Well I made it home. After 2 months of traveling it was nice to make it back onto Canadian soil! I was very fortunate to not be traveling through Heathrow in London so I made it back uneventfully. I was very impressed that everything was on time and there weren't any glitches-I think that was a first on our entire trip. We left John and Danika in Zanzibar to enjoy a few more days on the beach before continuing on with their journey and possibly climbing Mt. Meru and Karlee and I headed back to Stonetown. Since we weren't sure if we were going to be able to catch the bus in the morning and it was our only ticket home we decided to dig into our wallets one last time and flew from Stonetown to ... read more

Not much of a super entry for this leg of my road trip vacation, this is more is a recap of me being a lazy blob. So don't expect any cool sites. If you want them, browse back in my travelblog for Ottawa stuff. Wow what an incredibly long road trip. 15 hours straight and four provinces crossed. Besides all the pretty sites you can see when taking a long road trip, and the endless playing of metal music, I don't think I'll do that long of a trip in one day again. Made good time though! Started off in good ol Nova Scotia at some ungodly time in the morning and drove down to the ferry. Booted it over to New Brunswick and then sped right through to Quebec. Took a nice scenic route away ... read more

So long, farewell Ontario! We have just about completed the journey across Ontario with a lovely sendoff weekend at home in Dunrobin. Coincidentally we even overlapped the same weekend that our grandfather was visiting which was great timing! It was a nice break to canoe and play some beach volleyball for a day rather than bike and after a tour of the capital, Dan now knows more about the Canadian Captial than he does about his own capital in Washington. Let's backtrack to Thunder Bay where I last wrote; Thanks to Fiona and Jeff for showing us an awesome time there, on her birthday even! Finish pancakes were all that they were cracked up to be and Fiona got us VIP treatment at her bar for the Blues Fest party which was a blast. If you ... read more

Heya! Okay, so first up I fully admit I have been rather negligent in maintaining the travelblogs - I’ve at least two past trips to cover in addition to this one, and several people have been reminding me that they’ve been logging on to check the site a lot more than I have. So I’m getting to it straight away this time, to recount to you the 10 wonderful days I just spent visiting Ottawa, Canada which was my home of 2.7 years and remains one of my favourite places on the planet. Now, before I go any further - would all the indignant Aussies please just calm down. I plan on visiting you, one way or another, in the next 6-9 months. So back to my trip! I left a grey and cool London on ... read more

Well Canada Day in the capital is certainly something. I'm not sure if it's for everyone but I suppose it's worth seeing at least once. The crowds were giant. I am not sure how many people showed up in and around Capital Hill but it sure made moving around difficult. There were estimates of about 100,000 people out and about between the Hill, Major Hills Park and the park in Gatineau which I can't remember the name of. I went up to the Hill around 10:00 so that I could see the RCMP musical ride and the changing of the guard but the place was so crowded that I couldn't see anything anyway! Later on Mom, Colin and me wandered around Wellington Street and down into Major Hills Park. There were some street performers and musicians ... read more

I was browsing through my old pictures and found some from home. Newfoundland really is beautiful. I don’t think I really realized it until I left last semester. If there is one thing I miss, besides my family and friend, it’s the ocean. There is nothing like it here. Even the Great Lakes don’t measure up. Plus I miss the Newfoundland summer, because although the other seasons can get bleak, summer is always great! I am being nostalgic, which is funny considering I will be back at the end of August. I think it’s mostly because I keep thinking that I will be leaving again for Prague in September. I am sure that there are a lot of people who couldn’t care less if they ever saw the ocean but when you grow up next to ... read more

Since my job is, as stated in an earlier post, boring I have decided to give a little history. Mostly to keep myself occupied and so that I can show off some cool photos. I can't access any of my photos from home (stupid at work internet monitoring!) but I do have access to some that have been taken during my time in Ottawa. So this is my second term working at the boring job and living at 205 Charlotte Street. The people have changed but it's still fun. The last semester I was here was the fall semester from September to December 2005. It was a blast. I was homesick for a while but that wore off and I ended up having the time of my life. I missed my friends but I could just ... read more

Well. I can’t believe that it is already June 19th! That is just so damn weird. I remember hanging out at Michelle’s until all hours trying to write a kick-ass application to get into Germany. That was in December! Then I got accepted to Paderborn and she didn’t. I really wanted to travel to Europe with Shelley so I switched and we both managed to get into the School of Economics in Prague. Now I’m stuck in Ottawa until I can go home. I get about three weeks at home and then Shelley and I are off to London. Wow even typing that seems unreal! Last week we finally managed to buy our tickets to Prague. We are flying into London on the morning of the 11th of September. Then we are going to Leeds for ... read more
