RD's New Pet
Friendly wee squirrel we (meaning RD) shared our breakfast with. Not sure what bagels do to a squirrel's digestive system though. STARTING LINE-UP: Ted, Davis, Lennon the car, some friendly squirrels
PITCH CONDITION: Clear blue skies and glorious sunshine. Again.
MATCH OVERVIEW: The team was required to cover a lot of territory which led to a memorable and fulfilling outcome.
PLAYER INFO: With Ted pretty much back to full fitness he was able to reclaim the captain's armband, much to Davis' discontent. Lennon's little legs easily carried the team the full distance.
HIGHLIGHTS: - Had our breakfast picnic in a lovely little park in the centre of Bracebridge and made friends with some local squirrels.
- Set off in search of more waterfalls and found some at the end of a long, quiet road just out of town. Drove past some quaint little houses with fabulous views of the river along the way.
- Set off in the general direction of Ottawa (about 350km east). Selected our route to pass through the southern part of
Algonquin Provincial Park. Impossible to describe without resorting to superlatives and cliches, the scenery truly was breath-taking, stunning, incredible, spectacular etc etc. And that is just what we saw from the road, imagine what it is like after hiking into the middle
Wilson's Falls
Just outside of Bracebridge. RD contemplates riding down them in a barrel. of it
*sigh*.
- Stopped at a couple of (very!) small towns along the way: Whitney, Barry's Bay, Renfrew.
- Stopped for photo ops at a couple of lakes along the way: Lake of Two Rivers, Golden Lake
- Randomly turned off at one the (many) small trails and went for a wander through the forest to a sensational lookout over
Smoke Lake. Mmmmmm, smell that fresh air!
- Drove through loads of farmland as well, which looks exactly like you would imagine with its big red barns, fallow fields, ramshackle tractor sheds... Although we do confess to sniggering like 12 year olds as we passed one with a huge sign proudly proclaiming it the Dick Farm. We presume that is the family name, otherwise us city folk sure have a lot to learn.
- Made it to Ottawa in one piece in the early evening, ready to explore the city tomorrow...
SUMMARY: A fair bit of driving needed today but the roads are so good and the scenery so awesome it is certainly not a chore. Really enjoyed our short wander through the woods - even though Ted was in thongs
[Note to Bush Man Ted
Clearly equipped for hiking...in his thongs/flip flops. UK readers: thongs = flip flops]. The lakes keep getting more and more beautiful, the national park was amazing, the gorgeous little towns so picture-perfect and the locals all so friendly. We could go on and on (even more so)!!
Miss you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
