The night at Golden Isles was uneventful, other than being awakened by the garbage truck at 5:15 but I was quickly back to sleep. Breaking camp was easy, just one plug and gone. The new heater kept the rig warm all night long, perhaps too warm. I wanted to get to Blue Spring early in the day; therefore, I didn’t stop at the outlets in St. Augustine that I really was going to do this year. Instead I drove the fastest route, around Jacksonville to the east, seeing the twin nuclear reactor towers and a cruise ship. Both surprising me in Jacksonville. Blue Spring is one of my favorite State Parks. Home to the manatees in the winter. In years past I have adopted a manatee here for my sons and son in law for Father’s ... read more

The one about being a Loner on Wheels. Olde Mill Stream RV Resort is one of the few campgrounds calling itself a resort that in my mind truly is a resort. It has nice large campsites, neat motorhomes, 5th wheels and large travel trailers and large campsites, a lake, a boat launch, pool, yadda, yadda, yadda. ultra clean restrooms, visible security and seems like a lot of activities. They also have a rally area, which is an open field with water and sewer hookups and a beautiful rec hall just for our use. The rec hall has a full kitchen, showers and toilets, and a large room for cards, dancing, or just casual conversation, with a big TV with lots of cable channels. Most importantly, there is excellent wifi throughout the park. I met up with ... read more

Saturday February 9, 2013 Old Mill Stream RV Resort Umatilla FL The One About “I HAVE HAD IT WITH ANTS!!” We have a name. It is Moya. My 3 names were down to Katwinn, Serenity and Moya, and Moya won. Moya is the living being starship in one of my all time favorite TV scifi shows, Farscape (starring that hunky Ben Browder). Moya was a Leviathan, an organic space ship who helped protect those who rescued her from a job she did not want to be doing. She was also a mother. Moya covers several of the things I was looking for in a name, something Irish sounding and something that means something to me. Thanks all for your suggestions, and it was all those suggestions who led me down this path to finding the right ... read more

Wash Day There was breakfast with the group this morning then a business meeting of the Florida Mid Lows. With all persons attending it was a formal meeting and they covered lots of topics. I put my $10 in to join the group so I know when the meetings are in the winter so I can join them whenever possible. This is a lively bunch and fun to be with. After breakfast Kat asked me what I was going to do for the rest of the morning and since I didn’t have anything planned she asked if I wanted to do wash. Well it so happened that I did have a big bag full so we loaded our stuff in the car and went across the street to the Laundromat. We each took 2 washers, got ... read more

Up early on Friday to preheat the oven. The breakfast casserole was a big hit; I made 2 large and one small (the small was 9x13!!) trays and I think this group would have eaten twice as much if it was there. At 10:30 most of the group took a picnic lunch trip to nearby Alexander Springs County Park. I opted to stay at the campground and give Winston a break, and myself one as well. I washed the front of my rig, cleaned a little inside, crocheted in the sun, took him to the dog park again, and had a nice peaceful day doing nothing. I had a short hose stowed in a plastic 3 drawer rack. When I got the hose out of the ‘basement’ it was covered in ants. Do they ever go ... read more

Taking Flight Breakfast this morning at 8:30 so the least I could do is be there on time. Kat made a delicious casserole with bacon, eggs and cheese and all 25 of us really enjoyed it. I was signed up to go on a trip to a state park not far from here but I didn’t have a great night’s sleep and I have been tired so I thought I’d stay home, clean the inside of the camper and just take it easy. The day was hot and sunny so I put up the awning for shade and was inside when all of a sudden there was a gust of wind and the awning was flopping around like crazy. I went out and knew something was wrong. It turned out that the wind had bent the ... read more

It is always bittersweet to leave Valerie and Bill’s lovely home. It is good catching up with them, eating great food, doing fun stuff, sleeping in a level bed, using a HUGE shower, and being in a dog friendly environment, but more adventures wait for me just down the road, around the next corner. I was on the road before 9 with 2 MUST stops on my list. Radio Shack to buy the ipod to radio connection cord and groceries. If no radio shack, then Wal-Mart. I traveled over roads I have been on before, north and east waving at Maureen as I passed Holiday, then to I75 past Bushnel, waving to Judy C and Trena at Florilow Oaks. I easily found a Radio Shack in a strip mall. This was something new for me and ... read more

Friday February 24, 2012 and Saturday February 25, 2012 A heat wave Friday. I had the windows open to sleep Thursday night and it was still hot. Neighbor Nanette took me in her BIG CHEVY PICKUP TRUCK to Walmart and a few thrift stores. It was nice to get out. She and her husband, Clair, spend most of the year in their 5th wheel. They winter in FL and summer mostly at their campsite in MI, but travel all over to meet up with friends. They sure have helped me meet people here and include me in all their events. Very nice people. Once back at the rig, I knew Winston had been barking a lot, confirmed by neighbors who knew I would be back very soon and didn’t mind. It was so hot I had ... read more

Thursday February 23, 2012 Another beautiful day here in FL. A little Windy today, but otherwise gorgeous. All were talking about last night’s rain. No one suffered any damage, but lots of water everywhere. Thursday’s is Flea Market at the Lake County Fair Grounds, right next door to this ‘resort’. There is even a gate in the bordering fence which gets opened on flea market days so you don’t have to walk around. Me and my S & K rolling bag were there at 8:15. It was quite different and much smaller than the other flea markets I have been to here. There were 2 indoor buildings, and 4 long rows of vendors outside. Too bad I was there at 8:00 in the morning, if I had known there was going to be so much good ... read more

Wednesday February 22, 2012 A beautiful day here at Southern Palms. Didn’t do much of anything, crochet, catch up on Farmville, and took lots of walks. My neighbors are all lovely people. Winston actually played with little Daisy from the rig behind me. He let her jump all over him, then he jumped on her and they rolled on the ground together. I knew he had it in him. Her owner, whose name I have forgotten, says Daisy sits on the back of their couch looking out the window whining at Winston, all she wants to do is play with him. Next door neighbors Al & Sue are interesting people. They are from Michigan and travel about 6 months a year, 4 here in FL and the one month before and one month after they see ... read more
