So, yes….back to ticks and scorpions. While packing up the tent the next morning, guess what just happened to crawl out?? A SCORPION! Yikes! We were sleeping with it! So we took some pictures of it, thanked the baby Jesus that it didn’t hurt us and went on our way. We drove on out of the Lake Euphala Campground and made our way to Arkansas… The Natural State. We had heard on TV that somewhere in Arkansas you can mine your own quartz, diamonds and other gems. We were all over that idea so we looked it up and headed to the Mt. Ida area for the booty. . We pulled over to road side rock shop and went around back where the running water and sand sifters were. We paid 8 bucks for a ... read more

Hey everyone! Well, today we’re on the road traveling through Oklahoma. I believe the last time we updated our blog was back in Holbrook, Arizona. Whoa! The miles sure have past quickly! . While in Holbrook we woke up the next morning with plans to visit the Petrified Forest nearby. We stopped into a little rock shop run by an old native of the area and went crazy for the rocks he sold there! He had piles of petrified wood, agates, geodes, glass chunks, precious stones, etc. Even though we keep lecturing ourselves not to accumulate too many rocks along our trip and be conscience of the gas mileage, Natalie and I went crazy and came back to the already stuffed car with armfuls. Ha! . We found ourselves connecting with the locals pretty easily ... read more

We continued on past the Hoover Dam and into Kingman, where we decided to stop at a motel in order to regroup and relax from our time in Vegas. We found a room at the ‘Arizona Inn’ that was acceptable, and looked around the town a bit. Kingman is on the old Route 66, and there were a few interesting places through the town that seemed to be old attractions. We ate at a great Thai place, too. After checking out the visitor’s center in the morning, we headed down south to Phoenix to stay with LeAnne’s friend who’s also named Natalie. As we entered Surprise, Arizona, LeAnne was able to reconnect with one of her cousins, Brian, and we visited with him ... read more

Yep, it’s a valley. hot. wide. And that’s about the extent of it. The lowest part was 200 feet below sea level and the highest point was well above 1000 feet so we were getting some serious elevation change. We really enjoyed cruising down the other side of the giant hills, evidently the pavers didn’t want to go through all the trouble of flattening out the dips so with a little speed we were loosing our stomachs… it was BOMB…whatever entertains you through the long drive of Death Valley I guess. :) Finally we reached Las Vegas at about 9:30pm. We actually arrived a day earlier than our reservations so we had to ... read more

I hope this blog finds you well! We’ve been having quite the action packed trip and it seems to only get better! I believe the last update you found Natalie and me wondering through the great Redwoods of Northern California…the scenery certainly has changed since then. After camping in the Redwood Forest, we drove through the Avenue of the Giants, which is the famous ‘old’ Hwy 101 where the road winds through the towering trees. As we exited the large tree area, we found a p... read more

**FYI, LeAnne wrote the blog, & Natalie commentaried the pics... Hey EVERYONE! Yep, it's us again hollerin' from good ol' Eureka, California. A lot has happened since the last blog....let's see, that was 2 days ago. Well we will begin in Bend, Oregon. Natalie and I had spent a good two days there checking out the parks and visiting with Marja, my guiding buddy from Alaska. Our scheduled departure date would be that Saturday afternoon, an hour before my other buddy Julie would arrive in Bend. It just seemed right to stick around a little longer to visit with her too, so we decided to stay another night. I'm glad we did. The rest of the afternoon was spent catching up on journals and taking advantage of the free wi-fi at the local bakery. Along ... read more

We arrived in Bend Friday night and visited with LeAnne’s friend Marja. We had a good time visiting with her & LeAnne enjoyed catching up. We decided that we'd spend the next day letterboxing around the area to be able to visit the local parks. Our first full day in Bend we spent down at the Lava Cast Forest and the Lava River Cave. Bend, Oregon is the site of massive volcanic activity that took place over 6,000 years ago. This created an entire ‘forest’ of volcanic rock that came from the Newberry Volcano. We walked around the area down a trail that cuts through the porous rock and takes you to a viewpoint overlooking the valley on to Mount Bachelor. The area has a few seedlings here and there, but for the most part ... read more

Untitled **Note: This is really long, but it’s b/c it’s the introduction…The rest of our updates should be more tolerable, and we’ll be sure to throw lots of pics in if you’d rather just look at those. Well, we’ve finally begun our adventure! We wanted to keep our friends & family updated of what’s going on during our trip, so this is our travel blog where you can get all the updates and happenings. I’ll be writing most of the entries for convenience (me = Natalie), but definitely with LeAnne’s inputs. I’m just the computer geek, so it’s easier for me to type it all up. For those who are unaware of what’s going on with us, LeAnne, my girlfriend, is moving to Alabama with me now that I’m out of the Navy. I’m going ... read more
