STARTING LINE-UP: Ted, Davis, a whole bunch of cats PITCH CONDITION: Less than ideal...but we can't complain after how awesome the last few days have been! MATCH OVERVIEW: A fairly sedate match, lacking the intensity of previous outings but nonetheless obtaining the required result. PLAYER INFO: After his huge effort yesterday, Lennon was rested so Ted and Davis were required to pick up the slack. HIGHLIGHTS: - Spent the day exploring Ottawa on foot. Bit of a change from the tiny towns and rural setting of the previous few days! - Not a huge amount of "touristy" things to do, especially if like us you are too tight to pay for museums etc. Was just nice to stroll around and get a "feel" for the city. - Quote of the Day: Davis wanted to buy some ... read more

STARTING LINE-UP: Ted, Davis, Lennon the car, some friendly squirrels PITCH CONDITION: Clear blue skies and glorious sunshine. Again. MATCH OVERVIEW: The team was required to cover a lot of territory which led to a memorable and fulfilling outcome. PLAYER INFO: With Ted pretty much back to full fitness he was able to reclaim the captain's armband, much to Davis' discontent. Lennon's little legs easily carried the team the full distance. HIGHLIGHTS: - Had our breakfast picnic in a lovely little park in the centre of Bracebridge and made friends with some local squirrels. - Set off in search of more waterfalls and found some at the end of a long, quiet road just out of town. Drove past some quaint little houses with fabulous views of the river along the way. - Set off in ... read more

Hello Everyone! I haven't blogged in a while and I apologise for that. Internet time was either hard to get to and/or very expensive. I want you all to know that I have cut my trip short and that I am at HOME in Ottawa, safe and sound. I have had an amazing 6 month journey and I will write all about it so you can find out more. I will write it in a small e-book and send it out to everyone to read at their leisure. The reasons I cut the trip short are many, but suffice it to say that it was mostly because, even tho I was enjoying myself immensely, I just missed home, family and friends more and more. After about 2 weeks of wishing I was at home every night, ... read more

I arrived in Ottawa on January 11th at about 10PM following a 3 hour delay with the connecting flight in Edmonton. Originally, my itinerary had called for a 3 hour layover there. I had made arrangements to meet my brother, Chris for breakfast as I had not seen him over the holidays. When I returned to the airport to catch my flight, I had learned that there was some sort of mechanical issue with it and that we would not be leaving on time. I was also aware that another person from my group was departing for Ottawa from Edmonton on the same flight. Chris, a civilian crime analyst with the RCMP had also signed up for the Afghanistan mission. I would later learn that he along with another analyst would be the first civilian members ... read more

No more sleeps, no more running, except for maybe flights.... Before we get too far along, we wanted to say thanks to a few very wonderful folks. In no particular order: When this dream first started, there was a 'Fear Change' Growler in the kitchen, for all of you, and you know who you are, many thanks for kick starting the dream. Basecamp and family, Mike/Tammy, Linda and Chuck, Kelli and Mark, Brian the physical terrorist, Mark and Emily, Nicole, Cathy the Irish Jersey girl and her family, Jane, Loraine, Louise, Paul D and a very heart felt thanks to the Ottawa Airport Authority. Every one of you are making a difference and your kindness and generosity is amazing. The run would not be a possibility without those who broke us down and those who put ... read more

Ten sleeps to go... we're leaving next week... where did all the time go? Well owing to the sub-frigid temperatures this past week, some of it certainly went exactly nowhere... four consecutive days of running for four consecutive hours on a threadmill kinda nowhere, all this untapped heat energy... suffering extensive brain damage when you end up with the one machine directly facing the Cosmo Channel monitor screen ... I mean really, I need to do what with my hair and I never realized there was a mathematical equation to be derived from how high your heels should be in contrast to your cup size... My head still hurts. (Nat writing here). So like Ray (Zahab) predicted, the "plugging the dam holes with all finger" dance has begun as we start making piles of things to ... read more

Reality has started to become more real arrrgh l'(ity).... First though, what a wonderful holiday time with family and friends! The kids we all here for Christmas along with grand dad, our two 'adopted older children', they are in there '20s'! Food, fun, lots of laughter and of course....running...mostly on the 'dreadmill', not our favorite but thanks to Pump Fitness and Corona, we 'got er done'! Well sort of. We talked to Coach tonight and we are, honestly, more than a bit freaked! But before that....a wonderful and quiet New Year's Eve, just the two of us laughing, thinking of our friends near and far, reminiscing and wondering what 2010 will bring. You know, we had the Cambodia map out and think we may have found a new route to run! Ever hear of the Cardamom ... read more

Hey all, I made it back home in one piece. Start work again tomorrow... ugh. Had an absolutely amazing trip and would highly recommend Peru for any of you who are adventure-minded and are looking for a great travel experience. My last day in Lima I visited the Gold Museum as well as the Archeology and History Museum with Christian. Both museums were impressive and did a great job in solidifying all my learning on the pre-Incan, Incan, and post-Incan civilizations. A great way to end the trip. Flight from Lima to Toronto was good. I am very glad that I had a nice set of headphones with me though. The guy on my left was snoring before we taxied from the gate and the baby off to my left screached for the eight hours of ... read more

Jeff and I agree... the most commonly heard reaction by people who hear about our planned adventure... "you're crazy". Tell you, I wish we were. It might just make the daily reality of our training, the logistical planning, that little thing called your "real day job", the ever omnipresent running of a household and child minding seem a little less daunting at times. Especially at 05:30 a.m. when the alarm sounds and Jeff and I have a lottery going for who gets to circuit train at the gym first as opposed to getting to spend an extra 20 minutes in bed... no one really wanting to draw that short straw since we only ran 18 plus kilometers less than ten hours ago. Honestly though I would not trade this for the world. I get to spend ... read more
