The one about being a Loner on Wheels.
Olde Mill Stream RV Resort is one of the few campgrounds calling itself a resort that in my mind truly is a resort. It has nice large campsites, neat motorhomes, 5
th wheels and large travel trailers and large campsites, a lake, a boat launch, pool, yadda, yadda, yadda. ultra clean restrooms, visible security and seems like a lot of activities. They also have a rally area, which is an open field with water and sewer hookups and a beautiful rec hall just for our use. The rec hall has a full kitchen, showers and toilets, and a large room for cards, dancing, or just casual conversation, with a big TV with lots of cable channels. Most importantly, there is excellent wifi throughout the park. I met up with my Loners on Wheels Friends on Wednesday afternoon, just about Happy Hour Time. When we were in full attendance, there were 21 of us. Some came for the full campout, 4 nights, some came early, some stayed later (me) some who live nearby just drove over for the day.
Ken and Gary were our hosts for the campout and they had lots of
planned activities, bean bag baseball (kind of cornhole), bocce, cards, meals in, meals out. They did keep us busy. They made ham for our potluck, and we had a delicious meal that night.
I found a fellow camper who also needed to do laundry, and I remembered from past years being here, it was right across the street. He drove. Happy I did it because all my cold weather sweat pants were dirty, and the temp is going down again tonight, so I will need them.
Many of us went to the Flea Market at the Eustis Fairgrounds. I forgot to bring money, so kept my purchases small, a wand that has a pad on the end that reaches into the corners of my windshield. A much needed item, as I just can’t reach the entire window in front of the steering wheel. Winston barked so much while I was outside, that Moya is undriveable due to spittle on the glass. I met up with a fellow Loner, Judy, and she spotted me $20. She had a beautiful staghorn fern, and directed me to that vendor and I bought one for myself. I think it will do quite

It's bigger than it looks in this picture well in Wilmington. You feed these things. Bananas, V8……just mix in a little Lysol to keep the bugs away from the rotting food. I can’t imagine sticking a rotting banana into a plant!! But, they are beautiful here, and grow very quickly, and the brown base of the plant can quickly overcome the growing pot.
We spent an afternoon in Mt. Dora. One of the highest points in FL at 184 feet above sea level, Mt. Dora is an artsy fartsy town with lot of cute shops, boutiquey hotels and restaurants, and a beautiful lake. Our hosts had arranged for a pontoon boat tour, which was a 2-hour cruise on the lake, and on into the Dora Canal, partially man made, partially natural river, to see how the rich and famous live here, next to the alligators, and many striking birds. The boat captains were our age, and told very funny old people jokes and played music of the 60s. We all tipped them nicely, for sure.
We ate out locally, 21 of us, at the Umatilla Inn. They actually did an excellent job. One waitress, with help of a few servers. She wrote all names on top
of the individual checks, easy to deliver the bills for sure. She took 4 orders, then brought them to the kitchen, and by the time she got the last order, the first had food. It was all you can eat catfish night, which I opted for, and it was really good. Others had ribs, (bland sauce) other fish, and usual pub type food.
Some of us were sharing baaaaad Senior RV Moments. I haven’t told you my big one (it involves sewer water,) but I will share another’s with you. I asked her permission to use the story, omitting her name for her protection, but I suspect some of my readers will recognize the story. She was ready to pull her 30 foot Class A out of her campsite, and got distracted and walked away for a few minutes, having to turn off the engine, etc. When she got back in, she turned the key and pulled away. Her electric plug pulled out and she was dragging it along, (with her expensive surge suppressor) but she pulled the water spigot out of the ground and was dragging that as well. She left a geyser of water behind her and never saw it. People were waving and walking towards her. Finally someone flagged her down and told her what she had done. This is one of those things you hope never happens to you.
Of course we had to get our Powerball tickets………we heard that at peak purchase time Saturday afternoon, 25,000/hour were being sold in Florida alone. Wow, that’s impressive.
Saturday, Sandy and I took her Enterprise rent-a-car to the Mt. Dora/Renninger’s Flea and Antique market. I had heard about it for many years, it was a Florida bucket list item. It was OK, but I sure do like Webster better; I will be there next week. I bought a purple slide for my silver omega chain, and two pieces of garden art. Pictures somewhere here.
Some peeled off on Saturday, they are going on a Carnival Cruise to Bahamas. Others peeled off Sunday morning, leaving 8 of us, who went out to lunch and a potential walk, but too cold and breezy. We had a lot of laughs at our last happy hour.
I enjoy camping with these MidLows, fun active folks. It is just fun sometimes to have a whole bunch of old people talking, we all have the same aches and pains, as we talk about the younger generation with numerous tattoos and piercings, and questionable politics, probably pretty much the same as our parents talked about us 50 years ago. I only get to see these people this one time a year; sometimes I run across them at other places. Lots of us are facebook friends, so we keep up with each other that way. Several are fitbit wearers; I became fitbit friends with them, their daily step goals are in tune with mine, so we will have some fun with challenges.
I am tucked in snug in Moya tonight, Sunday night, going to have to switch channels between The Golden Globes and Madame Secretary and The Good Wife, and start to clean up to get on the road tomorrow, about 50 miles to another Old Folks campground, Florilow Oaks in Bushnell, FL.
