Great Britain, holds the history of once being the most powerful nation in the world. Although this status has long since passed, there are few areas of the country where evidence of this former glory are absent. Relics of an industrial past dot the landscape, and expansive stately homes display the profits reaped both at home and abroad.

Although famed for it's rain, the British climate is temperate, with mild winters and pleasant summers. The British countryside offers a taste of both the quaint and the unkempt, and provides opportunities for various outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing and pot-holing.

Britain's cities are vibrant and exciting, with long and diverse histories of development, historic buildings and stunning modern architecture.

We feel like we are talking to our selves over here ahahah! Today was our big day on the big city, WOW IT'S BIG. This past weekend, I went to Canterbury with Karen and one of her friends from school, Lora. None of had ever been, so we were all looking forward to the trip. They took the bus from Oxford on Saturday morning to come to my place. I was very thankful since I had returned from Romania the day before and didn't feel like getting up really early. We then headed out and had a nice drive. The traffic wasn't too bad. This was an interesting experience for me since I had not done any research before leaving. The girls planned everything, including [View Full Entry]

This was a very pleasant walk, City of London to City of Westminster. Most of it lay south of the river, through areas I hadn't visited before. I arrived at Bank Station at about half past twelve in the afternoon and because of visiting museums and churches along the way it was quite dark before I reached Westminster. Unfortunately I hadn't taken my camera with me so I had to use my iPhone. And even more unfortunately, I took most of the pictures using the Camera Plus app, without realising that I had to save them. So out of the many [View Full Entry]

I missed the shot I wanted. Australians are really odd people, mate. You see, I unknowingly attempted to order some food at an Aussie bar (They have quite a few throughout Europe, by the way), and when no one came to help me for several minutes, I got up and went to the bathroom. Now, as stimulating as that seems, it’s not half as stimulating as INFLATABLE SHEEP DOLLS, which were all SOLD OUT in the men’s room. I can’t imagine what’s funnier - the fact that they sell inflatable sheep at Aussie bars - or the fact that they’re all [View Full Entry]

Dear family and friends, I spent last weekend in London visiting 4 friends of mine that I hadn't seen in a long time and had an absolute blast! It was so special to be able to spend time with all of them and explore the city for the first time. The budget airline company Ryanair has flights to London that leave some of the small airports in northern Spain so I was able to fly to the London Stansted airport from Valladolid and arrive in London on Friday afternoon, Nov. 13th, fairly easily. On Friday night I met up with my [View Full Entry]

Wednesday 25.11.2009 Day 42 Carmarthen After a great home cooked bfast we down loaded our pic’s and updated our blog while doing this we saw a squirrel on the fence outside our lodge. We went and explored Carmarthen, which is the oldest town in Wales - the Romans established a walled town here in 43 AD. Before that it was a Celtic tribal capital. The area is also said to the birth place of the wizard Merlin and nearby Llyn y Fan the home of the Lady of the Lake. It was also the site of the first Welsh Assembly [View Full Entry]

So I've just about finished packing and I'm actually amazed that everything fitted in, especially since I am notoriously crap at packing! Everything is feeling very real now, and I'm feeling a weird mix of excitement and anxiety. I've said goodbye to my grandma and aunt today, and it's just hit me how much I'm going to miss everyone (although on the bright side everyone's been very generous with the leaving presents, I think people have been competing for being remembered the most!). I'm leaving Cheltenham in just over 2 hours, so I'll be arriving at Heathrow in time to settle [View Full Entry]
