now moving West. Even though it still feels like we are on an extended vacation we are starting to ease our way toward the Left Coast. Blue Angel Campground is quite, away from town and just magnificent. It's a short drive to the city if you need anything but far enough away to be in a country setting. The sites are well spaced on flat concreate pads and we can understand why so many people spend the winter here. We have done two trips this week, the first to the Naval Aviation History Museum. We spent the whole day there and only saw half of the exhibits so we are going back this week to see the rest. They have ... read more

Well, its that time again... vacation time. This year we are touring Scotland and parts of Europe, including the Rhine River in Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium. By the time you read this we should be at the airport waiting for our first flight. Since we don't get to Dublin until Saturday morning, and then have to fly to Edinburgh, it will probably be Saturday night before I can add the next post. I'll try to do a better job of writing these blogs and still keep enough facts in them to be of help to fellow travelers. "... and I'll be in Scotland afore ye".... read more

While we are staying here in Foley, AL we decided that we weren't too far from Pensacola so we decided to drive down there to see the Naval Museum. It was about a 45 minute drive from here. It was nice and scenic traveling down the coast. It rained most of the night and most of the day so it was a very dreary day. There weren't any people out on the beaches but when we got to the museum we found out where they all had gone! The parking lot was packed. The museum is very spread out so it didn't feel like it was full. It is a very interesting place with plenty to see. I guess the Blue Angels fly on Mondays and Tuesdays and some Wednesdays weather permitting. Too bad we couldn't ... read more

Well, its time for vacation. This year we are travelling in Portugal and Spain. We'll fly into Lisbon, spend a few day there, then a few days in each of 3 very interesting places in Portugal, including Porto de Mos/Alvados, Vila Nova de Foz Coa, and finally to Monsanto for our 40th wedding anniversary. After that, we turn our rental car in back in Lisbon, then take an overnight bus to Seville, then another bus to Granada. After a couple of days in Granada, we travel to my wife's hometown of Chipiona for about a week. I hope you all will enjoy this vacation as much as we hope to.... read more

Jan. 23. We crossed the border into Mississippi and immediately headed for the Visitors Center to get information about the area. It turned out the Infinity Science Center, a NASA museum was right there. We decided to stop in as we love museums and science centers. It turned out to be a very interesting place. We had it pretty much to ourselves (that seems to be the story of this trip) and the people there had lots of time to spend with us. We ended up talking to a man named John Crouch for a long time. It turned out that Mr. Crouch had worked on the Saturn rockets and developed a transporter for the external fuel tank. He had many interesting stories to tell. Funny thing... as we were leaving, we saw Mr. Crouch and ... read more

Geo: 30.4208, -87.2172Well, here we go again. With Poinciana once again in our rear-view mirror, we hit the road for a 2 week trip, with Texas in our sights. We had an early start this morning. I opted for hitting the road after the rush hour traffic, but I was out voted by one…not sure how that happens…and we were up at 6 AM and on the road by 7 AM. Despite early morning traffic through the Kissimmee bottleneck, we managed to get to the turnpike in about 50 minutes, and off we went. Texas…why Texas. Well, the last time we drove through that state we were on our way to Paso Robles in 2012. And in my blog I remember stating that I will never think of Texas the same way again. Despite what many ... read more

Second Day – June 28 After a good night’s rest we joined Sharon, who graciously shared her house with us, for some morning refreshments and congenial conversation before heading out to meet our friend Jeremy for breakfast. Today’s plan was to drive from Atlanta to Pensacola. The trip covers roughly 350 miles. We met Jeremy in Norcross, GA (a northern suburb of Atlanta) at a local chain restaurant called the Flying Biscuit. They offered a unique breakfast menu and Jeremy, Jill, and I enjoyed our breakfast. Chatting with Jeremy for an hour or so we caught each other up on what was going on in our lives and vowed that we would try to get together again sooner rather than later. Before saying our final good byes, we enlisted Jeremy’s help for finding a ... read more

Costa Rica 2013: Day 16: On Our Way Home: Well, we got up at 4:30am to get our ride to the airport at 5am. After paying our exit fee of $29 each to leave costa Rica, we boarded our Delta flight to Atlanta, almost an hour late. Fortunately, we'd left a couple ours of layover in Atlanta before our flight to Pensacola, so we didn't have to rush to the next flight. The flight to Pensacola was pretty much full, with a lot of new Sailors that just graduated from Great Lakes and were on their way to Pensacola for aviation-related A schools. We arrived safe and sound in Pensacola and were picked up by our oldest daughter Monica and grandson Kevin. It was great to be back home. Our trip to Costa Rica was a ... read more

3/25/13 PM Kona found her first cactus with her left rear paw. Pricked her good and a few spines remained in her pad. We did our best with tweezers, the salt water will help, we'll keep an eye on the pooch, but she's a tough broad. Slept in the van for third night. 3/26/13 Day two on Pensacola Beach in Florida. A long narrow peninsula with rolling sand dunes, creamy white sand & aqua waters, high warm sun and a consistent 5-10mph wind with a mean chill. Low 40's in AM. 55-60 during the day. We are across the bay from a Navy base home to the Blue Angles. 8:30AM they were screaming across the sky directly above us, 'Practice Session' ; practice again tomorrow at 8:30 and this time ill be on the sands getting ... read more
