Travels with (A) Snowbird(s) May 2012 Wilmington, NC to Kingsland, GA. Thanks to Laurie Dalton. She reminded me I should be blogging on this road trip. I have a few hours before sleep, a good internet connection, lots of good TV to watch, a DQ Blizzard by my side and I am ready to go. I am on a non RV road trip to a family wedding in Clearwater Beach, FL. The daughter, Audrey Schade, of my cousin thru (ex) marriage, Valerie Hornell Schade, is getting married on Saturday, and I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation. My readers might remember that I visit Valerie each year when on my winter Snowbird trip. Weather permitting, the ceremony will be on the beach. I am looking forward to some quality beach time and/or pool time, as ... read more

Wednesday March 7, 2012 Myrtle Beach SC Travel Park My last Snowbird Day. L Bittersweet. I am ready to go home, but I love my life on the road. I am ready for a shower where I can stretch out and a bed that I don’t have to make up every night and take down in the morning, and a little more room for me and Winston, but I love my life on the road. But, I did some reality/budget checking, and it’s time to go home, but I love my life on the road. Up at 6:15 to see the sunrise again, and I didn’t. It was cloudy and remained cloudy all day. Warm, breeze out of the south, but cloudy. I had a great long walk with Winston and found a few good shells, ... read more

Monday March 5, 2012 Huntington Beach SC SP to Myrtle Beach Travel Park, SC Windy Windy Windy!!! OMG was it Windy. Did I say it was Windy? My rig was rocking and rolling and I wasn’t even moving!!!! Up reasonably early, and couldn’t even walk on the beach. The sand was blowing like drifting snow. Took a shower in the bathhouse and packed up awaiting the 11:00 departure to view Nancy’s bicycles. She wasn’t ready until 11:30, and that was making me annoyed, as I wanted to be on the road. I didn’t ask some pertinent questions which would have saved me the aggravation, but both bicycles were men’s, and I can’t get my leg over a man’s bike, so I reneged on both. She was very disappointed, as she really wanted my TV. She was ... read more

Saturday March 3, 2012 Late last night I watched 3 families of Asian American’s pull in and set up their tents. Lots of adults, lots of kids. Oh boy, are they going to get wet. Winston woke me up to go out around 6:30 this morning, and good thing he did. No sooner did I get back to the rig after walking him around 2 loops to make sure he pooped than the skies opened up. It was very strange watching the sky – it was like being in a hurricane. The campground was underneath a band of shower clouds. To the east, over the ocean was sunny. To the west, more inland was sunny. We were under rain. Needless to say I did not walk to ranger station to use internet. Tim, Gret, Ben & ... read more

Monday February 27, 2012 Brunswick GA to Hunting Island SC NOTE TO MY READERS: My internet connection is very slow - snuck on to a neighbors unsecure. I don't want to upload all my pictures, will get them on Monday or so. Monday: I snuggled in around 10:30 last night to watch the last of the Oscars from the comfort of my bed and that was a mistake. I woke up at 11:30 to see that George did not win best actor. Too bad, he’s so cute. Oh boy did it rain last night. No wind, no lightening, but steady, heavy downpours all night long. Amazingly Winston stayed in his bed on the dinette, about 3 feet from me, all night long. He doesn’t jump in with me ever. He does wake me up in the ... read more

Sunday February 26, 2012 Eustis FL to Brunswick GA What a day this turned out to be. I am so glad I ended up at a place with internet service just so I could share the day’s events. I didn’t sleep well, my hip ached and I just couldn’t get comfortable, and I knew I wanted to be up at 6; I kept waking up looking at the clock, even though my alarm was set, I didn’t want to miss it. Up at 6 and it was cold and dark. I packed up quickly, showered, and was on the road at 8, and that’s a new record for me! First stop, gas. $3.699, $100 and my tank wasn’t full, it wanted more. GROWL. I travelled north on FL 19 out of Eustis, and it is obvious ... read more

Friday February 24, 2012 and Saturday February 25, 2012 A heat wave Friday. I had the windows open to sleep Thursday night and it was still hot. Neighbor Nanette took me in her BIG CHEVY PICKUP TRUCK to Walmart and a few thrift stores. It was nice to get out. She and her husband, Clair, spend most of the year in their 5th wheel. They winter in FL and summer mostly at their campsite in MI, but travel all over to meet up with friends. They sure have helped me meet people here and include me in all their events. Very nice people. Once back at the rig, I knew Winston had been barking a lot, confirmed by neighbors who knew I would be back very soon and didn’t mind. It was so hot I had ... read more

Thursday February 23, 2012 Another beautiful day here in FL. A little Windy today, but otherwise gorgeous. All were talking about last night’s rain. No one suffered any damage, but lots of water everywhere. Thursday’s is Flea Market at the Lake County Fair Grounds, right next door to this ‘resort’. There is even a gate in the bordering fence which gets opened on flea market days so you don’t have to walk around. Me and my S & K rolling bag were there at 8:15. It was quite different and much smaller than the other flea markets I have been to here. There were 2 indoor buildings, and 4 long rows of vendors outside. Too bad I was there at 8:00 in the morning, if I had known there was going to be so much good ... read more

Wednesday February 22, 2012 A beautiful day here at Southern Palms. Didn’t do much of anything, crochet, catch up on Farmville, and took lots of walks. My neighbors are all lovely people. Winston actually played with little Daisy from the rig behind me. He let her jump all over him, then he jumped on her and they rolled on the ground together. I knew he had it in him. Her owner, whose name I have forgotten, says Daisy sits on the back of their couch looking out the window whining at Winston, all she wants to do is play with him. Next door neighbors Al & Sue are interesting people. They are from Michigan and travel about 6 months a year, 4 here in FL and the one month before and one month after they see ... read more

Tuesday February 21, 2012 I’m back on the internet!!! I was up and out with Winston at 7 and we took a very long walk around the Pine’s section of this huge campground (I am in the Sun section). The Pines is across CR 44, a very busy road. I was right in my assumption that this was once upon a time a separate campground. It just looks and feels different. The sites are bigger, more trees and the roads are a little wider. It would be a great place to be if you were with a bunch of friends, but it is a long way from the activity hub. The office was open when I got back, and once I told them my issues with the free internet, they gave me a coupon to use ... read more
