Everything I have read about travel told me to expect nothing, but embrace everything and really feel as though I did.......
I may have set out and ended up with a few unfulfilled hopes, but my openness to experiance led to see a much greater picture of what my central Canadian brothers live like. No were before have a seen a crowd so entranced in unit as I did on Canada Day, never have I felt the pride as I did touring parliament call me a little weird but it was such an experience to see where the laws and values of our country are shaped. I felt very humble walking the same halls as the great leaders of our past and before the leaders of the future.
I learned much from my visits to the many museums of Ottawa, and from the Germans, Danish, Irish and American travelers as they saw my country from the outside. Though I love the west were I come from, it is so different at this end of the country I don't know if is better, but I think we could learn a few things from our eastern brothers and sisters when it
comes to multiculturalism and acceptance.
A sincere thank you to Marie who was my host, taxi driver and accomplice on this wee adventure. I hope we continue to be friends for years to come and all the best in persuing your career in medicine. Bungee jumping was great eh.
I would definitely return to Ottawa one day, the size and atmosphere would make for a great home. Perhaps as a public servant, though my writing skills would have to improve a tremendous amount and i would have to learn french. The city is beautiful and aside from a few power tripping bouncers the people are great. I only wish I had seen more sights, but traveling lite is a lot of work and I love my sleep.
You may ask what I learned of myself and I honestly don't know..........I have some growing to do in areas, but generally i learned just how patriotic I am and how happy I am traveling. The freedom of just wandering until something strikes my interest in a foreign place is amazing and I look forward to it more an more each day.
May the triumph of this first
step bring me closer to whatever it is I am looking for.
Next step Montreal.
