Well, before I head off for Europe, I have many loose ends to tie up. One being the need to renew my Canadian Passport. What a headache.. So it was off to Ottawa to apply for one. Normally I could just apply through the mail system, I realise this, but I lack organisation and as such left things to the last minute as usual. So I had to go to an office in person and apply for the rush service to get it before my flight. A 7am bus from Kingston to Ottawa, about 3 hours on the bus, and here I am in Ottawa. A city I don't know much about at all, so if nothing else this is good practice for me. It only took me 45 minutes to walk from the bus terminal ... read more

On the 3rd day, after we had breakfast with Yehia(my team mate from EWB) and his girlfriend; we took a train ride (Via Rail) to Ottawa around 10 am. The train ride was awesome and that would be our first official train ride as couple. The scenery was a spectacle! White snow covering the field of green and trees, couple of houses complimenting the scenery. The first few minutes of the ride, in the island of montreal, you could see the magnificent view, a moment you won't forget. Our eyes and heads move from left to right, not wanting to miss any wonderful spots......but wait, Goodbye Montreal..........Ottawa here we come! We reached the Ottawa station and took a taxi ride to Hotel Sofitel. We chose that hotel since it would be a walking distance to the ... read more

Let me ask you. What is the Capital of Canada? Toronto you may think. Wrong. The capital of Canada is Ottawa. Let's recall a little geography here. Toronto is the capital city of Ontario. Ontario is only one of the 13 provinces and territories of Canada. Ottawa is the country's capital and it is one of the cities within Ontario, which is on the east coast of Canada. Ottawa is nearing the border between Ontario and Quebec. (Quebec is another province which has the popular Montreal.) After visiting the gift shops in Montreal, we took off for Ottawa. It's approximately 3 hours down south. We left Montreal around 1pm and got in Ottawa a little late in the afternoon. It was not difficult to notice the Parliament Hill because of the three picturesque green-roofed buildings ... read more

Well, well, well ... I'm finally on the trip I dubbed "My trip of a lifetime". Its amazing to think of all the time Michelle and I spent planning/organizing this whole thing and now that its finally here, I wish I kind of had some more time. I think it is because I didn't put much thought on how much I would miss the familiarity of home. And being away for 2 months is terrifying, yet amazingly exciting! The thought about embarking on a journey that will forever change me and will teach me things I could never learn in school or challenge me in such an unfamiliar way is extremely gratifying. Anyway, where am I now? On a plane to Honolulu, Hawaii to drop off some people and to re-fuel. Then we are off to ... read more

Hey Everyone, Sorry its taken so long for me to update this but you know how it is non stop. Anyway we finally made our way up to the Canadian Capital and im so glad we did. It has to be one of the prettiest cities i've ever seen. Within about 20mins of being there we were driving past the parliment building which was all lighted up because it was night time. Also there were fairy lights everywhere on all the trees for xmas. Julian drove Bianca, Carl, Phil and myself up there in his car and its good he did. It was soooooo cold and we would never had survived. His mate Dominic (top guy) put us up for the weekend and showed us the nightlife. On friday night we went for dinner and the ... read more

Hey, just trying this thing out for the first time...like the title says, there is only 2 1/2 months before Ann and I jump on a plane for 21 hours (that doesn't even include the flying time from Ottawa to New Jersey). Now that summer vacation is over and the countdown is on it's seeming more real for sure. Before, it didn't really sink in that we were actually going to do this but it's coming REALLY fast! We're busy now trying to sell off our stuff so it's less junk to store while we're away. We're also busy getting all our documents organized like addresses for Canadian Embassies in the countries we're going to...Malaysian Airlines (that's who we're flying with most of the way) offices for when we want to change our flight dates...and we've ... read more
