Great Britain, holds the history of once being the most powerful nation in the world. Although this status has long since passed, there are few areas of the country where evidence of this former glory are absent. Relics of an industrial past dot the landscape, and expansive stately homes display the profits reaped both at home and abroad.

Although famed for it's rain, the British climate is temperate, with mild winters and pleasant summers. The British countryside offers a taste of both the quaint and the unkempt, and provides opportunities for various outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing and pot-holing.

Britain's cities are vibrant and exciting, with long and diverse histories of development, historic buildings and stunning modern architecture.

hey hey! So I came here a week before beginning my work, so I had time to settle in, do a few last things and hang out with my friends! we had loads of fun, playing games on the pier, sitting at the beach, having a drink in pubs, shopping, going out, we went to london, wandering in the city, and also chilling girls evenings here at the flat! It was really nice, I had a great time, it felt really like holiday because e had great weather and just enjoying ourselves, and at least now I know the place better, [View Full Entry]

On our last day in London, and in fact our whole trip, I thought I'd show Paige where I used to live in London back at the start of the decade (has it really been that long). We jumped on the tube to Shepard's Bush/Goldhawk Road. It was amazing to see the old stomping ground, it hadn't changed that much in 7 years. I showed her 'The Walkabout' pub, the biggest meat market in London. I didn't go there that much but when I did it was always a fun night. I then showed her my old digs which was a [View Full Entry]

Birmingham to Delhi 30th September Spent the last few days with Karen in Birmingham getting the last few things we need for our trip and catching up with the kids and friends. We decided to take backpacks this time and they were waiting for us when we arrived. On first sight we thought we had messed up and ordered the wrong ones. Far too small..... but having emptied the suitcases we brought from Spain and a filled said backpacks with all our stuff we still have plenty of room. Phew!!!! Still need sunglasses which I will get at the airport or [View Full Entry]

Day ten--St. Andrews, Kingsbarns Woke up early. Walked a mile to get our first view at the 13 mile trail we'd be conquering that day...the Fife Coastal path. Check out photos of the Fife Coastal Path: http://sugarmountain.vox.com/library/post/vacation--day-ten.html The hike started above the beach and would take us right next to one of St. Andrews many golf courses. It was a beautiful day for a hike...the ocean looked amazing....everything was blooming....it was a hikers dream! The wide-open-space was incredibly comforting.....the land seemed so....fresh.... St Pauls, with tourists.
St Pauls, with tourists.
London is a fast moving place. People from all over the world come here for a slice of this ancient place. They become part of it and then move on. The city stands and lets the world swim past, like... [more]
A journey of a thousand miles starts with one footstep? Wrong! The journey starts long before the plane taxis down the runway with its doors crossed-checked and ready for take off. Long before the bag is packed, unpacked and repacked lighter. Long before the credit card details are carefully typed into a flimsy website promising a flight cheaper than anyone else. Long before maps are poured over, train times figured out or photos of palm trees and blue skies are longed after. Its starts with a plop of rain on ones head. A squeeze of a body in an already over-packed [View Full Entry]

Day eleven--St. Andrews to England Our friends happened to be driving down to England today too so they rented a car and we all drove down to another friends house in England together. The drive was long (but then again, we'd kind of gotten used to long drives on this trip) but we eventually made it to Leo's house near Cambridge. Took absolutely no pictures today. Wierd. Turned in early as tomorrow we'd head down to London and catch our flight back to the U.S. Day twelve--London to New Jersey to Virginia Woke to the crowing of a rooster who did [View Full Entry]

So I've only completed two days of classes here at the University of Sunderland and as such my general feeling for the place may be a bit premature and skewed toward the negative side of things, but I figured it'd be best to give as appropriate an account of the school as I could based on my initial perceptions of things. The Campus Two campuses, really, one at the center of the city and one along the coast of the Wear River. It's about a 20 minute walk to the City Campus from my off-site apartments and another 20 minutes from [View Full Entry]

So....I'm trying in vain to upload photos quickly...it's not working. To give you an idea, this entry has 16 photos, and it's taken me AN HOUR to get them uploaded at an internet cafe, because nowhere will let me download the software to make the process faster. To say that I'm frustrated is an understatement. More to follow, when I have had less coffee, more sleep, and no more fever. [View Full Entry]

3 days in London. Went there for a short trip before i set off for rome. ON the first day, we literally walked everywhere and we got all the tourist attractions is. The usual suspects, park lane, buckingham palace, the big wheel thing, houses of parliament, big ben etc. I would definetely reccomend walking on your first day and getting it all in. We ended the night with a pub crawl in soho which i would recommend. Go to all the bars...if thats feasible as theres so many, great buzz from the area tho. 2nd day we took advantage of the [View Full Entry]
