The crowed energy and atmosphere are something I'll never forget, 2 million wearing red and white, a hundred bands playing on every corner. I don't think I'll ever be filled with so much patriotism again. I don't know that many things ever live up to expectations, so often we let little differences in plans take away from an experience, but really truly feel I lived through the energy that is Canada Day in our great nations capital.
I was alittle hungover in the morning and got off to a late start on the day. Marie decided not to come in for Canada day so a few of my hostel mates and I headed down to the parliament buildings to hear the speeches and mid day performances. I have never seen so many buskers or so many hot dog stands in my life, the crowd was thick, well I thought at the time. Watched some acrobats not long enough that i wanted to pitch them a loonie, but they were ok I had seen them rained out a night earlier, but the group wasn't interested in the whole show.
I was smuggling beer and had to pour some out, sneaky
police I tell you. We continued on to the big show, Harper spoke, the Govgen spoke, then Shane Yellowbird and Sarah McLachlan performed both good but Sarah stole show for sure, there were other acts but none really tickled my fancy. The entire downtown echoed with every note is was so loud but the accoustics were really good. It was about an hour long and was decent entertainment. We went to a little brewpub for lunch normally I love local beer, but there stuff wasn't good, boo to the clock tower. My hostel mates left for a nap and then headed to back, i decided to enjoy the afternoons festivities a bit more, I found this Australian new age band and listened to them for an hour, everyone was dancing the music was so chill and different , i kinda regret not buying the CD, shit what they're name oh well good show. I have never seen an electric digiredoo(sp), but it was surprisingly good.
We were blessed with no rain that day, but the heat starting to get to me after 4 hours of wandering, I had to head back to the hostel to cool off. Around
7 I headed back out with the boys again for the big concert. First act was an acrobat that was on a.....uh........ dude honestly he was pole dancer, wtf can't we get someone with a hula hoop next time. A lot of french rock to grove to got the crowd really going and Sarah McLachlan was the finale she's fantastic I will see her again someday if the chance comes up. Finally 20 minutes worth of fireworks I got some great shots but I am still working on the photo thing here cut me some slack. I left part way through the fireworks so I could get in at a bar, once at the highlander I joined some teachers from Thunderbay and drank a few jugs nice place although they really should of kicked crazy dude out sooner.
I thought the night was over, but I met up with the hostel girls and guys and went out for more, a little too much more, we kinda got kicked out, fucking douche bouncers wouldn't let us finish at 2:20 when it closes at 3. On the way home I almost got into a fight with some body builder dude because
i was talking bout his momma, he started it we ended up hugging instead.
I slept well that night, may my memories never escape me.
