Vancouver, well for the past few days it has been really cloudy and drizzeld rain. I guess it reminds us of home a bit! The weather has not put us off though and we have been out and about visiting the sights. On the rare occassions when the Sun comes out its actually quite warm, but this hasn't happened too often. We can't complain about a few days rain in six weeks that would be wrong. We took a ferry across the water to Granville Island where they have a market with fresh food and stalls. We went for a bod abound one of vancouvers many parks and checked out views of the pacific and the harbour. They also have a microbrewery which brews up such things as maple cream ale and honey lager. (Friday) we ... read more

7 more weeks to go before I leave for my dream trip to Thailand and India. I thought I would do a little test blog as I lay here in bed at my new shared place in Port Coquitlam of all places. Moving back to Vancouver from Toronto was a hard move and took some real time to readjust to the same old same old. I began working 3 days after I got here and having stopped for a moment to really breath. Between working, my sister's wedding, family stuff, and prepping for my new business there really hasn't been much time or energy to really concentrate on prepping for my trip except for bits and pieces here and there. I have managed to make some tentative plans to stay at an Aussie dorm hostel for ... read more

Yah I know that this is not the day that we accually returned but for those who are following us from abroad then I figured that I should just type this last blog for this trip. I know that we both want to do more and we will just have to see when that happens. But for now back to the last bit. Our trip to the airport went with out a hitch, we already knew the way back so all we had to do is follow it back. I ended up fixing our black bag that we got in Florence enough so that it lasted all the way home. The check-in couldn't have been easier, we made use of the express check-in and did not stand in line at all. It was so nice! On ... read more

Breakfast was back in the diner from last night, yes really, that good. Travelling ever south we made our way to Seattle by Greyhound bus. What would usually take about 3 1/2 hours took us over 6, as 5 of the passengers were not allowed over the border, it just took immigration a long time to agree that this was the case due to incomplete paperwork, so to let the bus carry on. Eventually in Seattle we made our way to the University District (the only place we found accommodation only had room for 1 night, we were hoping for 3) but Seattle was full for weddings, Seafair (a local air and sea fair), summer and also people coming to the university area to get settled before term started. We needed a beer after the ... read more

Well how you can charge somebody CA$25pp and claim you get a free breakfast when you get offered - pancake mix. Not even sugar or syrup to even help you eat it - or even a mention that you might want to get something. Beats us. Hmmm, I think we need a breather from hostels for a little while...! Anyway... Gemma wanted to see Orcas (killer whales) before we started travelling further south, so today we went on a trip down to the San Juan islands in search of a pod. We were in luck and came across the 'J pod' - who were busy travelling after the salmon that form the bulk of their diet. They are truly amazing creatures up close and they sure know how to impress you with their speed and ... read more

Well how you can charge somebody C$25pp for a bed that is right above a drum and bass nightclub open till 3am, and not tell them, beats us. Despite our no-sleep night we did get out and about and wandered along the waterfront and ventured around the 6 mile track of Stanley park on rollarblades with very little injury. It won't surprise anyone to hear that Gemma took to this more naturally than did Ed. A wonderful way to get to see Vancouver in the warm sunny weather. We also let our imaginations run wild and picked out boats and locations for our new apartment (Stuart, hope you are still keen on going halves on the yacht!). It's just a shame that these things require a job. To round off the great day we watched ... read more

Today we went into the Rockies near Whistler to a smaller peak known fondly as "The Chief". Lisa's friend Michelle expertly drove us along the winding roads to our destination. There is a very vertical hike all the way up to a spectacular view. Steve, Ben, Lisa and Michelle braved the climb all the way to the top and were not dispointed! We got caught in traffic on the way back, and so we stopped to have a little snack and "beverage" on the patio of a really nice restaurant. Another evening of hanging out and eating dinner very late, and we were ready for bed!... read more

Today we went to Stanley Park and the Vancouver aquarium. We had a great time wondering along the seawall and looking at the ocean, Vancouver's shipping business, and these majestic beautiful trees. I really liked the totem poles. We also went to the Vancouver Aquarium which is in Stanley Park. We got to see lots of fish, but I liked the belugas the best. They had a dolphin show which was very educational, and the sea otters were really cute! Poor Karen had to tolerate 4 biologists having a geeky good time (she deserves treats!). ... read more

Hi boys and girls, There hasn't been any big adventures since my last blog. For the past 5 weeks, I've been working as an usher (though Customer Service Rep sounds better on my resume) at Cirque Du Soleil's Varekai. Ari got a job there too in the Food & Beverage dept. He must've made a good impression on his first day that they made him a team leader. This was my first job that doesn't involve me looking at a computer screen all day. The show itself is quite impressive. After watching it 40 plus times, you do get a tad bored at some of the acts and have to entertain yourself by spotting the fuck-ups from the performers, busting people taking photos, dancing to the music, or the occasional flirting with the other ushers. There ... read more

Welcome to our travel blog! Our first stop was in BC with Karen and Ben to visit our friend Lisa who just moved back home. After getting settled, we went and spent the day at White Rock, a coastal city just beside Vancouver. We walked in the ocean and Steve tried out skim boarding. We saw blue herons and a harbour seal! It was a nice relaxing day just catching up with each other.... read more
