I leave for London in less than a day and could not be more excited (and nervous)!!! I know it's strange to be nervous for such an exciting trip, but it's the good kind of nervous. You know the kind of nervous you feel when you begin to fall in love, or when you are about to walk across a stage and recieve your college degree, or when you are forced to sing karoke sober. It's that kind of nervous-- the silly nervous that leaves a pit in the bottom of your stomach and gives you butterflies. I can't wait to be in London! It's going t be such an amazing experience (not to mention- SO FUN!!!). So yesterday I spent half of my day in a frenzy double and triple checking that I had everything ... read more

Well, I am beginning to start the count down to my amazing adventure in South Africa for the summer. I am going to be participating in a volunteer program through the Enkosini Eco-Experience. I leave on June 8th, and arrive in Johanessburg on June 10th. After long lay overs in Miami and Madrid, I will have to hop on a bus for five hours till I arrive at the tiny town, where a small bus will pick me up and take me to the Makalali Game Reserve. Here I will be spending three weeks out in the bush, doing feild studies on lions, night trecks, safari's, and working on elephant and lion contraception programs. I can't wait!! Then I am back to Jo. And hop on a plane to Capetown. Here I will be spending ... read more

Okay, I think I finally have everything planned as far as can be planned until I've actually arrived at my destinations. Tuesday June 5th- Leave LAX at 7:00am, Austrian Air Flight 7998 W Arrive JFK at 3:04pm Leave JFK at 5:54pm, Austrian Air Flight 88 W Wednesday June 6th- Arrive Vienna, Austria at 8:40am Wander around city dazed and jet lagged Thursday June 7th- Sightseeing City Tour, Danube River cruise Friday June 8th- Ring Walking Tour (State Opera, Hofburg, Burgtheater, Sigmund Freud Museum, Parliament, Rathaus, Votivkirche, The Prater) Saturday June 9th- City Walking Tour ... read more

Landing on the plane and looking out the window I was a little sceptical of San Francisco's reputation for being a hilly city, indeed millions of people must have just been having a winge about a few little hills. It was a day or two before I realised my mistake. It was a big one. After arriving at this really cool little place called the Adelaide Hostel I decided to go for a walk in the remaining light of the day, this inevitably turned into a massive trek as these things inevitably do. I walked along the main street towards the Embarcadero and the Old Pier's where the ferries used to ply their trade before the construction of the city's bridges. It was kind of pretty walking around a new city in the late afternoon sun ... read more

I hope this blog finds you well! We’ve been having quite the action packed trip and it seems to only get better! I believe the last update you found Natalie and me wondering through the great Redwoods of Northern California…the scenery certainly has changed since then. After camping in the Redwood Forest, we drove through the Avenue of the Giants, which is the famous ‘old’ Hwy 101 where the road winds through the towering trees. As we exited the large tree area, we found a place whe... read more

Hi Everyone, We’ve had a really fun time the last 2 days in Napa Valley. We’ve got free internet today on the Verizon phone so we decided to take advantage and send a short update. Boy, the trip over from Yosemite to Napa was NOT fun! We got to within about 30 miles or so from Oakland and San Francisco and the traffic was horrific! It took us an hour to go 5 miles and across the Sears Point toll bridge over San Francisco Bay in 10 lanes of traffic moving at a crawl. I’ll find a better route next time. Napa Valley though is really an awesome sight, we had no idea the meticulous care that goes into maintaining the vineyards. Shawn would really enjoy this. Went on several wine tours and tastings…. It's May 26, 2007. A few months have passed since my last blog update. What's going on? Ahhh, nothing...I'm just in the midst of making final preparations for moving overseas. Well, actually, that IS something. Indeed. Yes, plans are in motion for a move that is quickly approaching... Considering I've been renting this condo in Thousand Oaks, California for 15 years, it's not only remarkable I'm leaving the country, it's quite a leap to be moving at all. :) For all my travels through the years, I've been pretty stable when it comes to a home base. If I move my home base overseas, will I travel less? I've already given notice to my landlords (goodbye Maegan Place!). I'm about to give notice to my boss (let me be the first to tell him...please). I've purchased ... read more

So I am just starting up this journal so that I can keep everyone posted while I am away in Mexico. I am getting very excited since I leave in 21 days. I will be in Morelia, Michoacan from June 16th to August 23rd, staying with a host family and going to school studying Spanish. I have been told that all the students have the weekends free to travel around so I am looking forward to getting to know Mexico. If you don't want to on this list let me know. Also, you may have to unblock Travelblog in your email so notifications don't end up in your spam box. Well, more to come as departure inches closer. Until then, be well. ... read more

The days have definitely begun to run together. The routine of waking up, making a huge breakfast, breaking camp, packing the car, hitting the road, riding for hours, stopping for picnic, riding for more hours, finding camp, cooking an epic dinner while setting up tents and crashing into a deep, exercise-induced sleep is getting, well, a bit monotonous. Nightly alcohol consumption is on the rise. Physically, we are holding up pretty well. Stiff necks, sore backs, tight legs and tender backsides are common enough, but not slowing us down significantly. Derek has climbed back on his bike today for his first ride with the group in 9 days since his spill on Day 4. I finally took a day off on Day 9 and wound up buying a new roadbike. I was innocently inquiring about ... read more

Well, here we are at LAX - Los Angeles Airport. Maybe I should give a bit of a background on who 'we' is. 'We', at the moment, is Toni and me. I met Toni back in 2003 when we did a contiki tour of Europe together. After that Toni invited me (or did I invite myself?!?) to join her in Egypt in Feb 2005 and this trip to the US, Mexico and Canada is our next adventure! Given we haven't killed each other on previous trips, this one should be a walk in the park (famous last words..?). We're in transit on our way to Las Vegas, our first real stop in the great US of A. We spend two nights there at the Bellagio, then check out and go slightly down (or could be up, ... read more
