Vancouver, British Columbia--Another ferry ride, not as tough as the first one, as the boat was bigger and the drive in and out was easier. Vancouver is a large, cosmopolitan city with many residential skyscrapers downtown and lots of building activity for the 2010 Olympic winter games. We stayed at an RV park just across the Lion’s Gate Bridge, the only park near the city, in West Vancouver. Vancouver is an easy town to drive in; we had dinner in Chinatown and explored Gastown, with a large steam-generated grandfather clock on one corner. We shopped at a wonderful market on Granville Island, where individual vendors sell beautiful produce, bakery items, fresh meats and fish (great local salmon), artisan cheeses, and lots of specialty items. There were vendors of all nationalities and food items from around the ... read more

I went to Canada on 2nd September for a couple of weeks, meeting up with Ryan to do some climbing/drinking/sight-seeing etc etc. I was also over there to see if Vancouver could be a future place to hang my hat... Anyway, there's lots of climbing talk in this entry, so sorry if you don't quite get it, but I know what I'm talking about, so thats all that matters! I've written below what we got up to most days, but thought I'd give a mention now to Big D's in Squamish - absolutely great breakfasts from massive fry-ups to massive fruit bowls to granola and special porridge - me and Ryan stopped eating lunch as we knew we'd get enough here to do us until dinner everyday - and for those who know us, you'll know ... read more

home. tired. left Albufeira yesterday? (hard to tell right now) for Faro on the ol train. Stayed at the Monaco hotel just outside of Faro in Montenegro near the airport. Got up at 7am Portugal time (11pm PST), caught our flight at 11am (3am PST) to Gatwick, did the customs thing, caught a 45 min bus ride to Heathrow, did the security & passport control thing, got delayed an hour and a bit in the plane, on the tarmac at 5pm (9am PST), took a shitty plane ride home for 9.5 hours with an overly large, extremely gassy, rude ol elbowy beyotch beside me (no, not Leah). Had to go through customs with our carpet, paid duty but the customs guy took pity on us and said that the rug was an antique (over 100 years ... read more

Welcome to Canada! Touchdown for me! First time hiting the ground in Canada, it all starts from here! Although it's been a while since i left Vancouver now (it's November now as i write this) i will tell you this much, it's gorgeous! Arriving in the airport and walking down stairs with water flowing underneath is a nice way to arrive to a destination, especially after flying across the pacific ocean 20 hours earlier. Vancouver, where should i start. I stayed at a backpackers that was quite popular, had it's own bar and pool tables and internet room plus of course a kitchen. I met a lot of British people whom a few i was sharing a dorm with. A walk over to Stanley Park and the Skywall is like taking a break from big city ... read more

I am setting off for Amsterdam after that who knows where I'll head! I am totally "planless" and some would even say clueless! I am not even sure I have a map! But no matter, I just hope you can get there from here! I am armed with my brand new fresh B.A. in Philosophy and a back pack that is way too heavy!... read more

This day was cloudy and it sprinkled most of the day, but it wasn't very cold. Not too awful, but after all the blue skies and perfect weather it was sort of a let-down. We got into Vancouver pretty early. I think it was around 8:00 a.m. After we got off the boat, Pam, Mary and I headed directly to Stanley Park to Lynn Canyon Park. We rode with Chris and Kristy since they had rented a car and were going there also. Lynn Canyon Park has a free suspension bridge and really nice hiking trails. The bridge is not as dramatic as the other not-free suspension bridge in Vancouver, but it was neat anyway. And like I said, the park was really nice. Of course, all three of us completely ignored the "canyon" part of ... read more
