Everything I have read about travel told me to expect nothing, but embrace everything and really feel as though I did....... I may have set out and ended up with a few unfulfilled hopes, but my openness to experiance led to see a much greater picture of what my central Canadian brothers live like. No were before have a seen a crowd so entranced in unit as I did on Canada Day, never have I felt the pride as I did touring parliament call me a little weird but it was such an experience to see where the laws and values of our country are shaped. I felt very humble walking the same halls as the great leaders of our past and before the leaders of the future. I learned much from my visits to the ... read more

The crowed energy and atmosphere are something I'll never forget, 2 million wearing red and white, a hundred bands playing on every corner. I don't think I'll ever be filled with so much patriotism again. I don't know that many things ever live up to expectations, so often we let little differences in plans take away from an experience, but really truly feel I lived through the energy that is Canada Day in our great nations capital. I was alittle hungover in the morning and got off to a late start on the day. Marie decided not to come in for Canada day so a few of my hostel mates and I headed down to the parliament buildings to hear the speeches and mid day performances. I have never seen so many buskers or so many ... read more

We were very pleased to spend some time with Larry, Jan and Sarah at their Ottawa home. Larry worked with Darren at the ACCC on exchange from the Canada equivalent, eight years ago. Larry cooked us a wonderful BBQ, replete with Melbourne placemats and Jacob's Creek wine, so we were made feel much at home, though the Canadian ribeye was probably better than your average Aussie cut. During the day we spent an afternoon at the National Gallery that was well worth seeing. Today we travelled to Brockville, On, at the St Lawrence River to do a short cruise around the lovely part of the river that has roughly 1000 islands over 70 kilometres. The scenery was wonderful but the commentary was unfortunately, inaudible.... read more

On Ottawa The weather is great, the sights are great adn the comapny is fantastic. I arrived around midnight all my gear intact, Marie picked me up from the airport. It was a genuine pleasure to finally meet her after having talked for so long on nexopia. We enjoyed a few drinks on this wicked rooftop patio, and then called it a night. As I was arriving so late I decided to hotel it for the first night well marie did I decided it was time for a late dinner of smoked meat and poutine I probably should have waited till montreal for that. The hotel was old but nice I got a freaking apartment for 90 a night, though I was there for 11 hours or so. The 45 minute walk to my hostel was ... read more

I decided I should set one of these up for when I'm off and about this summer. Last year I had all my updates on facebook; the family couldn't see what was going on, so I figured a blog would fix that problem. If you've talked to me over the past few months, you know the plans seem to be everchanging. I do believe I've finally come to my final itenary though. About time eh, with only 17 days to spare... So here's the deal - I fly into Frankfurt and connect into Paris. The rest of my European adventure will (mostly) take place on the bus as I am cheap like that and don't mind the occasional overnighter. The next two weeks will be spent hopskotching across the continent - I know 1-3 days per ... read more

On Friday night I went to a birthday party. It was a lot of fun. Then on Saturday morning we got up early to go to Ottawa. On the way we stopped at a park called omega park. It is an animal park where lots of native animals live. You drive in your car and all the Deer’s and other animals come up to your car and stick their heads in the windows. We fed them carrots. It was a lot of fun. They were all slobbering all over us and they kept trying to lick us. In the park there was bears, buffalos, wapitis, red deer’s, wolves, wild boars, beavers and more. Some of the animals like the bears were behind fences but we still got a really good look at them. The only bad ... read more
