Nice short drive after a sleep in today, which made everyone happy. Today we headed to Cocoa Beach, known for Kennedy Space Center, and the beach (of course). We arrived to the hotel around 2.30pm and most of us headed straight to the beach. Unfortunately there are no photos today as I decided not to bring my camera to the beach. We all had a really nice time though. Some of the group was playing volleyball on one of the courts, but I was content lazing around, catching some rays, and chatting to Brittney, Erin and Nikki. For dinner a bunch of us went to a seafood restaurant on the Cocoa Beach pier. It really wasn't that good, but it was cheap so I can't complain. Some guys started drinkinggames but I wasnt in the mood ... read more

Cocoa Beach, After an uneventful flight to Orlando on the “convertible” airline, I picked up my bags and MaryLu, Bill and Ann soon pulled up. Bill, MaryLu’s son, has rented a large SUV and my bags filled up the remaining space. The weather was sunny hovering around 90 and the drive to Cocoa Beach was short and pleasant. Checked into The Doubletree just in time for Happy Hour. Actually, Happy Hour had just ended but Bill is a charmer, not to mention REALLY good customer so we were able to relax with a cold beer. Our hostess was from Dublin and wants to go back to visit her Mom but the airfares, according to her, were outrageous. She has been in the US for 26 years now. Our room has a balcony that has views of ... read more

Cocoa Beach It's crazy how returning to one's country can be more of a culture shock than adventuring through foreign lands. I guess you expect a drastic change in life when you leave, but you think things will all be the same upon return. I decided a few months back to suprise my parents for the holidays...and it was a hard secret to keep! I flew into Miami and actually had more logistical problems (mean bus drivers, dark streets and no phone all added to the problem) getting to Fort Lauderdale. My old roomie finally opened her door and I frolicked all over what was to be my king-size bed for the next few days, took a steaming hot shower and passed out. Jeremy came in a few days later, and mind you he had been ... read more

After thinking I might never go to the Ice again, or at least in the forseeable future, I left Cocoa Beach Fl today for Denver, CO, for a few days of oreintation and training, then off to LAX to board my flight to Auckland New Zealand. And then ...on to Mcmurdo , Antarctica for the 4th time! and who knows --maybe for 5 months, maybe for a year, and then travel to places known and unknown! Going on a journey like this is a leap of faith in a way, you have no set return date, no real idea of what the next months -or years-will bring, when youll see your friends and family again, and what to say when the guy in seat 23B says 'So where are you headed today?' " well ....actually after ... read more

We left our lovely motel La Quinta, in Daytona after mother and father had a 8am swim in the ocean to wake up, and drove about 50 miles to Cocoa beach. En route, we were driving through a strange place called Port Orange, the parents were deciding which trailor park they were going to live in, then we saw a scene that could have been in CSI! There was a seedy motel that was all cordoned off with the standard yellow and black tape, loads of flashing cop cars and even a Fox news reporter reporting outside. AFter further research, i have found it ACTUALLY was a killing, how exciting, http://www.portorangeareanews.com/ for further info! On a different note, we hit a mall on our way out of Daytona, which is always a good way to ... read more

This past march break, I travelled down to florida with the rest of my team; the Ontario Blue Jays. We beagan our 24 plus hour bus ride to florida the morning of the March 12, and arrived sometime be fore 7:00 the next morning. On our travels, we stopped twice. For food and restroom breaks. We stopped once in west virgina and then again in georgia. We had to sleep on the bus which was quite uncomfrtable and tiresome. We played a total of 13 geams in the time span that we were there. We played two games a day except wednesday where we only had one to play. We played the majority of our games at the Cocoa Beach Expo. We also did travel to Dodgertown, Vero Beach, which is where the LA dodgers used ... read more

We all slept in until 10am, not surprisingly. Not a big deal as we had a "lazy" day today and we soon found out that there's not a lot to see around Cocoa Beach without travelling a long way. After breakfast Penny and the kids went with Jacki to buy some gear for the pool/beach and we took the minivan to explore the souvenir shops for lack of anything else to see. The cars here are big. So you can imagine how big the minivans are! Still, it didn't take too long to get back into the groove of driving on the wrong side of the road again. We didn't have far to go - only a few minutes up the road until we happened across the famous "Ron Jons" surf shop amidst a few similar ... read more

Up at 7am to get ready for the flight to Orlando. We got out the door right on 9am, which was the time we'd planned on leaving. Not much to report on the flight to Dallas. We had a 2 hour stop-over which we used to grab some lunch - pre-packaged sandwiches as all the food places were closing at it was about 5pm local time. The flight to Orlando was even less interesting. After grabbing our bags we headed out to pick up the minivan. Here is where the GPS got the acid test, and it passed with flying colours. The only problem is that it seems to have no POIs programmed, which just means you need to know the address of where you're going, not just the name. We can liv with that I ... read more

Cocoa Beach to St. Augustine - 42°c I woke up slightly earlier than I needed to this morning since I wanted to take some photos of the early morning sun over the beach and pier from my room’s balcony. The sky was still a lovely pink colour and it was well worth the early start to the day to capture the moment as the sun came up over the horizon. We left the hotel around 8am so as to head to St Augustine, our last stop in Florida. Just under an hour later we arrived at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral where we had trip-included admission. As one of the first ones at the center, we were amongst the first through security and able to get a head start on some of the space exhibits. ... read more

Temp: 37 Degrees C Bags to coach was 8. We got up a lil earlier to have brekkie as it was included and it was the buffett again. Couldnt stomach too much so stuck with the fruit and some bacon and eggs. We drove for about 2hrs then stopped at St Lucie again where we had stopped two days prior. Jumped on the bus again and finally made it to sunny Cocoa beach by about 12:30. We couldnt check in until 2pm so we all hit the beach til then. Went and checked in then wandered to the shops with Lauren, Marnee and Steve for some lunch. Had a grilled chicken salad, it was brilliant (finally, something semi healthy!!). Went back to the hotel and hit the pool as i was over the sand. Stayed there ... read more
