Hey everybody, Rob and I have arrived safely at our hotel in Puebla. It is a big releif to see that there are far fewer people here than there was in Mexico City. There is much less stress when there are fewer people around. Plus, the weather is perfect and we can wander around with lots of other tourists. We were extremely lucky in Mexico City to be able to climb the towers of the main cathedral in the zocalo. From our views, we were able to take some amazing pictures of one of the craziest places that I have ever seen in my whole life. So that takes us here for 2 days. Internet here is hard to find and use. Phones are finnicky, I can´t call when I want to, we haven´t figures it ... read more

So, I made it safely to Puerto Vallarta. Wendy and I rode took a cab with Nori and Danny, who were traveling to Mexico City to retrieve Dannys car and Noris passport and visa, both of which were stolen on a subsequent Tequila tour and found by the Mexican Police in Mexico City that night. The bus ride was about 6 hours and we took Primera Plus. I had bought a headphone splitter (7 pesos) and headphones (90 pesos) the day before, so we could listen to music on her MP3 player. The mexican countryside was gorgeous, once we finally escaped Guadalajara traffic. This country isn{t built for highways. Anyway, amazing. Mountains, beautiful weather, agave plantations, little towns here and there... The last couple hours of the drive it was raining, as it apparently does every ... read more

North America » Mexico » Quintana Roo » Cozumel December 30th 2006

Geo: 20.3435, -86.5985Had a rough night - very little sleep. Plus, we had to get up early to catch our tours. We ended up sitting around in a lounge waiting to board a ferry for the mainland (Cozumel is an island, but our tours were on the mainland). The seas were rough - luckily it was a bigger boat than the little tenders we took in Belize and Grand Cayman. It actually felt a little bit dangerous - the boat was rocking back and forth like crazy. I almost died in the bathroom - try taking a whiz while the boat is violently listing back and forth! The floor was slippery (covered in you-know-what) ... after, I felt a great sense of accomplishment in successfully doing my business without spilling all of it (I think at ... read more

OK, so we left off at Christmas night. The next day I had planned to hit Tonola and Tlaquepaque but we were offered a ride to Lake Chapala by Danny from Mexico City (here they just say I´m from Mexico and it´s assumed that they mean Mexico City or DF) After I went to the bus station agani to look for my journal (no dice) and bought a shirt and a belt from various street vendors, I returned to the hostel. Then, a few of us... Paulina, Wendy, this guy Martin who was from somewhere in Europe.... I forget. Gah! Anyway... hopped in the mid 90´s ¨VW golf and raced on down to Chapala. There is a town, Ajijic that is also on the lake, but it was further away, so we went to Chapala. It ... read more

Hola, its us again. Well once again so much has happened over the short time since we last wrote. We learnt so much in our 2 weeks at Genesis and managed to do lots of activities including, bike riding to Cenotes and swimming in them, visiting the infamous Chicha Nitza Ruins and participating in a local Mayan religous ceremony. We met so many people there including a great couple who were initially the chefs there for the first week. They met at a Zen Buddhist retreat where they both were for 2 years. They just got married and had decided they would go and find bicycles and ride the Mexico coast and down to Guatemala!!! Wow. We left Genesis and said goodbye to all of our new Mayan friends and all of the animals (lots of ... read more

I had a week off from work so I decided to escape the wind and fog of San Francisco and get some sun. My lack of planning led me to Mexico City. It's warm, it's cheap, I know a bit of Spanish - what more do I need? I had an amazing time in Mexico City! I met so many fascinating people - let's see if I can remember them all. There was Ivan, who lives in Mexico City. We met up one night for beers and swapping stories. Ivan brought along his German friend (whose name escapes me). This German dude has been bicycling through Central America for 2 years! Cycling - with a bicycle! He's on his way to Vegas where he's meeting up with some friends in March. Unbelievable! He had such incredible ... read more

One year (and a couple weeks) ago today, Lindsay and I returned from our travels through Asia, a 4 month trip we called the “reunion tour” following years of living, working and studying in opposite ends of Canada. After the reunion tour we once again went our separate ways; Vancouver and Calgary. New cities, jobs and people all made time pass very quickly. Now, a year later we’ve reunited again, but decided to leave the backpacks and malaria drugs at home, instead opting for a vacation that could be “agreeable for the whole family”. Before leaving we are asked if we have plans to resurrect the travel blog. We hadn’t, but we realized we couldn’t let you, our faithful readers, down. But given we were headed to a resort area in Mexico we realized we would ... read more

Ok, so as mentioned before, most of our time was directed to some party stuff. well here is the proof. not that we need proof, but they are the funniest of all pictures. most clubs were quite ... how to say ... lame? poser? surfer? boaring! yes, thats the one, they were just as boaring as listeing a tennis match on the radio. There were 2 exceptions: 1) babylon house, a place full of books, chess and bakggamon (spelt like this). there were live shows every night, one night they even tried quite succesfully with flamenco. it was all good untill a horrible woman took over this pretty girl dancing, and started beating the floor with her shoes just as if she stepped on a bee hive. it made my blood heat, if you slit right ... read more
