I know that probably everyone has seen the pictures and surely some of you have been here, but this is everything I thought it would be and more. Jan, we WILL come here and I promise I'll fly. I've often said that, as much as I like photography, NO photograph can match the awe of seeing places like this with your own eyes. How blown away am I? Just know this, any of you who know me have heard me say that the most beautiful place on earth (that I've seen) is the Road to Hana on Maui, which Jan and I have done 3 times and I'd do again any time, and hopefully will. Well, if I had to pick the one most spectacularly beautiful view, this is it. Perhaps Lake Geneva, Switzerland is on ... read more

Drove for approx 5- 6 hrs from Kelowna to Lake Louise. Stopped by some unknown lakes on the way for toilet break and photo op. So strange, the lake looked like it's semi frozen. The edge is still water while the rest of the lake has a layer of frost on it. Continued on and finally arrived at Lake Louise Town at abt 5pm. Our Ms Never-Get-Lost brought us to the wrong HI Lake Louise, which we panicked a bit. The carpark lots looked packed with a huge layer of snow.. how do we drive in ah? Luckily after asking ard,we finally found the right place. Nice hostel. The gals are pretty impressed by their first hostel experience, esp when we were fortunate to be able to get a 4 bed room to ourselves. Yeh! Drove ... read more

Over the last six months I’ve been lucky enough to see some of the best mountain ranges in the world. The Swiss Alps with their chocolate box pretty villages, the cactus friendly San Bernadino Mountains in California, Whistler in British Colombia and of course, not forgetting the Himalayas in China. The biggest and wildest range of mountains I’ve ever had the privilege to visit. But I’m sure if you took a designer or architect and asked them to build a set of mountains, they would take the form of the Canadian Rockies in Banff National Park, the geometry and design of this range of mountains almost seems man-made with their clean lines and horizontal striations, they have to be the most aesthetically pleasing mountains in the world. Having visited Lake Louise last year for a week’s ... read more

Going to canada and not skiing would be blasphemy so one weekend we packed our gears into the car and took off with Tina and Scott to Banff. They booked into a flash hotel while Nic and I stayed at Ricks. We all went out for a meal, I got served chicken which was red raw, Scott who used to be a chef said I shouldn't eat it, so I asked for them to get me something new. They said it was cooked but would get me something else. I doubt very much they would have eaten it unless they were cavemen of some sort. While I waited for a new meal we all got pretty pissed, (drunk not angry). This was realised when we went home and made some prank calls to a few of ... read more

Hi guys sorry for the lack of updates, life here has been very hectic to say the least! So, first news is that the temp got to -38.4 degrees C this morning, I can tell you that it feels cold. But it does wake you up first thing! It was so cold that my hair froze solid in the 20 secconds it took me to get from my room to the bus. Lake Louise is amazing, I can't belive that i've been here for 6 weeks already. Time is flying by at a rediculous rate. Our flat is now full, and i'm sharing a room with a guy called Gonzalo who is from Peru. He is ok but i think life here is very different to what he is used to, he also doesn't like the ... read more

A quick report as I sit in the car outside the youth hostel in Lake Louise. I'm using their wireless. Very cold but clear here. Was minus 42 yesterday but has warmed up to minus 20 today. The Family are skiing as I type, except Silas who is working. Have some nice picture but will load them next time. The area is strikingly beautiful but as you can imagine the temperatures are an inconvenience. Our cabin at Bakers Creek, about 12 k from here on a very icy road, is very warm and comfortable. I'm off now to pick up and thaw out the mad snow freaks. By the way, I can see why Starbucks failed in Australia. Cat pee might be cheap but no-one really wants to drink it. ... read more

Hi guys, I'm so sorry its taken me so long to write a post!!!!! The internet has been down for the last few days. So i've been in Lake Louise for a week now and have had 6 days work already. The hill looks awsome but there is no snow really at the moment. There is one run which is about 20m wide and that's what were opening with tomorrow. So i'm working in the ski tech shop with 4 other guys. We've been scraping wax off of all the hire skis for the last week, there is about 1200 pairs of skis and about 100 boards so its taking a while. We were playing with the machines too which is loads of fun, think its going to take a while to get the hang of ... read more

We woke up in the morning and packed up our camp after multiple days in the same campground in Jasper NP. We did a canyon hike in Maligne canyone and then drove the entire icefield parkway down into Lake Louise in Banff NP. On the way to Maligne canyon we passed multiple elk and sheep but still no bear sitings (grizzleys or black bears). The rivers are shallow so we were expecting to see bear everywhere... none so far! The canyone hike was along the beautifully blue Maligne river. We started our hike at 5th bridge with the intent to hike up the canyon and then come back to the parking lot via a trail deep in the woods. Right off the bat I had to cross a suspension bridge - Greg had to take a ... read more
